Reborn in the 80s: The Smart Wife with a Secret Space Chapter 1220: Hidden Mysteries

A hundred meters into their journey, the cavern split into two paths.
Xinyan turned to Mr. Gu and asked, "Grandpa, which direction do we take?"
Mr. Gu studied the faded markings on the leather map for a moment before deciding, "Let's head left. From here on, it's all up to fate."
Their progress was short-lived as the path abruptly ended. However, a faint, flowing breeze could be felt, hinting at something more.
Both lightly tapped the stone walls on either side, finding no apparent irregularities. Xinyan, however, held a strong intuition that a hidden surprise lay nearby, especially given the subtle but detectable breeze.
Yet, after nearly an hour of searching, no mechanism was found. "Grandpa, let's try the other passage. Perhaps a surprise awaits us there," Xinyan suggested.
Mr. Gu conceded, "Very well."
They retraced their steps but didn't immediately enter the right passage. Instead, they paused to fashion two more torches from available materials before resuming their quest.
The right passage proved noticeably longer, eventually opening into a larger space at its terminus.
Xinyan's enhanced vision immediately pinpointed a concealed mechanism within the stone wall. "Grandpa, come here quickly!" she called out.
Hearing his granddaughter, Mr. Gu hurried over. "What have you found?"
Xinyan indicated a section of the rock face. "Do you notice how the color is slightly different from the surrounding area?"
Mr. Gu scrutinized the spot intently but remained clueless. "Grandpa really can't see it."
A thrill coursed through Xinyan. "Grandpa, it's like an eye test; there's a secret hidden here!"
Observing her intense focus, Mr. Gu retrieved a flashlight from his bag. "Perhaps it will be clearer with this."
But Xinyan was too absorbed, her gaze fixed on the wall. After a long pause, she finally took a deep breath, her voice filled with excitement, "Grandpa, it's done."
Mr. Gu looked bewildered. "What's done?"
Xinyan's face beamed with joy. "Grandpa, quickly search around and see if there's a mechanism!"
Despite the cavern's spaciousness, the rock walls were intricate, necessitating a division of their search. About half an hour later, Mr. Gu's shout echoed from beside a standing boulder. "Yanyan, come here quickly!"
Xinyan rushed to his side. "Grandpa, what did you discover?"
Mr. Gu pointed to the side of the stone. "Look behind it."
Leaning closer, Xinyan saw that the area behind the boulder was indeed special, having been meticulously treated. Even her sharp senses had missed the anomaly at first glance.
Fortunately, they had spotted the irregularity on the rock wall upon entering. She pressed the sequence of numbers she had seen earlier, and a groove formed where the digits had been.
After a thorough examination, she discreetly retrieved the jade pendants gifted by Grandpa and Liang Dahai from her space. She tested each pendant individually, but there was no response. Xinyan then clasped the two jade pendants together and inserted them once more.
Instantly, an entrance approximately two square meters in size slowly opened on the inner floor beneath the boulder.
Exchanging a wide-eyed glance, their hearts pounded with anticipation. What invaluable treasure had eluded so many seekers?
The suspense was palpable, but for their own safety, they did not immediately enter.
Half an hour passed before Mr. Gu ventured inside to scout.
Initially, Xinyan had intended to go first, but Mr. Gu objected. Given that the place had remained sealed for so long, numerous unknown dangers could lurk within.
Only after confirming the absence of immediate threats did he call out from the interior, "You can come in now."
Upon entering, however, they found no treasure hoard as they had imagined. Instead, it led to another passageway.
They proceeded forward for about two hundred meters until they encountered neatly stacked boxes.
Xinyan immediately recognized these boxes as identical to those she had discovered behind the Sanyuan Mechanical Factory, indirectly confirming the Gu family's ancestral treasures.
While the number of boxes was not overwhelming, there were certainly more than those found at the Mechanical Factory.
Retrieving gloves from her bag, Xinyan advised, "Grandpa, please wear these gloves. It's better to be safe than sorry."
Mr. Gu declined, gesturing to a nearby stone. "I'll rest there for a moment. You be careful."
Perhaps overcome by excitement, he felt a slight wave of dizziness, needing a moment to compose himself before examining the contents. After all, the Gu family had invested so much across generations in pursuit of these very items.
Concerned for his well-being, Xinyan checked his pulse. Reassured that his condition stemmed only from fatigue and nervousness, she said, "Then please rest for a while. I'll go take a look."
She handed him the water bottle from her backpack. "Drink some water."
Having seen her grandfather settled, she then pivoted her attention towards the waiting boxes.
