A woman named Xu Qing finds herself transmigrated into a dilapidated hut, moments away from giving birth. The original body's owner had tragically died from exhaustion after childbirth, but Xu Qing, a former doctor, must now deliver the third baby herself to survive. A traveling old doctor arrives and, initially skeptical, assists Xu Qing in delivering a baby girl, though the infant is not breathing.

“Hand over the child!” Xu Qing’s hands shook as she forced herself upright. With tear-filled eyes, she extended her trembling hands. She laced her index and middle fingers together, using four fingers to perform cardiac resuscitation on the little girl's chest. Carefully controlling her strength, she administered CPR once, twice… ten times, twenty times…

Droplets of sweat, like beans, continuously fell onto the baby's face. The old man watched, utterly astonished!

“Cough, cough, waaa…”

Suddenly, the baby stirred and cried out. Though weak, she was undeniably alive!

Xu Qing could bear it no longer. Her taut nerves finally gave way, and she collapsed onto the old straw bed, losing consciousness.

The old man, having witnessed the entire event, decided to remain. He was eager to ascertain how this woman had managed to reposition the fetus and save the infant. Most expectant mothers faced perilous births, and if her technique could be widely adopted, it would undoubtedly save countless lives.

He felt a surge of gladness that he had traveled so far. This presented a monumental advancement for his medical expertise. He hurried forward to take her pulse, determined to do everything he could to save her. At that moment, a cry echoed from beyond the doorway.

“Little Qing, my daughter…” A middle-aged woman, clad in mended clothes, rushed in, her face streaked with tears.

“Qu Feng, cease your crying. Your daughter has at least given birth to two sons…” the old woman accompanying Madam Xu said with an expression of sorrow. She was the midwife who had just stepped out.

Upon realizing Xu Qing was no longer breathing, Granny Song had gone to seek assistance. It was truly a pity. Qu Feng and her daughter, Xu Qing, were noble individuals, yet misfortune seemed to follow them relentlessly.

“Who are you? Why is there another child here? She… she actually gave birth…” Granny Song stared at the last-born baby girl, dumbfounded. Her gaze shifted to the old man, whose hands were stained with blood as he held Xu Qing's hand, and her heart lurched. Could he be a cannibal?

“What are you doing?” Qu Feng wailed with grief, shocked by the scene unfolding in the room.

As they watched, astonished, the old man continued to diligently take Xu Qing's pulse. Under Qu Feng's anxious and bewildered eyes, he slowly stated, “I am a physician. I happened upon this place and rendered aid. She suffered significant blood loss and delivered triplets. She is exhausted and unconscious, her body exceedingly frail. I shall write a prescription for several medicinal herbs. Please prepare them and ensure she drinks the decoction.”

Having survived the birth of these three children, she had narrowly escaped death. The old man felt her pulse and deduced that future childbirths would likely be exceedingly difficult for her. However, he kept this assessment to himself. He harbored a premonition that this young village girl possessed an unconventional resilience…

“Thank you, Doctor.” Qu Feng, after a moment of stunned silence, expressed her gratitude with palpable excitement. Having resided in a small village her entire life, she had never encountered influential figures. Nevertheless, observing the man's fine attire, his white hair, and the utmost seriousness with which he examined her, she readily accepted his words. However, upon receiving the prescription, though unfamiliar with many of the herbs, she recognized ginseng and deer antler among them. Her face instantly turned ashen. “Doctor… how much will the medicine cost?”

The old man hesitated. “Approximately ten thousand.”

“Ten thousand?” Qu Feng gasped. A single bottle of medicine costing ten thousand? Given Xu Qing's condition, a solitary bottle would be insufficient for recovery. Even one hundred thousand might not suffice! This sum represented an astronomical figure for the impoverished Qu Feng. The hand gripping the prescription trembled incessantly. “Doctor, could you perhaps prescribe some less expensive remedies?”

“Absolutely not!” the old man declared firmly. Ordinary medicine, he implied, would be incapable of saving a life.

Granny Song, standing nearby, sighed helplessly. It appeared Xu Qing's survival was unlikely. “Qu Feng, let it be… We still have three children to raise…” She had already cleaned the three infants and could only swaddle them in rags. Their pitiable state was heartbreaking.

Qu Feng glanced at the frail infants, then at the unconscious Xu Qing. Her eyes welled with tears. What was she to do? She had no money on hand; how could she possibly save her daughter? Approaching the Xu family for funds would be futile; they possessed neither the means nor the willingness. Furthermore, her daughter had been cast out by the Xu family, making any plea for their help improbable…

Just as Qu Feng stood in a state of indecision,

“Take this money. Go and procure the medicine first,” the old man offered, handing Qu Feng a wad of cash.

“Doctor… how shall we ever repay you…” Qu Feng, utterly astonished, dared not accept the money.

“I do not save those beyond hope!” he stated. Setting aside his personal desire to discuss medical theories with her, having intervened, he could not stand by and watch her perish. To do so would tarnish his reputation, would it not?”

Qu Feng felt a surge of gratitude and didn't hesitate, hurrying off to fetch the medicine. Granny Song departed as well, realizing there was little for her to do by staying. The family's plight was truly heart-wrenching, and she decided to forgo the payment for her delivery services.
