Rise of The Demon General Chapter 885. Creating an Opening
Previously on Rise of The Demon General...
Ling Dau’s heads spread in all directions, observing whether anyone dared to come and challenge him, while one of them looked down at Hai Di. That head was growling.
"You are proving to be more trouble than your worth, pet," He told Hai Di. "How about we call it quits. You merge with me and forget all this bullshit about ruling the lower world?"
Hai Di was panting. He consumed a recovery pill and replied, "I haven’t lost yet."
Ling Dau gazed in the direction of Venal Virtuous City. The Cryanid horde continued to battle the Devotion Faction army and swarmed the city. The horde appeared to be the obvious victors on both fronts.
"It doesn’t look that way to me," he said.
"As long as I still live, I can still turn this around!" Hai Di exclaimed. "If I give my soul to you, then it’s no different than being dead. We agree that I give you my soul willingly after I have a full life. I haven’t even dominated the lower world. I haven’t experienced life to the fullest!"
"Are you thick-headed or something? I told you that fusing your soul with mine doesn’t mean death. You will live on in me."
"Why would I want to live on as a monster?"
The statement caused Ling Dau to narrow his eyes. "Be careful, pet. You are treading on thin ice..."
Not far away, Amon landed where Yao Ai had fallen. Her body was charred, but she could still stand back up.
"Can you still fight?" Amon asked her.
Yao Ai felt searing pain all over her body, but she could still move properly. "Yes. That blast just now is different from the last time, when I was hit directly by his blast breaths. I can still endure it, but I don’t plan to get hit a second time. Are we still fighting that monster?"
"Hai Di is still alive, isn’t he? We are not done until he is down."
"How do you propose we do that with the hideous dragon in the way?"
The answer came from a different party. Ling Dau had landed to protect Hai Di. He was within reach of an opponent that had previously lost its ability to fly. The Cryanid King was charging at him at full speed.
Out of the forces in this battle, the Cryanids were among those without fear. They were not scared of Ling Dau. His aura still affected weaker Cryanids, causing them difficulty in moving, but their psyche was unaffected. Hence, while everyone was in doubt about assaulting Ling Dau, the Cryanid King didn’t have the same reservations. It was still acting under the same instruction as when Arrasixx was riding it, to assault the multi-headed dragon. He was unable to do so before because Ling Dau remained in the sky. Now that the dragon had landed, it immediately rushed over.
Ling Dau’s eyes were on the opponents floating in the sky, but he sensed the Cryanid King coming. He smirked as he watched the incoming giant insect. One of his heads fired a blast breath that looked like a raging tornado. The tornado beam struck the Cryanid King. The winds from the tornado shredded the Cryanid King’s carapace, but it kept advancing.
"Huh?" Ling Dau was taken aback by the Cryanid King’s tenacity. It turned out the Cryanid King’s carapace was thicker and sturdier than he had expected.
The Cryanid King rammed the three horns on its head into Ling Dau’s massive body. They failed to pierce his scales, but the ramming force still pushed him back slightly. The Cryanid King used its two giant scythes as anchors on Ling Dau’s body. Its long tail coiled around one of Ling Dau’s neck and secured itself using the hook in its end.
"Now is our chance! Go!!" Amon exclaimed as he rushed forward.
Di Ying and the others charged forward upon Amon’s call. Yao Ai and Krassazh hesitated for a bit before advancing. They followed the same arrangement as before. Di Ying and the others went high for Ling Dau, while Amon and Yao Ai went low for Hai Di.
"How dare you touch me, you disgusting insect!!" Ling Dau exclaimed.
His heads that weren’t bound by the Cryanid King’s tail lashed out and bit the different parts of the Cryanid King’s body. As for the bound head, it was facing down, directly at the Cryanid King’s center. It opened its jaws, unleashing a light-element blast breath. As blinding white breath melted the Cryanid King’s carapace, Ling Dau’s other heads that were biting on the Cryanid King’s body pulled in different directions. In a violent rip, the Cryanid King was torn into five separate pieces.
