The protagonist captured some thugs who were sent to finalize a deal. After interrogating them violently, he learned that the deal was a drug deal gone wrong and the young boss was directly responsible. Disgusted, the protagonist decided this was a problem for the police, not himself.

"You’re finally here."

I wasn’t surprised to hear this from the lead detective, but I knew that these words were nothing more than a way for him to cover the anxiety that he held in his heart.

The look in his eyes was already more than enough to show what he was actually thinking.

It had been two days since I had submitted the report on what I found.

The moment that he saw the report, the lead detective just looked at me like he thought I was a monster. There was even a part of him that wondered if I was crazy for coming to this kind of conclusion.

Only there was nothing that he could do as he was dragged away.

It wasn’t as if he could keep this report here, so he had submitted it hoping that the higher ups would disprove it. But it turned out that this was related to something that the higher ups were already looking into.

Since it was related, the lead detective had no choice but to become involved.

I was the one that had submitted the report on this matter, so it was only natural that I would be pulled in to join the following investigation.

I could already see that he wasn’t happy about all of this, but I also knew that the lead detective had no choice on the matter.

Which was why I didn’t bother antagonizing him and just asked, "Where are we meeting?"

The lead detective narrowed his eyes to look at me for a moment, but he didn’t bother doing anything more than this. There was nothing for him to gain from making a bigger deal out of this matter after all.

With a sigh and a wave, he turned around to lead the way.

The meeting room was already filled with people when we arrived, but it didn’t seem like we were late either. It seemed like they had come early because they were here to set things up for the meeting.

Which was why they didn’t really react when we entered the room, they just focused on what they had been doing.

From the materials that they were setting up, it seemed like it was related to the drug deal part of the case that I had solved.

It wasn’t really surprising that it was the drugs part of the case that had been related to the bigger investigation. After all, this kind of thing really was common when it came to organized crime.

It really was the biggest money maker for most crime organizations.

After a while of them setting this up, the ones that were in charge of the meeting finally arrived. However, I couldn’t help being a bit caught off guard when I saw them.

The clothes that they were wearing showed that they were from the royal guards.

I couldn’t help thinking of what the royal guard captain had said to me just a few days ago.

"Please don’t cause any trouble."

It wasn’t that I wanted to cause trouble, it was just that trouble came to me.

Not to mention that this wasn’t my problem, I was just solving a case that was related to this matter. It wasn’t as if I was the one that was organizing the operation to attack the organizations behind the drugs.

So it really wasn’t related to me.

Or that was what I told myself so that I wouldn’t feel that bad about this situation.

With the royal guards taking charge of the meeting, it seemed like no one dared to act negligent.

At the same time, it seemed like many of them didn’t even know that the royal guards would be here with the surprised expressions that they showed. It seemed like many people thought that this would just be a large scale operation within the police organization.

After all, the royal guards were technically the superiors of the police organization.

They were the ones that were responsible for national security while the police were nothing more than patrol guards that were responsible for taking care of the smaller matters.

So when the royal guards got involved, everyone knew that this was a serious matter.

From what the royal guards shared, it seemed like this was something that they had been working on for a long time now. It was all because this was an operation that targeted the Tide Brotherhood that was behind this.

Since they all worked in law enforcement, there wasn’t a single person here that wasn’t familiar with the Tide Brotherhood. It was just that none of them thought that the royal guards would suddenly target the Tide Brotherhood like this.

After all, the Tide Brotherhood had many connections among the nobles of the Merman Kingdom. It was the reason why they were considered the largest criminal organization within the Merman Kingdom.

If they were doing this now, it was certain that there would be a large change in the entire Merman Kingdom.

But this wasn’t the only thing that they were surprised by.

The other surprising thing was just how many of the Tide Brotherhood’s hideouts had been identified by the royal guards and were put on the list to be raided.

From how many had been identified, they could easily tell that the royal guards had been preparing for this for a long time. Otherwise, they certainly wouldn’t have been able to find all of these.

The other reason that the Tide Brotherhood was so hard to deal with was how elusive they were in keeping their hideouts hidden.

Even when I met with the young boss, he had only met me in one of the disposable bars that was under the Tide Brotherhood.

The true hideouts of the Tide Brotherhood weren’t things that anyone could just enter, even if they were working with the Tide Brotherhood.

One could only begin to imagine how much effort it took them to find all of these.

The royal guards really were determined to wipe out the Tide Brotherhood.
