Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 1972: She’s just lazy (2)

Led by elite guards into a deep underground tunnel, the group discovers a hidden chamber radiating an overwhelming amount of divine energy. Despite the protests of his wary royal guards, the protagonist enters the central room alone to avoid a confrontation with the suspicious sentries. Inside, he encounters a small spider acting as a vessel for the God of Insects, who wishes to speak privately. The deity reveals that their messenger, Queenie, is simply too lazy to fulfill her duties properly, necessitating this direct divine intervention through a temporary host.

Speechless, I stared at the spider as it spoke. It became clear that Insectum, the God of Insects, was incapable of keeping their mouth shut.

This deity seemed to be the type that simply couldn't stop rambling once they started. However, I realized this trait wasn't necessarily a disadvantage for me.

Clearing my throat, I replied, "Fine, I grasp the situation you're in. But how does any of that relate to what is happening right now?"

"Exactly, it is quite straightforward. I am certain the other gods shared things with you during your meetings, but I haven't had the opportunity to speak yet. Since I just explained how incredibly lazy my messenger is, you can surely imagine the difficulty of communicating through her."

A small smirk touched my lips at those words before vanishing. "So," I asked, "what was it you wanted to discuss?"

"Oh, it isn't anything too major. I was simply hoping you could handle a certain matter on my behalf."

"Huh?" I couldn't mask my confusion upon hearing the request.

Despite Insectum’s complaints about Queenie’s laziness, the way the god asked for this favor was identical to how she had pressured me into taking the relic. It appeared the two of them were far more alike than the God of Insects cared to admit.

Then again, there had to be a specific reason why Queenie was chosen as Insectum’s messenger in the first place.

I composed myself with a cough and inquired, "What exactly do you need me to do?"

"It is a minor issue, really. There is just a collection of corruption energy in this location that I need you to eliminate."

"Wait, what?" This time, I was completely blindsided.

Insectum spoke as if this were some trivial errand, yet the subject being raised was anything but small. The god remained silent for a heartbeat before adding, "Oh, it isn't nearly as dire as you're imagining."

I gave the deity a skeptical look, unable to fathom how such a thing wouldn't be serious. Nevertheless, I remained quiet and waited for Insectum to provide an explanation.

"You are undoubtedly aware of the scouts the God of Destruction has deployed across the continent, correct?"

I nodded slowly. We had dealt with them before, and their numbers had dwindled since we destroyed their outposts. While lingering traces of corruption energy were still discovered occasionally, it was nothing compared to the previous scale.

"Naturally, they attempted to infiltrate my domain. Consequently, I ensured that any who snuck inside were intercepted and imprisoned."

"Why didn't you just use purification?" I asked, sounding puzzled. "You are a god, after all."

The sheer volume of divine energy radiating before me was proof enough of Insectum’s celestial status. That level of power should have been more than sufficient to cleanse any standard monster born of corruption energy. Unless they were facing a high-ranking Apostle of Destruction, there was no reason a god couldn't handle it. Capturing and detaining them seemed unnecessary.

After a brief, clumsy silence, Insectum admitted, "Well... that is because my particular power isn't suited for such tasks."

My suspicion grew as I listened. It made little sense for a god standing against the forces of Destruction to lack the means to deal with them.

"My abilities are focused on expansion rather than destruction. I can cause them some pain, but I lack the finishing blow required to truly erase them."

The more the god spoke, the more my doubts intensified. Seeing my skepticism, Insectum suddenly declared, "Showing you will be much simpler than explaining it."

Without waiting for my consent, the spider descended from the podium and moved toward the wall. By tapping the surface with its foreleg, a hidden passage was triggered, revealing a staircase that descended into the darkness.

Though the whole situation felt increasingly bizarre, I followed. As we moved downward, I began to detect the unmistakable stench of corruption energy ahead.

Insectum hadn't been exaggerating; a massive concentration of corruption energy was indeed pooled here. I remained skeptical, however, that they could truly keep all of this contained.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, we entered a vast chamber. In the center of the room lay a massive pit so deep that the floor was invisible. The oppressive aura emanating from the hole made it clear—the pit was overflowing with corruption energy.

This was the problem Insectum had described. As I stepped toward the edge to inspect it, something within the depths reacted.

A presence stirred deep in the darkness before suddenly lunging toward me, reaching out as if to seize me. The dim lighting made it hard to see until it was nearly upon me, but I could already feel the foul aura it projected.

It was pure corruption energy—a manifested entity of filth reaching out to drag me down into the abyss.
