The protagonist interrogates a boss about the Tide Brotherhood, learning about its influence and the boss's failed attempt to join. He then pressures corrupt nobles and merchants in the dungeon, extracting more information and connections to the organization. Afterward, he is cautioned by the royal guard captain to avoid causing trouble, though he senses he is being followed.

"You’re the one that was looking for me?"

Seeing the one that appeared, I couldn’t help giving a secret laugh.

After all, this person looked like a villain no matter how one looked at him.

Of course, his true identity wasn’t that far off from his appearance since he was one of the young bosses of the Tide Brotherhood.

It had taken a decent amount of money, but I was able to arrange this meeting in the end. All of the connections that those prisoners had given me had paid off as it got me this meeting.

As for how this meeting would go...

"That’s right. I have a new business idea that I was hoping to have your support with."

"Oh?" At the very least, it seemed like this young boss was interested.

Though the reason that he was interested was more because of the money that I had thrown to get this meeting. It was only because he recognized that I had money that he was showing this interest.

Of course, it was more that he was thinking about how to take this money from me rather than thinking about how we could cooperate.

After hearing the proposal that I made, the young boss seemed far less interested.

I wasn’t surprised seeing this since the plan that I had proposed wasn’t a good idea to begin with. The only reason that I had come here was to get information, so it wasn’t as if I cared about whether he agreed to my plan or not.

At the same time, it wasn’t as if I was going to pitch a proper plan to someone that belonged to a criminal organization.

Doing something like that would have the opposite effect of what I was trying to accomplish.

Seeing that he wasn’t interested, I didn’t really care as I was waiting for the young boss to say something.

In the end, he said, "We’ve had something come up recently, so we were looking to expand into new businesses. So you’re in luck today."

I was surprised to hear this, but then I asked, "What do you mean?"

Hearing the wary tone that was in my voice, the young boss just said, "Your business will replace one of the ones that we lost, that’s why you’re in luck."

I was once again surprised to hear this, but I didn’t show it this time.

I never thought that I would be this lucky, but sometimes luck was all that one needed.

The business that I had proposed was using a bar to distribute drugs and I just needed a supplier and protection for that bar.

The fact that he said that it would be replacing it meant that the business that they lost was related to the same industry. And the fact that it was lost recently definitely had to do with the crime scene that I was investigating.

But for everything to line up like this, it really felt like too much of a coincidence.

I wasn’t going to question the luck that I had, instead I pushed forward by asking, "Then how much of a cut are you willing to give up?"

As soon as I said this, the young boss’ face fell as he said, "You’re the one that came here asking for our help and you’re asking for a cut? Do you really think that we lack someone like you?"

Seeing this, I acted as if I was afraid and said, "I’m sorry, I know that I was pushing a bit too hard." Then after a pause, I said, "But you have to understand that I have to make a living as well. Not to mention that with all the money that’s already been spent."

The young boss gave a snort after hearing this, but he still said as if he was giving me a favour, "20%, no more no less. That’s all that you’re entitled to with what you’re bringing to the table."

His tone showed that he didn’t allow any negotiations at all.

With his looks, it really was quite the terrifying appearance, but it wasn’t as if I was actually afraid of him.

Still, I said, "Alright, alright, I understand. I’ll have to take the loss this time and accept these terms."

The young boss gave another snort, but then he suddenly smiled and reached out his hand to say, "Then we’ll send someone to arrange things on your end."

I took it and shook it while agreeing to his terms.

Though as I was leaving, I suddenly turned back to say, "Can I ask what problem you’ve encountered with the business that failed?"

The young boss narrowed his eyes to look at me before saying, "That’s none of your business."

With an awkward cough, I said, "Considering that we’re going into a similar business together, I think that it would be pertinent for me to know what happened. After all, I hope that the same thing won’t happen again with this business."

There was a tone that implied that I was worried about what might happen.

Hearing this, the young boss hesitated for a moment before saying with a sigh, "It was just a bit of internal trouble, but there’s no need to worry about this since we’ve already taken care of it. You won’t have to worry about something like this happening again."

The latter half of his words were firm, showing that he had full confidence to back these words.

However, what I really cared about was the first half.

It was just that it would be unlikely that he would tell me more than this.

"I’ll just have to get the information that I want from the one that he sends then."

With a smile, I said, "Alright, then I’ll trust your words on this matter. I hope that we’ll have a fruitful cooperation."

The young boss gave a nod with a soft snort before waving his hand as if he was sending me out.