Everyone was shocked to see the Cryanid King killed so swiftly, even before they arrived. Nevertheless, it was too late to back off. They were too close already.
"You worms want to join this insect, too?!" Ling Dau roared. The five heads that didn’t fire any breaths just now, did so now. Five beams of different colors were spread in different directions.
Thankfully, everyone paused briefly when they witnessed the Cryanid King’s death, so they could react when the energy beams headed for them. They all performed evasive maneuvers and dodged the blast breaths.
Bo Wu dodged by using his Shadow Walk. His ability allowed him to continue advancing while dodging.
"You have the nerve to play using shadow power in front of me," Ling Dau spoke with a mocking tone. A dark fog materialized, covering one of his heads. That head merged with the shadow and lunged at the incoming Bo Wu. The shadow head clamped its jaws on Bo Wu, biting him as if his shadow form was tangible.
Bo Wu’s shadow walk ended once he received damage. Ling Dau’s head kept biting him. The metal shell on the bitten part was filled with cracks. Bo Wu yelped. Even though he was hosted inside a mechanical body, he still felt some degree of pain. It was his soul that powered this mechanical body, after all.
The dark fog that covered Ling Dau’s head dispersed. He tightened his bite, crushing Bo Wu’s lower half. The upper half of Bo Wu fell on the ground. He kept yelping from the pain.
Another one that managed to approach Ling Dau after Bo Wu was the wyvern-titan beast, but it received a similar result as Bo Wu. One of Ling Dau’s heads snatched it before it could deliver any attack. It used its diamond skin ability before Ling Dau’s jaws clamped on it. Ling Dau couldn’t bite through the tough skin even with his incredible strength. But since the altered beast couldn’t move when it was in that condition, it couldn’t counterattack.
Ling Dau threw the hardened beast to the ground. It then repeatedly slammed into it using its neck. The ground cracked and cratered. The cracks enlarged and the crater deepened with each slam. The wyvern-titan beast didn’t dare to undo its diamond skin. The instant it did, it would be turned into paste.
The third one to approach Ling Dau was the Titan Battle Puppet. Like the altered beast, it didn’t possess any fear. The jet booster on its back gave it a speed boost that caught Ling Dau off guard. It was the first one to make contact with the multi-headed dragon after the Cryanid King. Its two fists slammed into the crown of one of Ling Dau’s heads. The explosive pellets on those fists ignited, resulting in a powerful explosion that slammed the head into the ground.
"Bastard! You will pay for that!" Ling Dau’s other head exclaimed. That head also opened its mouth wide. A red glow was seen inside the open mouth.
The Titan Battle Puppet was too close to dodge. It resorted to using its ultimate weapon. The plates on its chest opened, revealing a giant nozzle. Out of the nozzle, a bright beam was released.
Ling Dau’s red blast breath collided with the Titan Battle Puppet’s core beam. Despite the core beam being the Titan Battle Puppet’s most powerful weapon, it still couldn’t compete with the power of an Intermediate Deity Beast. The red beam devoured the core beam before crashing into the Titan Battle Puppet.
The Titan Battle Puppet was sent far away. After the beam’s power ended, it dropped to the ground. All its outer shells had been melted. It even fused with a large part of its internal mechanism due to the intense heat from the blast breath. In other words, it couldn’t move anymore.
"Damn it! We are too late!" Surressh exclaimed. They used their gravity arts to slow Ling Dau, but they were late in getting into range because Krassazh hesitated to advance. This had cost them several combatants.
The only ones left to distract Ling Dau were Lin Li and Di Ying. Lin Li advanced with caution. She maintained a safe distance and used her wind blasts for assaults. However, her ranged attacks were too weak to disrupt Ling Dau.
Di Ying saw no choice but to take a risk again. After Krassazh and Surresh’s gravity arts slowed Ling Dau, she charged forward. She did another body blow that forced him to budge from his position, exposing Hai Di, just as Yao Ai and Amon came near Hai Di’s position.
