Rex interrogated Mayla, discovering the limits of his Absolute Anger Effect and learning about a planned attack by High Lord Ursa against High Lord Rashal. To ensure Mayla's cooperation, Rex forced Farhan to kill one of their own comrades, breaking Farhan completely and eliciting the information Rex needed.

A mole exists near High Lord Rashal.

Someone high up who could gain access to the information around Rex.

During his first encounter with High Lord Rashal, there were a lot of people who saw him in passing, but most of them were busy with their work. Only a few actually saw him and noticed that Vadyn was the one escorting him to meet with High Lord Rashal.

It was even less who knew where he lived.

Rex’s penthouse was near the central point of Larta City, and although the neighbourhood was crowded with people, the spies were there to keep a lookout on him. People who most certainly had already been vetted properly by High Lord Rashal.

And they were alert.

Even Rex needed help in order to avoid the spies.

So, the thought of a passerby marking his penthouse is unlikely.

Not to mention, Rex rarely stepped out of the penthouse. If he did step out—he was extremely alert and is usually in hiding. Due to those reasons, the mole must be someone near the upper chain of command who could ask around without being suspected.

Rex shook his head, deciding that he would report this to High Lord Rashal later.

"One more question."

He looked down at Mayla in her pathetic state.

Blood was still pouring out of her mouth and wetting her lips, which were already dyed red.

She was a far cry from how she looked earlier. No longer confident. No longer regal.

"Anything..." She answered breathlessly—already surrendering to the moment. The willpower to resist that she had earlier was no longer there. "Just ask anything you want, and I’ll answer it. Even if you’ve a hundred more questions, I’ll answer it."

"That’s what I like to hear," Rex smirked and caressed her head with his bloodied hands. "Tell me the person who sent you here. High Lord Ursa made the decision, but someone else must’ve given you the mission. Is it a High Millinar?"

"High Millinar Lagneas... He’s the person in charge."

"Okay."

Of course, Rex wanted to see if he could find out more from High Millinar Lagneas.

As a person with a higher position, he must know more about High Lord Ursa’s plan.

Even though it was most likely to vote to remove High Lord Rashal, he needed to know the details. Guessing wasn’t enough. He needed names—which High Lords were going to be courted, which ones were wavering, which ones were completely ignored.

Knowing the answers to those questions is crucial, as without them, the situation would already be lost.

High Lord Rashal was probably searching for the answer to these questions, too.

But since Rex promised to treat this as his own problem, he would also try to find it out himself.

Rex reached his hand towards Mayla.

For a second, Mayla stared at his open hand and then realized what he was asking for.

She shoved her hand through a small portal leading to another pocket dimension, one that she personally owned, which was the place where she stored the totem, which she had used earlier. From it, she took out a stone seal carved with a deep flower mark.

It was the stone seal that contained this pocket dimension.

Lended to them in order to isolate Rex and kill him here.

In order for them to leave this pocket dimension, one would need the item that Mayla handed easily.

Not that she had a choice.

"Are your comrades’ lives that important to you? For you to hand this over so easily."

"Y-Yes... Anything is better than their deaths."

"Are you trying to make me feel bad doing this?"

"Doing what?"

Mayla lifted her head weakly, her vision swimming from exhaustion—and blood loss. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to close her eyes. But she could not. Not when her friends’ lives were on the line. Rex’s face was now a blur, but his crimson eyes cut through the haze like knives.

She saw something in them.

Malice.

A glint that was the last thing she wanted to see.

Adrenaline rushed back, and for a second, Rex’s face became clear.

Mayla saw the devious smile curling on his lips, and the way he tilted his head seemed to be intentional.

Her heart stuttered in her chest.

"This." Rex shifted his gaze to Farhan. "Go ahead and kill them all. Leave none of them alive."

"Eh...?" Mayla blinked her eyes a couple of times.

Her mind was still processing what Rex said.

Seconds later, Mayla snapped from her daze as Farhan’s anguished cry tore through the air. Like earlier, his bare hands moved with savage repetition—severing each of his friends’ heads by pulling on them— exactly as he had the first Awakened Demigod.

His mind had barely begun to recover from that initial kill.

And now, fresh ones piled upon it, threatening to shatter him entirely.

"N-No... No!" Mayla looked at the horror—looked at how Farhan decapitated every single one of her friends without hesitation. Her eyes snapped back to Rex, "You said you are going to spare them! You promised you wouldn’t touch them if I answered all of your questions with the truth!!"

"I lied." Rex crossed his arms nonchalantly. "Why would I do that? Why would I spare them?"

Mayla’s heart dropped to her stomach, and her breath was caught in her throat.

She thought that there would be honour.

Even though they came here to assassinate Rex, she thought he could pardon it since he was never in real danger from the start. That was already proven—by how he easily avoided the totem’s power, which contained a fraction of a God’s might.

Rex is on top of the situation from the start.

So, he shouldn’t be this spiteful.

He should be able to pardon this as he seemed to enjoy the battle.

