During an elemental awakening ritual, Jason is bathed in elemental dust as elders chant. To everyone's surprise, fire manifests early, intensifying and changing to a deep crimson. Inside his Soul Core, Jason finds himself shackled by fiery chains, confronting a massive phoenix-like creature made of the same crimson flames. In the real world, the elders witness the extreme manifestation of fire, realizing Jason is undergoing a judgment that could lead to his death if he fails.

"If he fails this judgement, his soul will fracture itself, and he will die. We must pray for his success."

Stella turned towards the elder in shock when she heard him say this! Did he just say her master could die!? They had to get Jason out of this! They couldn’t leave Jason’s life in the hands of some unknown creature that they never even met before! Stella took a step towards the circular platform to see if she could help her master, but a hand landed on her shoulder, and Stella turned to see one of the elders who had been around the platform holding her back! The elder had a hard look on his face, and he shook his head.

"This is his battle to fight. We must have faith in him."

Stella grit her teeth angrily when she heard this, and for a moment, Stella thought about ignoring his warnings, but Stella was smart enough to understand what he meant, and she simply put her hands together and prayed silently that things would work out!

Inside Jason’s Soul Core, Jason was still kneeling in front of the giant beast that had appeared! The Phoenix was a creature born from pure fire! Its crimson body glowed with aggressive flames, and Jason could see fire rising from its body like smoke! Jason had never met this phoenix before, but Jason could tell that this was a creature that went beyond the mortal realm! This was a creature that was closer to the spirit world of Harken than it was to the Primordial Expanse, and its presence here was Jason’s challenge!

The beast walked close to Jason while letting out a dangerous aura, and Jason steadied his breath and looked right in the beast’s eyes as it slowly lowered itself towards him! The beast was large enough to swallow Jason like he was nothing, but Jason didn’t allow that to affect him at all, and he stayed calm as the beast brought its head down all the way to look Jason right in the eye! And then, the beast stared into Jason’s soul and judged his worth!

The judgement of a Soul Beast was one of the most difficult things a cultivator could ever go through! Most cultivators who go through awakenings are only judged by the element that they are compatible with, and that allows them to awaken their Qi element without facing any serious challenges! But once a Soul Beast is mixed into the judgment, things become a lot more complicated! Now, rather than just facing the test of proving your worth to the elements, you also had to prove your worth to the beast that appears before you! And if you fail to impress either the beast or the element, then there is a high chance that you would suffer Qi corruption and likely lose the ability to properly control your Qi ever again!

Most Qi practitioners would be terrified by the mere thought of going through a test like this! But Jason was not an ordinary Qi practitioner! Jason had faced off against beasts and creatures of legend that would give nightmares to lesser men! He had walked in the flames of a volcano, and he tested himself against the lightning of a Primordial Phantasmal Creature!

A Soul Beast wanted to test Jason’s worth and judge him!? Well then, let it try! There is only one way this would end, and Jason refused to lose in a test of worthiness! It was either the beast found him worthy, or Jason found it unworthy!

The staredown between Jason and the beast continued for more than five straight minutes, and Jason stayed perfectly still as the Beast looked right into his soul! Jason showed no fear at all at the sight of the massive creature, and it wasn’t until the Beast was done with its judgment that Jason finally narrowed his eyes in anticipation!

The beast stood back up to its full size and lifted its massive wings before flapping them around to create intense gusts of fire that flew across Jason’s Soul Core! The fires all surged straight towards Jason, and Jason felt his heart rate pick up for just one second as the fire consumed him in its intensity!

Outside the Soul Core, all the elders looked up in shock as the swirling flames began to converge down on Jason like a tornado of fire! The flames attached themselves to Jason’s body, and the Qi Matrices that had been drawn on Jason glowed red as all the flames began flowing into them and entering Jason’s body!

"What does this mean? What does this mean!?"

Stella turned to one of the elders at her side and shook his shoulder while asking him to explain what was going on, but the elder was in too much shock to say anything, and Stella could only watch as Jason finally moved! Jason slowly got up from the ground as the flames began to die down, and the Qi Matrices around his body glowed with pure red light that made him seem like some higher god emerging from a plane beyond the mortal realm!

Jason opened his eyes, and Stella gasped as she saw that his eyes were filled with flames! His very essence had been consumed by the fire, and his Soul had inherited the crimson glow!

The Matrices around Jason’s body increased in brightness, and all the cultivators in the room immediately took a step back and bowed their heads as they saw fire surging out from Jason’s body and converging to form a massive creature right over Jason’s shoulder!

The Phoenix awakened in its splendour and landed on Jason’s shoulder before it lifted its head and released a shrill cry that shook the temple walls!

CAWWWWW~!

Every single cultivator immediately got down to their knees before the great Spirit Beast, and Stella felt her eyes widen in shock as she gazed upon the supernatural image of her master! Stella did not need anyone to tell her what had happened here anymore, and Stella could already feel her heart racing as she came to a realisation! How could she have ever doubted her master’s ability? How could she have ever imagined that this would end any other way?

Jason had been judged by the elements, and he had been judged by a beast from beyond this realm, and none could find any fault within him! Jason had proven his worth, and he was now a true wielder of the element of Fire!
