Rise of The Demon General Chapter 884. Taking out a Loved One
Previously on Rise of The Demon General...
While Yao Ai was chasing Hai Di and Ling Dau was busy with Di Ying and the others, Amon was chasing Hai Lao.
Like Hai Di, Hai Lao also maintained a safe distance between himself and his pursuer. Not only because he was wounded, but also because he excelled in long-range battles.
Amon didn’t shy away from a long-range battle. After fusing Broken Justice with the Xian Chain, he could easily cover mid-range combat. He swung the broken sword in a large circle, breaking all the black arrows fired by Hai Lao, then counterattacked by throwing his flying knives.
Hai Lao used his bow to deflect those knives. His bow was a low-tiered ancient weapon. Aside from having the properties to create arrows, it also had a bladed edge along the outer side of the bow. This allowed him to use it as a melee weapon when needed.
After deflecting Amon’s knives, it was Hai Lao’s turn to fire back. They kept taking turns attacking and defending. If it were a regular situation, Hai Lao would be at an advantage, because he needed no ammunition, while Amon would run out of flying knives sooner or later. The situation, however, was not regular. It was clear that Amon was only trying to keep him away from his father.
Hai Lao had been trying to sneak his arrows to aid his father, but Amon seemed to be aware. Amon destroyed those arrows even when they were not aimed at him. Hai Lao was frustrated. With only one hand, his firing rate greatly lowered.
Amon could see Hai Lao becoming restless. He poured oil onto the fire by throwing an insult. "Your Law of Pursuit is impressive, but it means nothing if your attacks don’t possess enough power to break through obstacles."
"You have the nerve to speak, traitor to humanity," Hai Lao returned. "When this battle is over. Everyone will know that you and Yao Ai have sold out to those insects. All humans will be your enemy!"
Amon gave a mocking grin. "You won’t be around when this battle is over. We can weave the story to paint us in a better light."
"It will be you who are no longer around when this battle is over!" Hai Lao exclaimed as he fired another barrage of black arrows.
Amon easily destroyed all those arrows as his chained dagger whirled around him, forming a protective bubble.
Hai Lao was astonished. Even though he was wounded, he was an Overlord Stage cultivator. Amon was only an Intermediate Mammoth Stage. It shouldn’t be that easy for Amon to destroy his arrows. Yet, he couldn’t deny the fact when it happened right before his eyes.
He didn’t know that Amon always had the power to fight someone with higher cultivation. In his frustration, he decided not to conserve energy any longer. He pulled his bow string using his teeth. A giant black arrow was formed. When he fired, the arrow became a thick, dark beam.
Amon could sense that the power of this dark beam couldn’t be compared to the black arrows from before. He used the Invisible Sky Steps to dodge the beam.
Hai Lao didn’t want to waste too much time fighting Amon, so he went all out. He pulled his bow again. A second dark beam was fired. Two dark beams now chased Amon. Both had homing abilities, and they came at Amon from different directions.
Despite being put in a situation where he couldn’t escape, Amon remained grinning. He pulled the Xian Chain and gripped the Broken Justice directly on its hilt. His arm moved in a pose that was ready to throw a wide swing.
"Don’t think you can block my attacks!" Hai Lao exclaimed.
Amon’s grin never waned. Thick shadows covered his body. The shadows took form, making him look like a devil. The dagger in his hand shone brightly, contrasting the dark shadows that covered his body. He waited in the position where the two dark beams arrived almost simultaneously. With a wide swing, the shining dagger struck both the dark beams.
To Hai Lao’s surprise, the two dark beams he was confident in shattered into pieces.
He couldn’t help but blurt out his surprise. "How... How can a mere Intermediate Mammoth Stage cultivator destroy my full power assault...?"
He was surprised a second time when the shattered pieces of his beam didn’t vanish. Instead, the dark shadows from the destroyed beam converged into Amon’s free hand. The shadows reformed themselves into a large spear.
"What...? How...?!" Hai Lao asked.
