The racial alliance's agents completed their mission of retrieving new relic users, despite facing resistance from nobles and local guards. After subduing the guards and facing the villagers' resentment, the agents secured a new relic user, completing their objective.

"Are you sure that this is all the villagers that are from this village?"

After a moment of hesitation, the village chief gave a nod to confirm this.

So in the end, I let the village chief go without questioning him.

"What do you think?"

Hearing this question, I shook my head and said with a sigh, "It seems like this is going to be troublesome."

There wasn’t a single second where we believed a single word that the village chief said.

It wasn’t just the way that he hesitated when he said this, it was also the fact that we could see the situation of the village with our own eyes.

Just based on the number of houses that were in the village, one could easily see that there weren’t even half of the villagers that should have been in this village that were in front of us.

It seemed like there was something that had happened that caused half the villagers to disappear, but it wasn’t something that we could figure out that easily. This was a place that we were visiting for the first time and it wasn’t as if we would be here for long.

Still, it wasn’t as if we could just ignore this since this was our mission.

We had come here in search of those that were capable of wielding the divine energy relics and if we couldn’t even see them, then it would be considered a failure.

At the very least, we had to figure out where the rest of the villagers went.

"I’ll go look into it."

I gave a nod in response to this before saying, "I’ll distract whoever comes, so don’t worry about it."

...

"There’s a mine nearby?"

That was the report that came back after our investigation.

It turned out that there was a mine that was quite close to this village, but it wasn’t just close to this village alone. There were several other villages that were in the vicinity of the mine.

During this time, we had also checked out the other villages and found that there were people missing from those villages as well.

Once all of the dots connected, it really wasn’t hard to figure out what the situation was.

It was just that it was even more troublesome to deal with.

"We’ll have to take them all out at once or else we’ll lose valuable evidence."

That was the only plan that we could come up with in the end.

This was the kind of thing where if we took our time, we were the ones that would suffer in the end. After all, they would be able to pull in all kinds of connections and manipulate all kinds of evidence.

So unless everything was collected ahead of time and it was all archived in a way where they wouldn’t be able to manipulate anything, then it would only be troublesome to leave them be.

"It seems like we’ll have to ask for some backup."

This was the only way to make sure that they wouldn’t be able to do anything.

There really was nothing that could be done in the face of overwhelming force.

...

"Who...who are you people?"

The guards that had been assigned to watch over the miners were all shocked and dazed over what had happened.

It only took a few minutes for it to go down and by the time that they reacted, they found that they had been restrained. In fact, they hadn’t even seen a trace of the one that attacked them until they were restrained like this.

The way that they had suddenly appeared was almost as if they had been attacked by ghosts.

But they could see the people in front of them and they could feel them when they were being taken down. So at the very least, they knew that the people in front of them were actual people.

It was just that they couldn’t even begin to imagine where these people came from.

"Tell us what you know and we’ll make sure that you’ll remain safe."

The guards couldn’t help being caught off guard when they heard these words.

At first, it didn’t seem like these words sank in and they didn’t know how to respond.

But in the end, the one that seemed like he was the leader of these guards suddenly said, "Don’t you dare say a single..."

Before he could even finish what he was about to say, his mouth was stuffed shut and he was dragged away.

In the other room, there were screams of pain that rang out and it was clearly the voice of the leader of the guards.

When the other guards heard this, they all crumpled under the pressure.

It wasn’t as if all of them were here willingly, some of them had been forced into this position. So when their lives were at stake, it was unlikely that they would risk their lives for this.

With that, it was easy to get the information that was needed.

"So it was the lord that created this mess and now we’re the ones that have to clean it up."

"Not to mention that it seems to involve far more people than we thought. It should have been a simple clean up and now we have to take care of all these people."

"Well, we would have had to deal with them eventually since their territory is under our supervision as well."

So in the end, there was quite a bit of work that had to be done.

But with the reinforcements from the four empires, it became easy.

With the force of the four empires there, it wasn’t as if these nobles of a much smaller kingdom could do anything.

By the time that it was over, they could only hope for mercy.

Only that didn’t matter to us at all.

"It seems like there were two relic users among all of the people we’ve tested from the villages."
