Strongest Necromancer System Chapter 803: You Want A Fight?
Previously on Strongest Necromancer System...
The suffocating atmosphere in the chamber intensified as Diane unleashed her potent power, a palpable force pressing down on all present. Hidden in the periphery, Faceless Keepers observed silently, poised to intervene if necessary. However, before any action could be taken, Jason's voice sliced through the heavy silence of the hall.
"You desire a confrontation?"
Every head in the room swiveled towards Jason as he slowly rose from his seat. The palpable tension, amplified by Diane's overwhelming aura, seemed to have no effect on him whatsoever. Jason turned his gaze directly to Diane and uttered a single, decisive word.
"Alright."
BOOM!
This time, it was Jason who unleashed his own power, causing everyone in the room to recoil. A suffocating, all-encompassing energy descended upon them, eclipsing Diane's earlier display. While Diane's power was formidable, this was something far beyond mere strength; it felt like an embodiment of death itself, reaching out to ensnare their very souls in its abyssal darkness! Jason's power effortlessly nullified Diane's energy as if it were non-existent, easily permeating the entire chamber. Even the two other candidates, who had remained impassive until this point, looked up at Jason in sheer astonishment, stunned by the magnitude of the power he was radiating. The sheer volume of energy contained within him was utterly inconceivable!
Unexpectedly, it was Diane who reacted most profoundly. The instant she felt Jason's power, she perceived more than just an overwhelming presence of death. Jason offered her a fleeting glimpse into the formidable army he commanded – a terrifying vision of countless creatures focused solely on her, their animosity palpable, eager to rend her to pieces! In that moment, no one present could have avoided a jolt of profound shock at such a horrifying spectacle. Before Diane could even process the revelation, she took a single, involuntary step back.
"That is sufficient."
C'thlyanu's voice unexpectedly fractured the charged silence, drawing everyone's attention back to him. Though the purple mist lacked a face, Jason could vividly picture C'thlyanu's stern disapproval as he regarded both of them.
"This is hardly the appropriate time for such displays, nor did we convene here to parade our capabilities. Cease your energy projections and let us refocus on the task at hand. This is your final admonition."
C'thlyanu's tone was stern, and in response, both candidates finally withdrew their energies, allowing the room to gradually return to its previous state of tranquility. Despite the conflict being averted, every individual present had witnessed the unfolding events. Diane's power was undeniably immense, likely surpassing any other mortal within their Domain, and the council likely placed her within the top 1% of all beings in the sixth domain. Yet, even with such formidable strength, the council members felt how readily Jason neutralized Diane's power with his own. Jason's energy was not only more concentrated but also infinitely more oppressive!
If Diane's influence made the air feel as thin as that at a mountain's summit, making breathing a struggle, then Jason's power evoked the sensation of being submerged at the ocean's deepest point, suffocating under an unimaginable weight! The disparity between their powers was as stark as night and day! However, what truly sealed Diane's fate in this brief confrontation was a detail that would have been insignificant on any other occasion. Despite her bold declaration and haughty demeanor, Jason had somehow compelled Diane to retreat a single step.
Whether this step was born of fear or a tactical maneuver, the council members gave it little consideration. Everyone present understood the stakes of a battle to the death, and they recognized that this single, backward motion by Diane would have signified her demise in a genuine conflict. The two candidates had pitted their energies against each other, and in that fleeting exchange, a clear victor and loser had emerged. While the council could not definitively gauge the candidates' overall strength from this brief clash, the outcome undeniably swayed the opinions of many members. Consequently, a significant number of council members now regarded Jason with heightened interest! Even the two remaining candidates, who had abstained from the contest of power, couldn't suppress their astonishment at the sheer force they had felt emanating from Jason! This was an individual who had surfaced only a few months prior, yet he had already demonstrated the capacity to not only rival but exceed the power of one of their Domain's most formidable members!
From her seat on the council, Hesabeth placed her fan before her mouth, a proud smile gracing her lips as she observed the rapt attention of the other council members. Precisely as it should be. Soon, these insipid fools would finally grasp the magnificence of the man she had chosen! Her gaze drifted to Diane, noting the bewildered fury etched upon the latter's face. Hesabeth surmised that Diane was likely vexed with herself for her involuntary step backward, yet some phenomena defy simple explanation! In that pivotal moment, Diane had been so utterly astounded by what she witnessed that she lost all control of her own body, thereby unintentionally confirming Jason's formidable power to all present!
Despite Jason's display of might, it was still insufficient to bestow upon him the esteemed title of Overlord, and Hesabeth recognized that the subsequent two prerequisites would pose the most significant hurdles! C'thlyanu's voice resonated once more, recapturing the council's collective focus.
"Regarding the criteria of power, I must state that while all potential candidates have demonstrably proven themselves among the most formidable within their respective domains, a clear disparity in strength exists. However, power alone is not the sole determinant for ascension to the position of Overlord. The second crucial factor to be evaluated is the inherent strength of the world from which the candidates originate. Three of the represented worlds currently stand at Rank III in terms of overall power; however, Earth has yet to attain the necessary standing to be classified as a Rank III world."
"Is such a detail truly significant at this juncture? We are all aware that Earth's connection to magic has been severed for an extended period. Has it truly been merely ten solar cycles since its return? It seems excessively demanding to expect them to have already achieved Rank III."
Farlow interjected from the side, his hands pressed together in a steeple, prompting an irritated scoff from Baron Skarr.
"Naturally, you would champion Earth's cause. If we are to adhere to your logic, should we not then conclude that Earth is too nascent to assume the mantle of supreme authority within its sphere? Perhaps granting them additional time to bolster their strength would be more prudent before bestowing any authority."
A ripple of agreement spread among some council members following Baron Skarr's assertion, but surprisingly, T'arigan was the next to voice his opinion.
"You know, I've been keeping a rather close watch on Earth recently, aye? That realm appears to be an excellent prospective trading partner for us dwarves. Their development lately has been at a pace quite unheard of within the Primordial Expanse. It wouldn't be entirely unfounded to believe they could achieve Rank III in a remarkably short span. Your humans are, after all, quite resourcefully inclined."
