The protagonist defeated a Roc, noting the unusually high loot drop, which he deduced was due to defeating it before its second phase. He theorized the environment might allow for second phases. He then found another pillar with a hole leading to a large room containing a griffin. Exploiting a loophole, he defeated the griffin without it fighting back. He encountered and defeated other legendary birds like a garuda and a thunder bird, all due to the same loophole, until he met one boss that actually fought him.

"It’s not dead."

I had used the same trick that I normally used and remained outside of the space to shoot these swords out, but it seemed like these swords weren’t able to do anything in the end.

Even though they hit the large mass that was sleeping in the center, even though there was blood that came out, it didn’t seem like it was dying.

In fact, the large mass that was inside of the room was currently being engulfed in flames.

This wasn’t something that I had done, the flames had suddenly appeared after the swords stabbed into the large mass lying there in the middle of this room.

As the flames became stronger and stronger, it seemed to burn away the large bundle that was there. It didn’t seem to have any resistance to the flames that were burning around it with how it quickly turned to ashes.

But even so, the flames didn’t seem to disappear.

At the same time, it seemed like there was some kind of life force that was coming from the center of this ball of flames.

Whatever it was, it was clearly getting stronger as it was being revived even though it looked like it was dying.

The main reason that I knew that it wasn’t dying was because we were in the dungeon. If it had been taken down in one blow, then the body would have exploded into loot that dropped on the ground.

The fact that there were still flames here meant that whatever it was was still alive, or it might even mean that this thing was going into phase two.

Once the flames died down, I knew that it was indeed that this thing had entered phase two.

The flames didn’t completely disappear, but they didn’t burn as brightly as before.

That was because there was this bright red bird that suddenly came out of the pile of ashes that had been created.

When it was this obvious, it was hard to mistake what kind of monster this was.

Though I didn’t really have time to think about it since this bright red bird turned to look at me. Unlike the other monsters that didn’t notice me at all, this bright red bird’s attention was completely on me.

"So the loophole is only good for one attack."

I had figured that this was the case, but that one attack had been so effective each time that it really didn’t seem to matter.

It was different since this bright red bird had the ability to revive itself.

"How many times can it revive itself though?" I couldn’t help wondering as I stared at this bird that turned into a ball of fire as it charged at me.

Something like this really could only be called a phoenix.

The good thing was that this ball of flames wasn’t that fast to begin with, so it was easy for me to remain ahead of it.

The bad thing was that no matter how many swords I shot out into the ball of flame, it didn’t seem to have any effect.

It seemed that after reaching the second phase, the attributes of the phoenix had turned into pure flames. It meant that it had become a being of pure flames that could ignore any physical attacks.

So no matter how many swords I threw at it, it didn’t seem to work at all.

But it wasn’t as if that really mattered.

After all, I was just playing around with the phoenix and testing it.

I knew that if I wanted to take down something that was made of pure elemental energy, the only way to actually solidify it so that it couldn’t avoid the attacks.

So the swords were being sent at the flames more to test the durability of the swords.

Then all of a sudden, I came to a stop.

The ball of flames continued charging at me at first, but then it came to a stop as well right before it could reach me. Once it came to a stop like this, there were ice flowers that bloomed in the air.

It wasn’t as if I had been running around in a circle for nothing while I was testing the durability of the swords.

I had been making sure to scatter the ice particles around during this time just so I could build this array.

Once it was built, it was easy to activate it and trap the phoenix.

The phoenix did what it could to burn away the ice, but it really wasn’t able to do anything since this was divine energy ice. The amount of heat that was needed to burn away this kind of ice was on a completely different level.

So in the end, the phoenix was completely trapped in the ice and couldn’t move.

The flames under the ice were still burning strong, but it wasn’t strong enough to do anything to the ice. Though if one looked closely, they could see that the flames were slowly fading away.

It was the ice that was suppressing the flames of the phoenix.

I waited for a bit before suddenly sending out the sword.

"I’m sorry, I’m just too broken." That was the last thing that I said to the phoenix, regardless of whether it could understand me or not.

Though the way that it looked at me as the sword pierced through the ice made it seem like it could understand what I was saying. After all, there was a bit of regret in its eyes over the fact that it had been born in this dungeon.

If it hadn’t been a boss monster of this dungeon, it certainly would have lived a much better life since there really wasn’t anything that could have harmed a phoenix like this.

After the phoenix shattered apart, it didn’t burst into flames again and just turned into loot this time.

Since it burst into loot, that meant that it was officially dead as far as the dungeon was concerned.