But that was all inside Mayla’s mind.

Seeing that Farhan was already at the third Awakened Demigod, three more to go, Mayla’s gaze snapped to Davina and Lilliana. She crawled towards them, "Please! Say something! Help me convince him that it didn’t need to end like this!

"I’ll do anything! Anything!"

Her voice broke mid-sentence, and her veins bulged in her neck from how desperate she was.

Regardless, her situation didn’t move Davina and Lilliana at all.

As the daughters of a Duke, they had seen a situation like this countless times. People begging for their mercy are background noise for them. Not to mention, these Awakened Demigods tried to kill Rex. Had Rex spared these fools, they would find a way to kill them regardless.

Maybe telling Rex to let them stay in the pocket dimension, as the scenery was pretty.

Or perhaps making an excuse to probe them even further.

Either way, Davina and Lilliana would make sure that these Awakened Demigods would cease to exist.

Finding a colder response from the sisters, Mayla went back to Rex again.

Rex was smirking, and his eyes were glued to the gory scene; that meant he felt something as he watched Farhan butcher his own friends. Probably savage pleasure, dark and indulgent, but it was still far better than Davina and Lilliana.

Begging the sisters is far more ineffective than begging Rex.

"You can kill me! Instead of them, kill me!" Mayla clung to his leg again, determined to persuade Rex to spare the others. But she saw no chance in his face, "You have friends, right? You have a family, I’m sure. You must know how painful it was to lose someone you cared for. Don’t do this."

"I was like you up until recently," Rex suddenly said without looking.

His glowing crimson eyes remained fixed ahead, watching the horror unfold like it was a show.

"I always begged the universe that anyone with a grudge against me would come for me and me alone. Leave the people around me untouched, as my decision was mine. Aim straight at my heart. And I even left their loved ones alone." A sigh escaped him as he shook his head slowly. "But the world does not work that way. People only care about themselves. If hurting those close to me brings them a step closer to killing me, they’ll do it without a second thought."

He looked down and met her eyes, "If everyone else operates like that, why should I be any different?"

For a good moment, Rex waited for her to answer his question.

Even as the cries from Farhan grew louder, their gazes remained connected.

Mayla has no answer to that, as expected.

"Actions and consequences, I guess." Rex shrugged. "Nothing you say will make me spare them."

In the next minute, Farhan decapitated each of the Awakened Demigods.

And throughout the entire process, Mayla was still on her knees and her head hung low. She never once lifted her head, no matter how painful Farhan’s scream became. Since nothing she does would change the outcome, there’s no point in trying anymore.

Once the Awakened Demigods were slaughtered, Davina approached from the side.

She placed a hand on Rex’s shoulder and tiptoed a little to whisper something in his ear.

Due to the anger from earlier, his body swelled a bit taller.

It was the reason why she needed to tiptoe to reach his ear.

Rex nodded his head at what she said and then looked down at Mayla again.

"It’s over," He said. "You can look up now."

"..."

"Are you afraid to see their corpses?"

Rex waved his hand, letting the System scan the corpses before storing them in the inventory.

"There, I cleaned it up."

"..."

"Still sulking? I think you forgot something."

Mayla’s body twitched as she finally lifted her gaze slowly, exposing her blank stare.

Despair had already gotten to her.

And the only reason she still responded was because of the small trace of hope inside of her.

Rex raised his arm and pointed at something to the side.

She followed his arm and saw another figure in the distance, weeping in anguish. Farhan was still there, simmering in what he had done, staring at his hands, which were now stained in the blood of his friends. No longer the leader he once was.

Seeing him return something to Mayla’s eyes, Rex smiled at the sight.

"There’s still one more. Farhan is still alive. Aren’t you going to fight for him?"

"Fight for him...?"

Rex lowered himself into a squat—bringing his eyes level with hers. He reached out and drew his thumb slowly across her lips, wiping the blood away. Then his fingers moved to her hair, gently smoothing the tangled strands into place.

It was a quiet, almost tender gesture—designed to give her back a shred of dignity.

Giving her a fleeting semblance of control.

He then smiled, "I’ll spare him as long as you do something for me."

"Do something?" Mayla’s eyes flashed with hope, but it lasted only a second. "How can I trust you?"

A chuckle escaped from Rex’s lips when he heard her question.

Considering that he lied and killed the other Awakened Demigods regardless, there’s no reason for her to trust him at all. Doing so would only open up her heart to be crushed again. But at this moment, she should understand her situation.

"You’re smarter than that, Mayla. Had that not been the case, you wouldn’t be a part of a kill squad that was sent to take out someone like me. Think again," Rex said, and then looked at Farhan again. "If you don’t do something for me, then he’s dead for certain. But if you do something for me, there’s a chance he will survive.

"After all, who knows? Maybe I’m feeling kind later."

Rex slowly looked her in the eyes again.

He could see her slowly realizing the situation she was in.

"What I’m saying is—even if I can’t be trusted to keep my promise, what choice do you have? For poor Farhan over there, you can only accept this proposition."
