"There’s no way!"
Girai suddenly spoke up in shock when the elder finished his announcement! Girai couldn’t believe that this was possible! Jason didn’t look any older than she was! In fact, he might even be younger than her! How was Jason already a Master while she was still an Awakened!?
"Master, this has to be some sort of joke, right? Is one of the elders using an illusion technique to fool us!?"
Girai spoke to her master while looking over at Jason, and Jason raised a brow at the older girl curiously. Girai looked like she was in her mid-twenties, and just from the look on her face, Jason could tell she was a difficult person.
"No, Girai. I can assure you that this is not an illusion or a trick. I was present when Master Jason received his Qi Element, so you must show him the proper respect as your senior."
Girai grit her teeth and turned away in annoyance! Girai had always been the most talented in her class, so the idea that there was someone else out there more talented than her didn’t sit right with her at all! But Girai decided to ignore it! Jason was only one rank above her after all! She just had to work hard until she got to the Master rank as well, and then she would easily surpass him!
"Hey, get the hell down here."
Jason suddenly looked up and spoke in a commanding tone, and many of the students looked up as well as they wondered who Jason was talking to! What they saw next forced some of them to fall back in shock!
SQUACK!
A loud sound echoed through the sky as a crimson bird flew through the air, while leaving behind a trail of fire. The bird descended from above and spread its massive flaming wings before landing on Jason’s outstretched hand! Jason grinned at the massive bird, and the bird gave Jason a dirty look before poking Jason on the head with its beak! Jason just laughed.
"I-Is that a phoenix?"
It was Girai who had spoken in a low, almost inaudible voice. But the silence of the region made her voice echo across the area, and Jason was able to hear it easily. Jason hummed in response, and he scratched the bird’s belly.
"He’s a nice guy, just a little grumpy."
Squack!
<Master always bullying me!>
"No, I’m not. I was just playing with you."
Jason grinned at the massive bird as they got into a conversation, and Jason completely missed the look of shock on the faces of all the students around! They had all heard about the legendary phoenix before! It was impossible for them not to have heard about it! It was one of the five great Mythical beasts, and it was said that getting its approval during your awakening was the same as gaining an automatic ticket to immortality!
How is this possible!? A random man who had never even trained with them came out of nowhere, and now he got the approval of a phoenix! It was already rare enough for someone to gain any Soul Beast at all during their awakening! The odds of gaining the phoenix were one in billions!
Girai could only stare at Jason and the Phoenix with a longing expression on her face! Girai had also been hoping to awaken the fire Element during her awakening, and she hoped that she would gain a powerful beast like the phoenix! So seeing someone younger than her gain all the things she hoped for filled her with an intense surge of jealousy that burned her chest like a physical thing!
The master watched Girai’s expression, and he nodded when he saw that she was starting to see that there was more to the world than what she had accomplished. That was good. Girai had a lot of talent, but her ego was holding her back. Maybe now she could let go of that ego and begin working hard to reach her potential!
The master patted Jason on the shoulder and spoke to the students.
"Master Jason here is the most recent Soul Beast wielder, and he awakened the magnificent Phoenix. I want all of you to remember this moment and hold it dear in your heart. This is the mountain peak that you must strive to reach if you wish to become a respectable member of the Eastern Mountain Sect. Is that understood?"
"Yes, Master!"
The group all responded in unison, and the master nodded before he turned to speak to Jason alone.
"I heard from Ronan that you wish to test the skill of your Soul Beast. My group will enter the forest in a few minutes, and I plan to send them towards the Western region. That’s where the least dangerous beasts reside. You can find your way towards the eastern region where the most dangerous beasts are. You should stick to the outer sections for your training and avoid going too deep. I’m sure your Phoenix should be more than capable of handling itself over there."
Jason thanked the man with a calm nod before he turned to head into the forest. Behind Jason, Girai watched him with a deep frown on her face! Anyone would be able to see how jealous she was at that moment, and deep inside her, Girai couldn’t help but wonder how much work she would have to put in before she became this powerful!

[Eastern Region of the Corrupted Forest]
Jason walked forward while whistling a calm tune, and he enjoyed the scene of the peaceful forest as he passed many trees.
All around him, a deadly, dangerous aura flowed through the forest, and various dangerous creatures lurking in the darkness followed Jason with their gazes! This forest was one of the most dangerous places in the entire world of Diran, and any of the cultivators here would think twice before they dared to enter the deeper sections of the Eastern region, since the beasts would not hesitate to tear anyone apart in seconds!
But right now, all the beasts in this part of the forest were terrified! The beasts stayed hidden behind the shadows of trees and high up in the branches as they watched Jason moving, and even though Jason’s Qi was only on the level of a Master Cultivator, there was a great instinctual terror that warned all of them against daring to show themselves in front of Jason!
These were monsters that could eradicate entire cities and kingdoms from the map, but regardless of how powerful they were, they were still animals that followed their natural instincts, and all their instincts said that Jason was far beyond anything they could handle!
SQUACK!
Up in the sky, the massive phoenix let out a loud cry as it flew over the forest, and Jason heard it speak in a prideful tone!
<Monsters scared! Hehe!>
The phoenix believed that the monsters were afraid of it, and Jason just chuckled as he shook his head and turned his focus towards the Phoenix’s name. Jason had been thinking about what to call his phoenix for hours now, and he still hadn’t been able to come up with anything that they both liked! It was either Jason didn’t like some of them or the phoenix didn’t like others!
’How about Rava? Do you like that name?’
<No!>
The answer was immediate, and Jason hummed.
’Do you like Urias?’
<No! Master has to give a name that’s cool!>
Jason couldn’t help but chuckle at that! Jason didn’t think he would ever hear a bird asking for a cool name!
’If you want something cool, then why don’t you suggest something yourself?’
<No! Master has to choose for me!>
