Lucas could easily read Bradley's mind.
Thank you readers!
He was well aware that scions from prestigious lineages like Bradley had always enjoyed smooth sailing without facing any real hardships. Striking him was an unforgivable insult in Bradley's eyes, one he would never overlook.
His plea to drop the issue upon release was merely a desperate bid for leniency.
Should Lucas actually release him without repercussions, Bradley would harbor this disgrace and swiftly summon reinforcements from the Hills to retaliate.
As a branch of the royal family, the Hills boasted centuries of legacy, brimming with formidable experts and devoted suicide warriors. While Lucas held no fear for them, his loved ones and loyal followers couldn't endure relentless attacks and ambushes.
Similar to the Hamiltons' past schemes, these clans employed ruthless tactics. They dispatched suicide warriors after Lucas and even disguised abductions of Cheyenne as business deals to coerce him. Loyal families like the Parkers, Hales, and Howards faced hits from Hamilton assassins too.
In those crises, Lucas exerted every effort to rescue Cheyenne swiftly. Jensen's aim was just to send a chilling warning to Lucas and his allies, not to kill them outright. Had he intended murder, Lucas's circle would have faced devastating losses, possibly costing him his dearest ones.
One such ordeal was more than enough. Lucas refused to let it recur!
Therefore, killing Bradley was off the table, yet letting him walk free unscathed was equally impossible!
Grabbing Bradley by the hair, Lucas tilted his head up and locked eyes with him. “True, I have no desire to kill. But that's not due to fear of touching you—it's to avoid drawing swarms of pesky flies my way. Get my drift?”
Clenching his teeth, Bradley replied, “I… I get it! Just release me, and I swear I won’t hold it against you. I’ll act like you never existed!”
“That won’t cut it,” Lucas denied, shaking his head. “You wouldn’t trust mere words yourself. Why should I?”
Bradley stiffened, his face turning rigid. Yet he recognized the validity in Lucas's words. In his shoes, he'd dismiss such promises as hot air.
Gritting his teeth, he demanded, “Fine, what then? I… I’ll draft a formal pledge ensuring the Hills never target you again!”
“Haha!” Lucas chuckled mockingly. “Mr. Hills, do you take me for a fool? What good is a written guarantee? It's worthless paper! You'd likely deny it first, let alone your family.”
Exposed yet again, Bradley's face drained of color as he probed, “So… what do you demand? How can I earn your trust?”
“Here’s the deal: swallow this, and you’re free.” From his pocket, Lucas produced a grape-sized dark green pill and held it before Bradley.
“What… what’s that?” Bradley stared at the ominous pill in confusion, his gut screaming danger, voice quivering faintly.
Were Jensen and his son there, they’d instantly identify it as the toxin Lucas had forced upon them!
Lucas revealed straightforwardly, “It’s poison, naturally. No effects right away after ingestion. But in two months, it’ll erupt, killing you in under ten minutes. No doctor on earth could save you then!
“Your sole relief is begging me for the antidote beforehand. Meaning, every two months, you report to me. Skip it, and death is certain.”
Bradley paled in terror, eyeing the sinister green pill. “Lucas Gray, you… you created this vile stuff! You plan to poison me!
Shock and fury overwhelmed Bradley. But a sudden realization hit, and he blurted, “Wait, no—this has to be bogus! No such poison exists! You’re fabricating lies to trick me. Lucas Gray, you’re utterly vile and low! I refuse to buy your rubbish!”
Lucas sneered. “Real or fake, scare tactic or not—you’ll find out by testing it.
“Still, Mr. Hills, your status is lofty, but one life is all you have. Wrong bet, and it’s over! Weigh your choices carefully!”
With that said, Lucas shoved the dark green pill straight into Bradley’s mouth and smacked his back hard. Bradley’s throat twitched against his will, forcing him to swallow the pill down.
Instantly, a wave of sheer terror washed over Bradley. The moment Lucas loosened his hold, Bradley erupted into violent coughs, clutching his throat desperately. He jammed his fingers deep into his mouth, frantically trying to claw the pill back out.
Regrettably, the dark green pill had already glided down his esophagus, dissolving into an icy liquid. It surged into his stomach before swiftly permeating every part of his body. There was no way to retrieve it anymore.
Bradley’s face drained to a ghostly pallor, tears still streaking from the corners of his eyes after all the coughing and gagging. He fixed Lucas with a savage glare. “Lucas Gray, you… you actually fed me poison. I will never… will never…!”
He had intended to vow he’d never let Lucas go. But realizing the poison he’d ingested could be authentic, he knew not only could he abandon any thoughts of revenge against Lucas moving forward, but his life itself—and every move he made—would fall under Lucas’s dominion. Should he provoke Lucas without securing an antidote, death would surely follow!
As a result, Bradley swallowed the rest of his threat unspoken.
Lucas could easily read Bradley’s mind. A smug smile curved the edges of his lips. “Very good. It looks like you’re not a fool. In that case, I’m sure you already know what you should and shouldn’t do in the future, right?
“Don’t worry. I’m not interested in the Hills, and I’ve never thought of controlling the Hills by controlling you. On the contrary, if you want to fight for the position of helmsman of the Hills in the future, I might be able to help you and fulfill your wish.
“However, I don’t want anyone from the Hills to harass me and disturb my peace. Do you understand?”
Bradley fully comprehended Lucas’s warning. He was demanding no more trouble from him personally and no interference from any Hills members either.
Otherwise, Lucas would simply let him perish!
