The elderly god answered with another spear.
Damon casually stood while the attack struck him point-blank. However, nothing else happened. The golden spear disappeared without a trace.
There had been no collision, no shattered barrier, no burst of power. The weapon had touched Damon’s chest and vanished as though it had never existed.
Damon glanced down at the spot it had struck. Then he looked up with a smile. “Why are you all standing around? Come at me. Come at me with everything you got.” He threw his head back and laughed maniacally.
The Gods swallowed. Two of them took a step back.
Aiden stood frozen in shock. He had been watching Damon throughout the battle. Every attack that landed, every wound that closed, every desperate attempt to reach one of the gods.
When had this changed?
“An illusion,” Aiden said.
The words came out before he had fully considered them. His gaze immediately shifted toward the Demi-God standing behind Damon, the one whose aura kept slipping away from his senses.
“They have an illusionist. Do not trust what you see.”
Damon only chuckled. The other Gods attacked him once again
Golden spears descended alongside streams of white fire. Blades of wind curved around Damon’s sides while lightning struck from above, leaving him nowhere to move without meeting another attack.
However, he didn’t bother moving.
The first spear disappeared against his forehead. White fire washed over his chest and vanished. The wind blades followed, their edges dissolving inches from his skin, and the lightning narrowed into a brilliant thread before sinking into his shoulder.
Damon remained exactly where he was. His laughter grew louder.
The elderly god abruptly raised his staff, halting the next volley. This time, everyone had seen it.
There was no wounded figure concealed beneath an illusion. Their divine senses followed the attacks all the way to Damon, then lost them at the same thin boundary around his body.
Minnahithaya’s whiskers drew back. “His aura,” the enormous eel said.
Aiden had already noticed.
Damon’s aura was growing. The power spilling from him was becoming denser with every attack they sent toward him.
“Stop!” Aiden shouted. “Stop attacking!”
Damon looked almost offended. “Already? You were so fucking enthusiastic a moment ago.”
The goddess extinguished the flames gathering between her fingers. Beside her, the wind god stared at his own hand, then at Damon. “He swallowed it,” he muttered.
The elderly god’s face darkened. “We know he can devour energy.”
“Not like that. These attacks contain our origin dao. How could he possibly survive absorbing something like that?”
Damon laughed. “Since you all are done. Now its my turn.” He cracked his neck and then his figure disappeared. As his maniacal laughter ran loudly, reverberating in the space, he appeared behind the wind god first.
The wind God reacted but it was already too late. He was doused in an overwhelming amount of pressure before a flurry of blood tendrils assaulted him and consumed him.
In just a second, the entirety of his godly existence became nothing as the man was sucked dry from inside out.
His weapon remained suspended in the air for a moment before a thin tendril caught it.
Damon stood where the wind god had been, his eyes half-closed as the stolen power rushed through him. Wind curled around his shoulders, carrying the last scraps of the dead man’s robes. He flexed his fingers. “Much better.”
The goddess in green retreated. She didn’t announce it. While the others stared at the place where their companion had vanished, she quietly reached behind herself and began opening a spatial passage.
Damon turned his head. “Leaving already?”
She thrust her hand into the opening. A crimson strand snapped around her wrist. Her eyes widened as Damon pulled, wrenching her away from the passage before she could get her other arm through. Green fire erupted over her body, racing along the tendril. He dragged her closer anyway.
“Help me!”
The elderly god finally moved. His staff struck the tendril, severing it with a sharp flash. He caught the goddess by her shoulder and flung her behind him, raising his weapon as Damon approached.
For the first time, Damon saw the old man’s face up close. The calm contempt was gone.
“You will go no farther.” The elder said.
Damon glanced at the staff, then at the goddess scrambling away behind its owner. He directly puched the guy. The elderly god met his fist with the shaft of his staff. The collision tore open the space around them, forcing the nearby gods to shield themselves from the resulting fractures.
The staff held. The elderly god did not. He was hurled backward, his hands sliding along the weapon as Damon followed with a second punch.
A silver blade intercepted him.
Damon twisted, letting it pass beneath his arm, and reached for the god holding it. The man immediately abandoned the attack and withdrew, pulling his weapon close before the tendrils emerging from Damon’s fingers could touch it.
Minnahithaya swept his enormous body between Damon and the retreating gods. Lightning crawled across his scales, but he kept it close, reinforcing his flesh as his tail curved forward.
Damon caught the movement and flew upward. The tail passed beneath him, scattering the blood he left behind. Every droplet turned back toward the eel.
Minnahithaya’s scales flashed. Lightning incinerated the blood before it could settle, and his massive head turned to follow Damon.
However, Damon hadn’t left at all. He jumped right back down on top of the eel. The massive currents constantly running on the surface of the gigantic eel even made some Gods wary but Damon licked his lips as he greedily absorbed all of it.
“I have never been a fan of sushi but I have a feeling that you are going to taste absolutely heavenly.”
Minnahithaya answered by twisting his enormous body. Damon flattened himself against the scales as the eel’s tail swept overhead, passing close enough to tear away the blood drifting above him. His fingers dug beneath the edge of a scale, and he pulled.
The silver-blue armor buckled. Lightning erupted through the opening.
Damon laughed as it poured into him, then drove his other hand into the exposed flesh. The eel’s roar reverberated through the void.
Blood tendrils spread from Damon’s fingertips, branching beneath the surrounding scales. Minnahithaya immediately cut off the lightning flowing toward that section of his body, but Damon had already found something better.
Divine blood rushed into his palm. “Oh, that’s fucking good.”
A whisker swept toward him. This whisker had a tremendous amount of power in it and one hit from the whisker was enough to cut a God in half. However, Damon simply caught the damn thing and pulled it out like he was pulling out an ass hair.
The eel screamed. It was divine beast who had ascended to godhood and someone was treating it like a common fish. The beast did not even get a chance to fight back. In a moment, it lost its upperhand and became a meal.
Damon swiftly devoured the whole thing without breaking a sweat. He even let out a loud burp afterwards. All the Gods stared in horror. Aiden’s face paled. One thing was clear to everyone. The creature in front of them was not merely a God, it was an unholy ungodly abomination!
