Raising My Trash Ability into a Broken SSS+ Rank Skill Chapter 622 Upgrade?

Previously on Raising My Trash Ability into a Broken SSS+ Rank Skill...
Vritra and his wives, along with Shitless and Onest, prepared to enter the third game on planet Argento, a world resembling a frozen Earth where their powers would be sealed to ordinary human levels. Divine warned them to conceal their strength, avoid death at all costs, eliminate rivals from Argento, and reach the central tower amid mutant threats and untrustworthy participants. Transported into a looted apartment amid disintegrating corpses, the group scavenged basic weapons like pipes and bats while awakening to the harsh cold and a grotesque mutant peering through the window. Spotting bloody footprints and a hulking zombie in the hallway, Vritra assessed the dangers ahead, reminded that strength would grow only through slaying mutants.

[Name]: Vritra Arclis

[Species]: Human

[Mutation Progress]: 0/100 (Unawakened)

[Stats]

(Strength: 1.1)

(Agility: 1.2)

(Endurance: 1.2)

(Spiritual: 1.2)

{Note: 1 stat is average.}

Much to Vritra's astonishment, the status panel suddenly appeared. He scanned through it and felt a wave of surprise.

'Human? The folks around here are humans as well—wait, have I turned into one too? Regardless, it looks like I need to boost my stats somehow.' He pondered inwardly before voicing his command.

"Check your status panels."

They had overlooked that detail entirely. Vritra glanced out once more, curious if he might view the mutant's stats too.

[Stats]

(Strength: 7.7)

(Agility: 5.0)

(Endurance: 7.8)

(Spiritual: 1.0)

"That mutant boasts nearly eight times the strength and toughness, plus it's quicker on its feet. Taking it down seems utterly impossible." Vritra concluded.

He hadn't yet grasped the full scale of power gaps from these stats.

Yet without a single ability at his disposal, slaying it bordered on the impossible.

Next, his eyes shifted to the sole shut door amid the three other apartments, and Divine's warning echoed in his thoughts.

'Get as ruthless as you can—mutants aren't the sole threat lurking here.'

Surveying the floor stained with bloody tracks, it was obvious the occupants had slain and ransacked before.

Thus, all traces of doubt vanished from his mind in an instant.

Vritra seized Vanessa's weapon, a shattered iron rod.

"Honey, what do you have in mind?" Vanessa inquired, her voice laced with concern. At the moment, they were powerless to act.

Their stats hovered mostly below 1.

"Just experimenting a bit." Vritra gripped the baseball bat and rod together in one hand, then snatched a splintered table leg.

With that, he swung the door open anew.

After a quick scan to confirm the shadowy hallway held no other threats, he hurled the wooden leg away from the mutant's position.

Swiftly, he slammed the door shut.

Vritra held his breath, listening intently, but no additional noises followed. Apparently, the mutant ignored sounds like that.

Letting out a shaky sigh of relief, he cracked the door open and crept toward the sealed entrance ahead.

Within the neighboring apartment, four rugged men, marred by numerous gashes, lounged on the floor, savoring their rice.

"Damn it, Lukas, you shouldn't have offed her so fast—we could've enjoyed ourselves first." The bandana-wearing man grumbled. It had been ages since they'd tasted rice.

"That old hag? You serious?"

Lukas, appearing the youngest of the bunch, retorted with clear revulsion.

"Aw, come on, desperate times call for desperate measures. When's the last time we even spotted a woman? Hell, we're fortunate to uncover rice and other survivors in this dump."

A third man chimed in, heaving a regretful sigh.

"That's beside the point—we need to slip out without drawing that grinning bastard's attention. That thing's a nightmare of a mutant."

The remaining man interjected, shuddering at the memory of laying eyes on it.

Luckily, that mutant lacked keen hearing, or they'd be goners already.

"Let's wrap this up fast and bail. I'll activate my stealth skill to mask our presence—"

Midway through Lukas's words, a clatter echoed from the far end of the corridor.

"What the hell was that?" The bandana man scowled, and abruptly

KNOCK KNOCK

Frantic raps pounded on the door, followed by a desperate plea.

"P-Please, help me out! I'm begging you, let me in—that monstrous jerk's about to finish me off…" A young woman's sobs filled the air.

Alerted, the four exchanged glances, their eyes gleaming with obvious desire.

"I'm claiming her first—you lot can wait your turn!" The eldest leaped to his feet without warning.

However, the bandana man, empowered by his mutation that amplified his physical prowess to a stat of 5, shoved him aside effortlessly.

"Fat chance—I'll go first. You'll all line up after me, hehe. Just warning you, I won't wrap things up in a couple hours."

The bandana man grinned, his facial scars twisting grotesquely.

"Hah, she'll hardly be breathing once you're through—you're way too rough." The fourth man shook his head in resignation.

Still, none could best him in combat, leaving them helpless.

Chuckling softly, the bandana man neared the door, but paused to verify safety before unlocking it.

Mutants came in all varieties, after all.

Squinting through the peephole with one eye, he spotted only a bald fellow by the door across the hall—and no sign of any woman.

In that instant, Vritra, concealed beside the entrance, thrust the metal rod straight through the peephole.

BANG

SWISH

The rod speared into the bandana man's eye, eliciting an immediate howl of torment, though Vritra missed the kill as the man recoiled sharply.

"What happened?" Lukas and the others sprang up, horrified by the gruesome sight of his mangled face.

His eye had vanished entirely.

"Ughh, FUCK!! Those scum—they're ambushing us!!" The bandana man bellowed in fury, his mind ablaze with murderous rage.

Overwhelmed by vengeful fury, the quartet cast aside all caution. Daring to strike them? They flung the door wide and charged out.

Vritra spun on his heel and bolted toward the far apartment, but just before darting inside, he lobbed a wooden leg at the mutant.

BANG

The piece struck the mutant squarely on the skull, causing it to jerk and snarl.

By the time the mutant whirled around, Vritra had secured the door and barricaded it with hefty furnishings.

Everyone retreated hastily.

Precisely then, the adjacent door burst open as the four stormed forth, primed to slaughter their attackers.

"W-Wait, something's off—I sense danger…" The eldest suddenly clutched his head, his peril-detection ability flaring up.

GRAAARRRR!!

Lukas, the bandana man, and the pair froze mere steps from their threshold, chilled by the bone-rattling roar that stiffened their limbs.

"F-Fuck, we've been duped!!"

Realization dawned, but far too late. They scrambled back inside, only for the mutant to rip the door apart with ease.

Heart racing and breaths ragged, Vritra caught the cacophony of the beast shredding flesh and bone.

The men's panicked cries echoed briefly before silence fell once more.

Shortly, the grotesque munching of the mutant devouring human remains filled the air.

Before long, sated from the grisly meal, the mutant lumbered off, abandoning the ravaged bodies amid a thick reek of gore.

Vritra lingered a moment longer before easing up slightly.

"Haa, it's headed downstairs now." He murmured softly.

His wives wore somber faces. How could they confront horrors like that when others had surged so far in their evolution?

"Stay put— we'll scout that spot. No threats left, probably.

Though the blood aroma could lure mutants back any second." Vritra announced, stepping out with Shitless and Onest trailing him.

Upon entering the rival apartment, horror twisted their features.

The four bodies sprawled in mangled heaps, entrails scattered everywhere.

"…Quick, rummage through it all." He urged, approaching one of the less damaged remains.

Dropping to his knees, he examined the body for any valuable items on the deceased.

Yet as his fingers brushed the corpse, a barrage of notifications flooded his vision.

[A mutant corpse has been detected!]

[You have acquired the Divine Sin Wheel!]