Amon chuckled. "Your disadvantage is that you have an affinity with the darkness elements. You can only blame your misfortune in your next life."
It took Hai Lao a short instant before he realized what was going on. He uttered, "You... It can’t be! Do you have the Law of Darkness?!"
"Find out for yourself!" Amon exclaimed as he threw the dark spear in his hand. The spear left a trail of sonic booms as it sped toward Hai Lao.
"Ugh!" Hai Lao shot to the side to evade. To his surprise, the spear chased after him.
"The spear is made of your darkness energy," Amon explained. "It still possesses your Law of Pursuit. What does it feel like to be a target of your own cultivation law for once?"
Hai Lao didn’t have the time to entertain Amon’s question. He was busy trying to stay alive by dodging the spear that refused to let him go.
"Bastard!" He cursed. He knew fleeing was not a solution when the attack chasing him was imbued with his Law of Pursuit. He stopped fleeing, turned around, and pulled his bow. He would destroy the dark spear with an attack of his own.
When he was about to release the bow string he had pulled, he was puzzled to see that the dark spear had suddenly stopped.
"Did you forget? That dark spear contains not only your law, but mine as well," Amon uttered.
Amon clenched his hand. The darkness energy contained within the spear detonated. Its position was near Hai Lao, so he was hit by the blast. He had channeled energy to protect himself, but the force of the blast threw him off balance.
Hai Lao sensed that Amon was coming, but he could do nothing. He had lost control of his body. Before he regained balance, Amon had crashed into him. Amon’s shining dagger sank deep into his chest.
"Hrghh...!!" He coughed up blood when he tried to speak.
Amon didn’t bother asking what Hai Lao was trying to say. He pulled his dagger while making a wide slicing motion. This resulted in a long, ripping wound in Hai Lao’s chest. Blood gushed out of it. Amon didn’t stop. He pulled the Xian Chain in the opposite direction. The Broken Justice returned to Hai Lao with a slashing motion. After it sliced past, Hai Lao’s body was split in two.
"Nooo...!! My son....!!!" Hai Di wailed upon seeing the scene.
"So, you can also feel hurt when the one you love is killed?" Amon asked. "Too bad I can’t make you do the deed yourself."
"Amon!! I will kill you!" Hai Di roared. His rage made him forget that he was being targeted by someone else.
Yao Ai used the chance to fire her Finger of Death. The thin light pierced Hai Di’s shadow armor and stabbed into his shoulder. The shadow armor softened the blow, but it stopped Hai Di’s movement. Yao Ai zoomed above him and delivered a wind cannon. The blast sent Hai Di crashing into the ground.
*
What happened to Hai Di didn’t escape Ling Dau’s gaze. He had six pairs of eyes, after all. He could observe all directions simultaneously.
He grunted. "Tch! What a troubling pet."
Dark fogs materialized around him. His huge body merged with the fog. He vanished as the fog blew forward, passing everyone.
"What?" Bo Wu was astounded. What Ling Dau had just done was similar to his Shadow Walk ability.
In shadow form, Ling Dau was intangible. He passed through obstacles without difficulty. No one could stop him. He only turned solid again after arriving near Yao Ai before she could finish Hai Di.
Yao Ai was startled to find Ling Dau suddenly near her. Ling Dau immediately attacked once he was tangible. Yao Ai used her movement art. Explosive winds pushed her away before Ling Dau’s jaws chomped on her. However, his other heads were already preparing to shoot blast breaths.
The blast breaths failed to hit Yao Ai, who moved in a random zig-zag pattern thanks to the explosive winds that kept throwing her off trajectory.
Ling Dau already counted on Yao Ai being capable enough to dodge his blast breaths. He used the same trick as when he dealt with the Cryanid King. His blast breaths collided, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed a wide area. Yao Ai couldn’t escape the blast.
Ling Dau landed on the ground, where Hai Di was struggling to stand up. He towered over the domain lord. Anyone who wished to get to Hai Di would have to go through him.
