"Now, if we’re going to fight, then let’s fight. But if not, then get out of here. I need to talk to my team."
Malovena was stunned when she heard this, and Malovena turned to look at Valeria in shock! Did Valeria actually join this man’s team instead of her own!?
"So you prefer to be with this man rather than me? Is that it, Valeria?"
Valeria only spared Malovena a short glance before she turned away while sheathing her sword.
"I don’t have to explain anything to you, Malovena. Just leave."
Malovena’s anger was obviously growing, and it looked like she was ready to burst at any moment! Tayrian put his hand on her arm to try and tell her to just let it go, but Malovena shrugged him off so hard that he almost fell to the ground!
"Get the fuck off me! And you... this isn’t the last you’ll hear from me. No one poaches my targets and gets away with it."
Malovena leaned down and seethed in Jason’s face as she said this, and Jason just watched calmly as she turned away angrily and stormed off! Once she left, Jason turned to the rest of the Vipers who were standing at the side and gave them a hard look! The dark elf, Tayrian raised his hands in surrender before he turned and left with the rest of his group! Tayrian knew that Malovena was far stronger than him, so if Malovena was wary about getting into a fight with this mysterious man, then there was no way Tayrian would survive a battle against him!
Jason clicked his tongue once the mercenaries were all gone and he walked over to join Stella and Valeria at the table. Stella helped Jason to pull out his chair, and Jason fell into his seat and gave Valeria a curious look.
"Were those friends of yours?"
Valeria scowled in annoyance before shaking her head and saying that they weren’t.
"I used to work with them, that’s all."
Jason hummed when Valeria said this, and Jason could tell that Valeria didn’t want to talk about it anymore, so Jason turned to Stella as Stella asked.
"Did you finish visiting Madam Riyala and Madam Hesabeth, Master?"
Jason nodded.
"Yeah, I did. Riyala told me she was pregnant."
"Huh?"
Valeria turned to Jason in shock and Stella’s eyes widened before she beamed happily!
"Oh, praise the gods! That’s wonderful news! Congratulations, master!"
Stella was so happy that it looked like she was about to bounce off her chair, and Jason chuckled as he told her to calm down. Jason thanked Stella, and he looked over at Valeria when he saw the curious look on her face.
"Are you alright?"
Jason asked this with a raised brow, and Valeria jolted out of her thoughts before she gave Jason a small nod.
"Yes, I’m fine. Congratulations on the baby. I’m sure you must be very happy."
Jason shrugged slightly, but even though his face was covered by the hood, it was still obvious to both women that he was smiling like a crazy person! Valeria turned away and glanced at the crowd of people for a moment and inside of her, there was a feeling of slight jealousy that threatened to rise! Although Valeria had dedicated her life to finding and ending Gregory for what he did to her mother, Valeria knew that there were many other things that she wanted to do with her life, and one of those things was having a family!
Valeria wanted to find a man she could fall in love with and have children of her own! But with how her life was now, Valeria couldn’t even imagine falling in love, or even think of bringing children into the world! Valeria’s life was far too hectic for those things! So Valeria felt a little jealous that although Jason’s life was also as hectic as her own, Jason was capable of having his family at the same time!
There had been a few moments when Valeria thought she had fallen in love, and she had a few relationships in the past, but none of them had lasted long because the man always wanted her to settle down with him, and Valeria refused to give up on her mission. Maybe if Valeria was with someone like Jason, who was on the same mission as her, then she could be happy...
Valeria immediately shook her head and frowned as she got rid of that thought, and Valeria focused on the conversation again as Jason spoke to her.
"How are the preparations for the trip going?"
Valeria nodded and she said that everything was ready! The trip to the Zeroth Domain wasn’t going to be like a normal trip across domains. Most of the worlds that had a direct link from the first domain into the Zeroth domain were guarded by multiple security forces who were there to prevent mercenaries or pirates in the Zeroth domain from entering the first domain. If Jason and the others tried to use one of these worlds, it would alert the security forces to their presence, and there was a chance that the security forces would figure out who Jason was and expose his location to the other Overlords.
So, instead of following one of the normal routes, Valeria was going to be taking Jason and Stella through the hidden pathway that was only accessible to high-ranking mercenaries! Valeria brought out a map from behind her and put it on the table before pointing to a portion at the very edge.
"We are here, in the northern sector of the first domain. From here, we’ll be heading towards the western corridor over here, and then we’ll cross into the world of Nagi’tana here close to the Domain Border. The world is filled with dangerous beasts, but we’re all strong enough to take care of anything that tries to attack us, so we don’t need to worry about that. There’s a valley known as the Divergent Valley Pathway that leads directly towards one of the worlds in the Zeroth Domain. It’s impossible for anyone to cross the Divergent Valley without aid since there is a magic formula that causes confusion layered over it, but there’s a race of Earth fairies that live in those parts, and if we give them some Earth-based magic stones, they’ll help guide us to the other side."
Jason listened to all this attentively, and once Valeria was done, he nodded and stood up.
"Let’s head out then. We need to finish this mission as quickly as possible, so I want to get into the Zeroth Domain before tomorrow."
Both Stella and Valeria agreed to this, and they stood and packed their things before they quickly headed out of the tavern. A few meters away from them, back inside the tavern, the red-skinned mercenary, Malovena, watched the group of three go with a vengeful look in her eyes. It was obvious that this was not the last time they would hear from her!
....
[The World of Nagi’tana]
Nagi’tana was a world filled with hundreds of thousands of different races that coexisted in a perfectly balanced ecosystem. Just like on Earth, there was a dominant race on this world known as the Verag, but unlike humans, the Verag were not very intelligent, and they did not have the ability to communicate or build complex structures. Instead, they had been able to dominate this world using nothing but sheer strength alone! The Verag had taken a large portion of the world as their own, and no matter where you go in this world, you would be able to find smaller settlements of multiple Verag that existed there!
