SHING!
The swords of light flew forward one after another. They cut through the incoming attacks and continued toward the mages behind them.
The combined spells were broken apart in an instant. The light swords continued moving through the formation and struck the mages one after another, forcing them to collapse across the chamber. Edrin stared at the hovering light swords in disbelief. His eyes widened as a name suddenly flashed through his mind.
"ETHHAAANN..."
BOOM!
Before he could finish his sentence, a figure flashed before his eyes. All he saw was a dazzling blur of white light. Edrin immediately activated a barrier around his body, but…
CRACK!
The barrier was torn apart.
His eyes widened in shock as the force passed through his defense. The next moment, he felt a powerful force press against his body. A sharp jolt of pain struck his torso and moved through his body, and for a moment, everything around him became a blur.
Then the world returned to normal. Edrin felt a stabbing pain below, and he slowly lowered his eyes. A sword was buried in his gut. His breathing became heavy as he raised his chin and saw a white haired youth standing before him.
"Ethan..." he gritted his teeth, blood spilling from his mouth.
Ethan looked at him calmly. "What Ethan? Am I your dog?"
Edrin's expression changed, but before he could say anything, Ethan snorted and kicked him away. "Call me Lord or Sir Ethan." Edrin's body was sent flying across the chamber and crashed heavily against the ground.
Ethan stood in front of the huge magic circle and carefully studied the structure around him.
The countless lines of energy were still glowing, and the mana was continuously flowing through the formations. He slowly moved his eyes across the entire structure while trying to find a way to break the nodes and stop the barrier.
After a brief study, Ethan's expression became serious.
He soon understood that simply disrupting the magic circle would not work. Once the barrier was already operating, the energy would continue flowing through the other pathways. Even if he destroyed one part of the magic circle, the barrier would still keep operating.
Ethan frowned and looked toward the large pillars connected to the formation.
He finally understood where the real problem was.
The pillars were acting as conduits for the energy. They were connected to the magic circles and were responsible for sending the energy throughout the barrier. As long as the pillars continued working, the barrier could continue operating even if some parts of the formation were damaged.
Ethan slowly walked closer and looked at them.
There were twenty pillars in total.
He counted them carefully and then looked at the entire structure again.
Destroying one or two pillars would not be enough. The remaining pillars could continue supplying the energy, and the barrier would simply keep running.
Ethan's eyes narrowed.
It seemed that he would have to destroy them one after another.
Maybe he would have to destroy all twenty.
He stood there for a moment while studying the structure again. The more he looked at it, the more surprised he became. The design was much more complicated than he had expected, and every part had been carefully connected to another.
Ethan slowly raised his head with a shocked expression.
"Is this really something a family can carve?"
He looked around the huge underground chamber.
"If not for seeing this, I hadn't thought something like this existed."
The grand structure before him was even better than the blueprint provided by the system. The people who had created it had clearly spent a huge amount of time and resources to build something like this.
Ethan remained silent for a while before taking a slow breath.
He had thought he had already seen enough powerful things, but this once again reminded him that there were always people capable of creating something beyond his expectations.
Truly, there are mountains above mountains, and one cannot be complacent.
Ethan finally turned his attention toward the first pillar.
If destroying the magic circle would not work, then he would simply destroy the pillars that kept it running.
His eyes became firm.
"Let's start with the first one."
Ethan looked around the underground chamber and quickly located the nearest pillar. It stood a short distance away from the main formation, with countless lines of glowing energy connected to its base.
Mana was constantly flowing through it, and the light around the pillar showed that it was one of the main points supporting the barrier.
Ethan raised his hand and several swords of light appeared around him. He did not send them forward immediately. Instead, he focused his attention on the pillar and slowly gathered the swords together. The light swords moved closer to one another, and their bright glow became stronger as their power continued to gather.
Ethan's eyes narrowed as he pointed toward the pillar.
"Attack."
The swords of light suddenly moved.
SHING!
They flew through the air at incredible speed and headed straight toward the pillar. Their sharp light cut through the air as they gathered together, and their combined power was aimed at one single point.
BOOM!
The swords struck the pillar with devastating might.
But in the next instant, something completely beyond Ethan's expectation happened.
He had expected a loud blast. He thought the pillar would crack or perhaps the entire underground chamber would shake from the impact.
Instead, just before the swords could properly strike the pillar, a flash of light suddenly erupted from its surface.
FLASH!
A thin layer of light appeared around the pillar.
The swords of light struck against it.
CLANG!
Rather than piercing through the defense, every sword was suddenly deflected. They were sent flying in different directions and struck the nearby walls and floor.
Ethan's eyes widened.
"Whattt!"
He stared at the pillar in disbelief.
The light around it slowly faded, but the pillar remained completely unharmed.
Ethan slowly lowered his hand and looked at the structure again.
He had not expected the pillar itself to have a defensive mechanism. His expression became serious as he stepped closer and carefully observed it.
"This is getting troublesome."
He looked at the other pillars and then back at the first one.
It seemed that destroying them would not be as simple as he had thought.
