Chiang Xiao felt a wave of confusion. Why had he suddenly rushed out to borrow something at a time like this?
Was there truly something he needed that she didn't already have stored within her Space?
Despite her doubts, she followed his instructions after he explained and departed. She secured the door and headed in to take a shower.
When she finished and stepped out to unlock the door, she found Meng Xinian waiting there with an object in his hand, looking as though he had timed her shower to the very second.
Entering the room, he left the door slightly ajar before leaning toward her neck. He took a deep breath and whispered, "My Little really smells good."
In truth, Chiang Xiao had been carrying a custom-made sachet of dried flowers for quite a while to mask her natural scent, giving off a floral aroma. Her female classmates had even questioned if she was using some kind of imported soap.
However, since arriving here, she felt relaxed enough that she had stopped using the dried flowers to hide her fragrance.
This natural scent was Meng Xinian’s absolute favorite.
"What was it that you went to borrow?" Chiang Xiao inquired.
Leading her over to the sofa, Meng Xinian sat her down. "An almanac," he replied.
He presented the book to her as if it were a priceless treasure.
Chiang Xiao: "..."
What exactly was he plotting?
"It is time for us to select a wedding date," Meng Xinian declared through clenched teeth. "Chiang Xiaoxiao, mark my words—this time, I am picking the most auspicious day possible. I won't permit any more setbacks."
In his mind, Chiang Xiaoxiao should have become his wife a long time ago. He had spent years waiting and hoping for her to reach eighteen so they could wed, yet here they were, still merely engaged!
Engaged!
He was absolutely desperate to finally marry her.
"Had we married sooner, none of the messes we faced today would have happened. We are choosing the date ourselves," he insisted while flipping open the almanac. "Where should we start? We'll need time to organize the ceremony; is one month sufficient?"
Chiang Xiao found herself somewhat at a loss for words.
She spoke up bluntly, "You've got one thing wrong."
"Hmm?"
"Even if we were already married, these types of situations would still occur," Chiang Xiao huffed. "For a person who naturally draws attention, being married or single doesn't change much; they are going to attract notice regardless."
Meng Xinian shifted his focus from the almanac to her face. He leaned in closer, his gaze intense as he stared at her.
"What? Did I say something incorrect?"
"No, you're not wrong, but I'm just looking at Jiang Xiaoxiao’s face," Meng Xinian said, playfully pinching her soft cheek. "This face also seems like the type that attracts a lot of attention."
"Who have I attracted?" Chiang Xiao snapped at him. "I haven't attracted anyone..."
Meng Xinian immediately straightened his posture and held up five fingers, looking ready to list them out properly.
"No one? Shall we do a count? Let me think," he mused. "First, back in Peace Town’s Siyang Village—that Ji Desheng. Didn't they say a brat in your village pushed you into the Nameless Creek because she was jealous over that Ji Desheng?"
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Chiang Xiao nearly choked on her own breath.
Tyrant Meng was truly something else! How could he bring that up so suddenly? That was years ago!
Furthermore, they hadn't even met each other back then!
"That Ji Desheng had feelings for you, didn't he?" Meng Xinian shot her a look before moving on. "And then there’s another one. When you were in high school, there was that boy who transferred in from Province N. What was his name again?"
"Xi Minghui?"
The name slipped out of Chiang Xiao’s mouth instinctively. The moment she said it, she realized her mistake. She quickly clamped her hand over her mouth, blinking at Meng Xinian with an innocent expression.
