Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 2336: Detective work (1)

Back at the station, the others took care of the criminal for me.
Since we had caught the criminal, it was only natural that we would have to process them as well.
However, the others just waved me off as they said, "Go on, there’s no point in leaving the paperwork to you when you’ve already caught the criminal. We have to at least do a bit of work for our pay."
This team of mine was quite the friendly one, so I wasn’t worried about leaving them with these things.
But it turned out that they only did this because someone else wanted me.
"It seems like you’re quite the star, aren’t you?"
An awkward smile appeared on my face when I heard this.
I wouldn’t have minded others saying this, but it was hard when it was the chief that said this. The way that the chief said this was almost as if he was making fun of me instead of actually praising me.
My experience from my past life told me that there was nothing good about a boss suddenly offering praise like this.
However, it turned out that I was thinking too much.
"Since you’ve arrived, our numbers have gone way up and we’re even being praised by the higher ups." There was a wide smile on the face of the chief at this point, so it was clear that this wasn’t something bad.
Though from the way that the chief was acting, it seemed like there was something that he wanted from me.
After praising me a few more times, which also included praising himself, he finally got to the main point.
"It seems like a waste to leave you on patrol like this."
I was surprised that he would say something like this, but it wasn’t as if I actually minded being on patrol duty. It was certainly a different experience from anything that I had experienced before.
"I think that you would benefit from being a detective as well. I’ve already heard about how good your analytical skills are in the field."
This was the reason that I didn’t say anything in the end.
After all, if the chief was going to offer me a promotion like this, there really was no reason for me to turn it down. Especially since it was for a position like detective.
In this police force, detectives were considered the elites and for that reason, there were only so many of them. There was a limited number of detectives and these positions were ones that they all fought for.
So it wasn’t as if one could become a detective whenever.
"Thank you chief, I won’t let you down." After a pause, I couldn’t help adding, "Which detective is retiring? I’ll go and talk to them before they leave."
The chief shook his head as he said, "No one’s retiring, this is a completely new position."
I was surprised to hear this, but the chief said, "The number of people are growing, so it’s only natural that we increase the number of officers and detectives."
Though the chief said this, I could already guess what it was that had resulted in this.
Still, it wasn’t as if this was bad for me. This was quite the favourable thing for me, so there was no reason not to go along with it.
Which was why I gave a salute to the chief and said, "Thank you for this opportunity."
The chief just gave a nod and waved his hand before saying, "Go on then. Ask the lead detective what you need to learn, I’ve already sent them everything that you need to start."
With that, I headed off to the detective floor.
"That child, who does he have behind him?" The chief couldn’t help asking himself in the end.
...
"So you’re the new one. You’re quite young, aren’t you?"
I wasn’t surprised to hear this when I arrived on the detective floor.
After all, it was a fact that I was younger compared to the other detectives that were in this office. It was only natural that he would look down on me to a certain extent and would want to establish the order in the office.
I just looked at the lead detective and said, "Is there any work for me?"
The lead detective narrowed his eyes to look at me for a few seconds before pointing at one of the desks that were here.
I just gave a simple nod and made my way over.
On the desk, I saw that there was a stack of papers. However, I could see that these weren’t actually cases.
Rather, it seemed like they were getting me to do all of the paperwork of the department with everything that they piled on my desk.
Still, I didn’t let that get to me as I started working through the pile.
At first, the others just ignored me as if I wasn’t there at all. But it didn’t take long for them to turn their attention to me when they saw the speed that I processed the paperwork with.
It didn’t take long for that large pile of papers to be completely taken care of.
Once that was done, I didn’t bother asking them anything else as I stood up and headed to the exit.
After all, the work day was over and there was no need for me to stay here any longer.
As I passed by the lead detective, he just gave me a look as if he didn’t know what to say to me. But I just ignored him as I walked past him since I knew that there was no need for me to say anything.
My work had already proven everything, so it wasn’t as if speaking now would change anything.
After all, the lead detective had made sure to check all of my work as I finished it.
I wasn’t going to leave this kind of gap just for them to attack me with.
