The God of Insects, Insectum, reveals that a massive collection of corruption energy has been detained within its territory. Despite being a deity, Insectum claims its powers of expansion are unsuited for purification and requests assistance in dealing with the captured scouts of the God of Destruction. Upon being led to a subterranean pit, a concentrated mass of corruption energy stirs from the depths and attempts to seize the protagonist.

The moment I felt it, my instinctive reaction was to lift my arm and concentrate my divine energy.

I stood ready to launch an attack to cleanse the encroaching corruption energy that was surging toward me.

However, before that dark mass could make contact, a protective shield suddenly materialized around my body.

This barrier, composed of untainted divine energy, acted as a wall that kept the corruption energy at bay.

While this divine energy shield was remarkably potent and theoretically should have purified the corruption, it failed to do so; instead, it merely seemed to irritate or sting the dark force.

Despite being divine energy of a supposedly superior grade, its interaction with the corruption energy suggested otherwise.

"As you can see, this is the reason why I can't deal with this destruction energy." Insectum remarked suddenly from my side.

I remained silent, choosing instead to focus my attention on the nature of the divine energy.

After observing it for a moment, the root of the problem became clear to me.

Even though the barrier was formed from pure divine energy, I noticed that its specific attribute differed from any divine energy I had previously encountered.

Through my past conversations with the gods, I had begun to grasp the significance of divine energy attributes.

I understood that for a deity to achieve godhood, they required a specific domain to govern.

This domain, in turn, dictated the unique attribute of the divine energy they wielded.

I hadn't been certain what kind of attribute a God of Insects would possess, but the answer was now obvious.

It was propagation.

The existence of this divine energy barrier was due to the massive volume of energy present. Because of the inherent nature of Insectum’s power, divine energy was being generated in immense quantities.

Yet, a high quantity did not necessarily equate to high destructive power.

As Insectum’s divine energy propagated, it simply multiplied itself at the same power level. Its strength did not increase as it spread.

Essentially, it was expanding in terms of volume, not quality.

Consequently, the barrier lacked any true offensive bite.

Its defensive capabilities were undeniable, however, as it could draw upon a nearly limitless supply of energy. So long as Insectum’s essence remained, the energy would continue to multiply.

Thus, Insectum’s claim held weight.

Its power was ill-suited for eradicating this corruption energy, though it was perfectly designed to contain it.

Insectum watched me quietly as I analyzed the interaction between the corruption and the barrier, eventually speaking up: "As you can see, I'm specialized in defense and not so much in attack. Even if I wanted to, there really isn't much that I could do against this destruction energy."

Lin Fan cast a peculiar glance at the spider.

After a brief silence, Insectum let out a sigh and added, "If you hadn't shown up, then I wouldn't have been able to do anything and would have lost control of this destruction energy eventually."

"Why not ask the other gods for help? I'm sure that there's someone that would have been willing to lend a hand. After all, it's not as if you were the one that created this habitat for your messenger in the first place."

"No one will move right now because of the proph…" Insectum began to explain, but abruptly cut itself off as if realizing it had said too much.

I narrowed my eyes at the deity, knowing full well it wouldn't reveal anything further.

A single slip-up was all it took for it to retreat back behind its guard.

The spider turned its gaze away, seemingly unable to meet my eyes.

Since no more information was forthcoming...

I turned back toward the abyss and raised my hand high.

As I did, vibrant flames began to coalesce in the air above the pit.

I had been concerned that the divine barrier might block my attack, but the flames passed through effortlessly since they shared the same divine source. Insectum’s barrier allowed them to transit without the slightest resistance.

Once the fire had gathered sufficient intensity, I gestured downward, sending the flames plunging into the depths.

Initially, the corruption energy hadn't dared to challenge the divine flames out of sheer terror. But with the fire raining down upon them, the dark forces were forced into a desperate struggle for survival.

The torrent of corruption energy that erupted from the bottom of the pit was far more massive than I had anticipated.

It appeared that a staggering amount of filth had accumulated there over the eons.

I realized then that I had vastly underrated the sheer strength of Insectum’s containment defenses.

The flames raged for a considerable time until the upward surge of corruption finally ceased.

"Is that it?" I inquired of Insectum, who was observing from my side.

The spider nodded slowly before speaking, "You really are the one chosen by them…"

This was yet another piece of the puzzle, but I refrained from reacting, hoping to bait out more details.

However, one thing became crystal clear through this ordeal.

Insectum had called Queenie lazy... but based on what I had witnessed, the god was just as indolent as she was.

There were likely numerous ways Insectum could have handled this, yet it simply went along with my most basic suggestion. It was obvious that Insectum hadn't bothered to think of a solution beyond seeking outside help.

It seemed the nature of a god truly did influence the personality of their messenger...

Wait, that couldn't be entirely right, considering Zeldir was nothing like the deity he served.

That god was a total fanatic, while Zeldir was the complete opposite—unless Zeldir was hiding a secret side of himself or was an expert at masking his emotions.

I certainly hoped that wasn't the case.

Shaking off those thoughts, I asked, "So is there anything else that you want me to do?"

Insectum seemed to snap out of its reverie, shaking its head. "No, that was the only problem that I needed your help with. Now that you're done, let's go and get you that relic."

Truly, this god and messenger were two peas in a pod.
