Shota arrives at the Merman Kingdom just as Ariel gives birth to their child. However, a strange phenomenon occurs during the birth, causing the seas to react. The Merman King hints that he felt something from the trident the moment his grandchild was born, suggesting involvement from a mysterious 'they.'

With our shared thought, we journeyed without delay to the very place that would validate our suspicions.

Direct confrontation with the responsible party was the only course of action, we believed.

However, I never anticipated such an easy concession from them...

From my understanding of the individual in charge, they were certainly not the type to readily answer questions. In fact, they would exert every effort to evade any inquiries I posed.

Their sole apparent interest lay in their own personal gain...

Yet, there was truly no other recourse; no one else we could turn to for the answers we sought.

This necessity is precisely why we arrived at the temple.

Upon our arrival, it seemed as though preparations had already been made for us. It was as if they had long received a divine decree, for they guided me directly to my intended destination.

Once there, it felt as though there was no transition, I was simply drawn into that space.

Looking around, it was clear we were not the only ones present.

A multitude of gods appeared to be assembled in this very location, as if gathered to bear witness to a significant event.

This sight compelled me to furrow my brow slightly.

After all, it gave the impression that a certain entity was attempting to silence my intended words by convening all these deities. However, regardless of their intentions, I was not about to refrain from speaking.

There were matters that simply had to be addressed.

"Did you notice the signal I sent?"

Halting the words that were poised to escape my lips, I regarded Aquaron with a peculiar expression.

Despite my preparedness, this development was certainly not what I had foreseen.

While it undeniably simplified matters for me, his sudden admission of such a thing was truly perplexing...

Especially in the presence of all these gods.

It bore a striking resemblance to confessing one's transgressions in a public forum...

Upon closer inspection, however, the deities seemed unfazed by Aquaron's admission. In fact, their expressions suggested they might even commend him for it.

The more I observed the gods' reactions, the more a sense of unease settled upon me. This was no mere suspicion; it felt as though they were all plotting against me in some manner...

The stronger this feeling grew, the more I yearned to depart from this place.

But without obtaining the information I required, leaving was simply not an option.

Therefore, with a sigh, I posed the question, "Why did you do it?"

"It is quite straightforward. It was to proclaim the arrival of my successor."

Although the words themselves were intelligible, their combination baffled me. What Aquaron had just stated made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

"A mortal? Your successor?" I inquired slowly, regaining my composure.

Aquaron simply nodded, as if this were the most natural occurrence imaginable.

Concurrently, it appeared that all the gods accepted this pronouncement without question, treating it as perfectly normal. Not a single deity voiced any objection.

Once again, the situation felt undeniably amiss.

At that point, I couldn't help but exclaim, "Are you out of your mind?"

A part of me instantly regretted my outburst, but it was too late to retract it. Since the words had already been spoken, all I could do was narrow my eyes at Aquaron, my gaze questioning him.

Yet, it seemed none of the gods took offense at my remark.

Not a single one appeared surprised by my direct question.

Instead, an amused glint flickered in their eyes, as if they had anticipated my very inquiry.

Nevertheless, Aquaron calmly stated, "I am entirely serious. There is no one else worthy of inheriting my position."

I found myself staring at Aquaron as if he had descended into madness, encountering him for the very first time. This version of Aquaron was utterly unlike any I had ever known.

The more we conversed, the more I became convinced that he had completely lost his sanity.

To declare a mortal as the sole worthy successor, and to do so before the assembled gods who pledged allegiance to him...

Now that I could clearly perceive these deities, I recognized them all as beings associated with water in some capacity. Given this, it was highly probable that these gods were Aquaron's subordinates.

Logically, one would assume that if gods indeed had successors, one of these divine beings would be chosen. Yet, these gods seemed entirely unperturbed by Aquaron's declaration.

They all appeared to endorse his decision wholeheartedly.

"Why would they willingly submit to a mortal?"

A part of me harbored even greater suspicion, prompting the thought, "Are they merely agreeing now with the intention of eliminating my child later on?" Yet, on the other hand, it wasn't as though there was any benefit to be gained from making a child like this vanish... "Then tell me, how do you plan to make him your successor? How will you elevate a mortal to the status of a god?" At this juncture, the only recourse left to me was this form of sarcasm. It was simply that Aquaron appeared entirely unfazed by my sarcastic remarks.
