Strongest Necromancer System Chapter 1017: Council of Elders
Previously on Strongest Necromancer System...
Jason had put Agiel out of his mind all this time, and he convinced himself that he didn’t need to get involved with her anymore. This was the first time that he would be thinking of her in a long time, and it felt like his body was trying to force him to stop this wedding before it would happen.
’This doesn’t concern me, dammit.’
Jason deactivated the Legion skill and straightened up while letting out a calm breath, and he smiled calmly at Stella and told her he was fine when she gave him another worried look! Jason knew that he and Agiel had some sort of connection, but Jason wasn’t going to allow some hidden magical link to dictate what he was meant to do with his life! If Agiel wanted to get married, then she had every right to do just that!
....
[The Great Eastern Hall]
[Meeting Room of the Council of Elders]
The council of Elders of the Eastern Mountain Sect was made up of all the oldest and wisest members of the sect who had attained the highest possible ranks in both cultivation and government! These Elders possessed a deep connection to the world around them, and there was not a single one of them who was below the Transcendent Stage of cultivation!
As the oldest members of the sect, all the men present here had lived through both the Period of Lawlessness as well as the attack on their world by the Primordial Race! They had all faced the great Primordials and lived to tell that tale, so there was no doubt that they deserved every bit of respect from the younger generation!
They all had the typical appearance you would expect from men who had lived for so long! They had long white hair and white beards that trailed down to their chests! Their skin was wrinkled, but their eyes were sharp and precise in a way that only a martial artist could obtain! There were five of them in total, and they all sat in a semicircle on a large stage that overlooked the central area of the Great Eastern Hall.
The Great Eastern Hall itself was a grand spectacle of architecture! The hall was extremely large, with a ceiling that towered high over the heads of anyone who entered! There were galleries attached to the wall on every side, and these were used during great meetings or trials so that the other members of the sect could come and observe. But right now, the galleries were empty, and only the seats of the elders were occupied!
"So, Ronan, you say that this young man is a student of the Great Elder Esdath."
One of the elders, a thin man with a balding head, spoke up while stroking his beard, and the long-haired leader who had guided Jason to the city nodded.
"Yes, elder. He not only wields great power, but he also possesses knowledge that could only be given by Elder Esdath. He knew the pledge as well as the elder’s greatest dreams. I decided it was necessary to bring him before you."
The elders hummed, and another one spoke up. This one was slightly chubby and short, but he had an aura of wisdom around him that made it easy for him to command respect!
"And what did he say he came here for? An awakening?"
Ronan nodded and said that was right, and the elder chuckled.
"He is a brave young man to desire such a thing. Does he know what the awakening entails?"
"I believe Elder Esdath must’ve told him about it. Even if he doesn’t know, he seems adamant about going through with it, so I do not think we can stop him."
Ronan knew that the awakenings were some of the most difficult moments for any cultivator, but from what he had seen in Jason, Ronan was sure that Jason had enough will to handle it! The elder sitting in the middle of the semicircle finally cleared his throat and drew all the attention toward him. This elder had an aura that was far greater than all the others! Even though his hair was white, it was still full, and he had a physique that showed he was still very vibrant for his age! The elder waved towards the door and spoke.
"It appears our guests have arrived. Bring them in."
The massive stone door leading into the Great Hall groaned as it was opened slowly, and Ronan turned around to watch as Jason and Stella were led into the hall. Now that Jason and Stella were dressed in the traditional white robes that all the sect members wore, they looked a lot more like cultivators, and Ronan nodded appreciatively as he gestured for Jason to come up to the stand beside him!
Once Jason stepped forward, Ronan introduced him to the elders.
"Elders, this man is Jason Marc, the student of Elder Esdath and the man who has come to claim his right to awakening."
Ronan moved back slightly to allow Jason to take the main stage, and Jason looked over the group of old men calmly before he said.
"Greetings. It’s an honor to meet you all."
"I know you."
The elder sitting in the middle of the semicircle spoke up all of a sudden, and Jason looked at him with a calm gaze! The elder leaned forward with a smile on his face and said.
"You are the King Slayer. The Overlord Murderer. The Instigator of the Machina Massacre. We might be a secluded world, but we have our ways of getting information as well, and there has been plenty of information about you. You are Lord Jason, Overlord of the Sixth Domain."
Ronan was surprised when he heard this, and he looked at Jason in shock! Ronan knew what an Overlord was! The Overlords were the highest authority in any domain, and their word was always taken as law by the people in that domain! Was Jason really one of the Overlords!? How was that possible!
Ronan hadn’t been able to feel Jason’s mana all this time since Jason was far too powerful, so Ronan believed that Jason was just a mildly powerful cultivator who was trying to improve his strength! Ronan had no idea that Jason’s strength was far greater than everyone in this sect!
"Is there a problem with my title?"
Jason spoke up calmly after the elder was done talking, and the elder chuckled roughly.
"Why would we have a problem with a mere title? In this sect, your title means nothing; all that matters is how powerful your Qi is. We welcome you to the Eastern Mountain Sect, Overlord Jason."
Jason bowed his head slightly in response to the greeting, and another elder spoke up from the side.
"We hear that you are the student of the late Elder Esdath, and you have come for an awakening. Is that true?"
"Yes."
The elder in the center of the room spoke up again.
"But why would you need an awakening? With your title, there is no doubt that you possess great power. Power that might even be on par with the Primordials. Seeking to gain even more power with all this strength is the height of hubris."
"I believe the reasons behind my desires are none of your concern."
Jason’s tone was hard when he said this, and the elder smiled. It was obvious that the elder was trying to get on Jason’s nerves, and the elder wasn’t finished yet.
"Oh, but you have come to us for our help. How can we give our help to someone who will not grant us insight into the reason behind his choices?"
Jason let out a calm breath to relax, and then he gave a simple answer.
"I wish to get stronger."
