Chai Qin and Yang Xiong returned from investigating the Shen Family, bringing evidence of their schemes. Yang Ruxin devised a plan to strategically release the evidence, first to the Crown Prince to incite suspicion, and then more fully to ensure their downfall. Meanwhile, Luo Qiaoqiao married Ma Laiwang, with a dowry provided by Yang Ruxin.

Yang Ruxin didn’t pry too deeply into Ma Dishi’s personal matters, recognizing that Ma Laiwang's elder deserved a degree of respect and that as an outsider, intervention wasn't her place. She operated under the belief that as long as the couple maintained a good relationship, any obstacles could be surmounted.

More importantly, she had full confidence in Luo Qiaoqiao's resilience, certain she wouldn't be easily swayed by the whims of a mother-in-law.

However, Erni, filled with a burgeoning curiosity, ventured to inquire discreetly.

"She's just a bit prone to laziness, but I've found a method that seems to be working. Things have improved considerably these past few days," Luo Qiaoqiao responded with a lighthearted chuckle.

"And what method is that?"

"I prepare delicious meals, but the condition for eating them is washing their hands and face thoroughly. If there's any sign of dirt, they don't get any. Hehe, she's not merely lazy; she's far greedier for food."

Erni offered her a gesture of approval with a thumbs-up.

Time continued its steady march forward.

"It's only May, and the heat is already quite intense," Yang Ruxin stated, stirring from her afternoon nap, driven by the oppressive warmth.

"Madam is expecting, so we cannot use ice," Chai Qin stated, presenting a damp cloth. "Let's begin by wiping your face."

"There's prediction of heavy rain today; this kind of heat is highly unusual," Chun Hua remarked as she entered, carrying a jug of warm milk.

Yang Ruxin nodded in agreement, sensing the unusual stuffiness in the air. "Quickly arrange for someone to fetch the children from school. If the rain starts, the journey will become much more difficult."

Even as she spoke, the sounds of laughter and chatter drifted in from outside – the children were returning.

Yang Ruxin rose and went to meet them.

"Big sister, Master Chu predicted heavy rain today, so school let out early," Sini announced, hurrying over. "Do you think Master was correct?"

Yang Ruxin nodded. "Master Chu is exceptionally capable."

Just as she finished speaking, a rumble of thunder echoed through the sky, followed by a brilliant flash of lightning. The sky abruptly darkened, and within moments, a torrential downpour commenced.

It was not until after the evening meal that the intensity of the rain began to subside.

Yang Ruxin, having finished her meal, would typically take a couple of strolls around the yard. Denied that option due to the weather, she instead walked back and forth along the covered corridor. However, upon reaching the outer courtyard, she abruptly halted.

"Madam, is something wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Chai Qin, ever vigilant by Yang Ruxin's side, inquired.

Yang Ruxin shook her head, took a deep breath, and then reached out to accept the umbrella from Chun Hua. "Wait here. Chai Qin, come with me; let's investigate."

The courtyard gate, which had been securely closed, creaked open. Yang Ruxin stepped outside and moved towards a nearby tree, where she spotted a figure lying beneath its branches.

"Madam, it's Young Master Yong Cang," Gu Cheng emerged from the shadows, having already inspected the person. "He appears to be injured."

"Yong Cang?" Yang Ruxin’s brow furrowed, and she hurried closer. It was indeed Yong Cang. "Let's bring him inside at once."

Within the side room of the rear courtyard.

Yang Ruxin began her examination of Yong Cang's injuries. Multiple sword wounds marked his body, the most severe being a deep stab wound to his chest. While it had grazed slightly past the vital organs, the injury was grave and could prove fatal if not treated promptly.

"It's fortunate I possess such a keen sense of smell," Yang Ruxin murmured, sighing. "If I hadn’t detected that faint scent of blood amidst the rain, you might have perished out there."

Regrettably, Yong Cang remained unconscious, entirely oblivious to her worried words.

"Miao Jian, this will be a challenging night for you," Yang Ruxin stated as she skillfully treated and bandaged his wounds. "He may develop a fever, so be sure to keep him cool."

"Rest assured, Madam," Miao Jian replied with a nod.

Only then did Yang Ruxin return to her chamber, her mind a whirlwind of unanswered questions. Why had Yong Cang appeared there, so grievously wounded, and what had become of his two attendants? Unable to resolve these mysteries, she resolved to set aside her thoughts and await his awakening the following day.
