Jason and Valeria arrive at the Blue Lake Inn with a poisoned Harold. Despite Valeria's and Calypso's healing attempts, the poison proves resistant, worsening with each attempt. Jason realizes they need an antidote before healing can proceed. Suddenly, Jason's phoenix appears, seemingly upset about being forgotten, and approaches Harold's poisoned wound.

"Just watch."

Valeria narrowed her eyes at Jason when she heard this, but she decided to trust him once again, and Valeria watched as the hot aura from the phoenix concentrated itself around Harold’s waist and began to flow into the wound! All of a sudden, Harold’s pained expression began to ease into a calm look, and his shallow, uneven breathing also became more relaxed! The green coloration that was travelling up from his ribs to his neck began to vanish as the poison was neutralized by the aura of the phoenix, and it wasn’t long before the wound began to close up!

In less than a minute, the phoenix had completely erased the wound on Harold’s side, and all that was left behind was smooth, unblemished skin!

’Wow. I need to learn how to do that.’

Jason was actually stunned when he saw how easily the phoenix healed the wound, and Jason made up his mind to learn this as well. Since Jason was the Phoenix’s contractor, Jason should also be able to learn all the skills that the Phoenix had, and all Jason had to do was raise his relationship with the Phoenix. Jason grinned as the large bird flew up to land on his shoulder with a prideful air around it!

<I did good! Master praise me!>

The bird demanded recognition, and Jason grinned as he scratched its feathered belly.

’Great job! I had no idea you could do that! You’re amazing!’

The phoenix preened in joy as it enjoyed the praise from its master, and it wrapped a large wing around Jason’s shoulder before speaking again.

<Master give me name now.>

Jason blinked as he was suddenly reminded that he hadn’t named it yet, and Jason let out a calm sigh! Jason had already thought of multiple names, but none of them seemed to be good enough for the prideful phoenix. What sort of name do you even give to a mythical bird that had perfect offensive, defensive, and support abilities? Jason hummed while looking up at the ceiling, and Jason’s brow furrowed as he suddenly came to a realisation! The phoenix was basically a being that embodied all the traits of the sun, wasn’t it!? What was the name of the sun god from Greek mythology again? Jason had learned about it in a history class a long time ago, and he thought it was really cool. Yes...

"...Helios. Your name will be Helios."

The phoenix went silent, and it seemed to consider that name for a few long seconds before it finally opened its wings and let out a loud ’squack!’ in excitement!

<Master finally gave a proper name! Helios likes it!>

Jason reached over and scratched Helios’ belly once again before Jason turned as Valeria spoke up.

"Is he going to be alright?"

Valeria was looking at Harold’s body with awe in her eyes, and Jason smiled and said that Harold would be just fine. The injury was healed, so they just had to wait for him to wake up! Valeria took in the even breathing and steady pulse that Harold now had, and she felt a wave of gratitude surge through her body at that moment! Valeria knew that she and Harold didn’t always see eye to eye, and there were a lot of times when she would get angry at Harold for always following her around and trying to tell her what to do. But Harold was still her big brother, and Valeria cared about him far more than she would ever admit. If Harold had died here, then Valeria would’ve been completely broken!

Valeria turned to Jason and bowed her head in gratitude for the first time in decades.

"Thank you, Jason. I can never repay you for helping him."

Jason patted Valeria on the shoulder with a smile.

"It’s fine. We’re both family, and he’s my brother too. If we don’t look out for each other, then who will? Come on, let’s get something to eat. I’m sure you’re hungry."

Valeria was about to refuse by saying that she wasn’t hungry at all, but her stomach chose that moment to rumble in a loud, continued growl that echoed through the entire room! Valeria did her best to keep her stoic, emotionless expression in place, but it was impossible to hide the slight dusting of red that came over her cheeks at that moment. Jason just chuckled, and he told Stella to prepare them something heavy! Stella bowed, and she left the room to do as she was told!

Jason and Valeria moved towards the seats close to the window and sat opposite each other while waiting for Stella to come back. As they waited, Jason took the chance to study his sister. Although Valeria had a rough and unapproachable vibe around her, like she was the sort of person who would stab you in the eye just for talking to her the wrong way, there was a youthfulness on her face that made Jason think that she was still very young. If not for the fact that Jason knew Valeria was hundreds of years old, he would’ve thought that she was his younger sister!

Helios came to stand on the table and sat in front of Jason, and Jason calmly pet it while speaking to Valeria.

"Do you know the people who attacked Harold?"

Valeria scowled while leaning back roughly, and she spoke up in annoyance.

"It was two former members of the Old Avaran Religious Order. They used to be responsible for handling the exclusive requests of the royal family, like our personal army of fanatics. But I suppose they had a falling out with our father after the Primordial War. They’ve formed a new group, and they call themselves the King’s Guard now. It’s just a bunch of fools thinking they can claim a throne that isn’t theirs."

Jason’s eyes narrowed once he heard the term ’King’s Guard’ and Jason realised that the people who attacked Harold might be the ones who attacked him on L’horm! Jason asked Valeria to describe what they looked like, and the moment Valeria mentioned that one of them had a missing arm, Jason immediately knew that he was right! It was the same two people who had attacked him back then: Jack the Ripper and his partner Reaynar! But why would they attack Harold? From what Jason learned from Hendrix, Jason knew that the King’s Guard were trying to put Gregory on the throne of Avaran, so the only reason they should be attacking Harold is if Harold also had a claim to the throne.

’Hendrix said that most of our brothers also have a claim to the throne, but they all gave up on it since they had other responsibilities to focus on. Is Harold one of the people that didn’t give up on the throne, or were they attacking him for another reason?’

Jason narrowed his eyes as this thought crossed his mind.

"You’re different from what I expected."

Valeria suddenly spoke up, and Jason turned to her curiously to see her watching him with a frown. Jason asked her what she expected, and Valeria shrugged.

"I don’t know. I suppose I expected a spoiled brat. You’re the youngest son our father has, and you’ve lived through a period that had the least war. Most people with so many benefits tend to end up pompous and spoiled. I was actually ready to attack you and force you to help me if you turned out to be that way, but I suppose I won’t need to do that."

Jason scoffed in amusement.

"Do you really think you can defeat me?"
