The four great families learn of an attack on the city wall and the appearance of a powerful unknown figure. Suspecting an enemy move, the family heads—Cedric, Valen, Garrick, and Dorian—activate their communication crystals to discuss the situation. They decide to take the initiative and confront the intruders, deploying their hidden forces. Meanwhile, Ethan interrogates guards on the wall about how to disable the barrier, eventually learning it's controlled by pillars underground. He then violently breaches the underground control center and begins destroying the pillars powering the barrier.

Deep beneath the city walls, a large underground chamber was filled with countless magic circles. Mages stood around the formations and carefully controlled the flow of mana through them. Their faces were serious as they continued maintaining the huge spell array that kept the barrier around the Imperial Capital active.

Large piles of mana stones were placed around the chamber. Some had already lost most of their light, while others were being replaced by servants and mages whenever their mana became too low. The amount of mana being consumed was enormous, and the constant operation of the barrier required a steady supply of both mana stones and skilled magicians.

At the center of the chamber stood a huge core structure that connected all the magic circles together. Lines of light continuously moved through it and spread toward the pillars buried beneath the city walls.

The entire system was overseen by a Saint Rank Magician named Edrin Valmont.

He stood before the core structure with his hands behind his back and carefully watched the flow of mana. Every change in the formation had to be observed because even a small mistake could affect the barrier.

Edrin slowly frowned as he looked at the mana stones being consumed one after another.

"I hope the Family Head appears sooner. Even if we can keep the barrier for so long, this is simply a waste of resources and material."

He sighed and rubbed his forehead.

They could maintain the barrier for some time, but the amount of resources being consumed was far too high. The longer the barrier remained active, the more mana stones they would have to sacrifice.

Just as Edrin turned his attention back toward the core, a strange banging sound suddenly echoed through the chamber.

BANG!

Edrin froze.

"Huh?"

He slowly raised his head and looked around.

"Where is this sound coming from?"

The mages nearby also stopped for a moment and looked toward the walls. Some exchanged confused glances while others continued watching the magic circles.

Edrin's brows tightened.

For a moment, everything became quiet again.

Then another loud sound suddenly echoed through the chamber.

BANGGG!

The entire underground room shook slightly.

Several mages looked upward in alarm.

"What is happening?"

"Did something happen outside?"

Edrin stared at the ceiling.

Question marks seemed to appear across his face as he tried to understand where the sound was coming from.

Then the ceiling suddenly cracked.

CRACK!

A large section of stone broke apart and collapsed downward.

The mages immediately stepped back in panic as dust and pieces of stone fell from above.

BOOM!

The ceiling was completely smashed open.

A figure dropped through the opening and landed heavily in the middle of the chamber.

The impact shook the floor beneath everyone's feet.

As the dust slowly cleared, the mages stared at the man standing among the broken stones.

Edrin stared at Ethan for a moment, and his face quickly turned serious.

He raised his hand and pointed toward the intruder.

"Attack!"

The mages immediately reacted to his command. Magic circles around the chamber lit up one after another, and several attacks burst out at the same time. Blades of wind, spears of fire and waves of magic energy flew toward Ethan from different directions, and every attack locked onto his position.

The entire chamber lit up from the combined attacks, and the sound of magic filled the underground room. But just before they reached Ethan, a barrier suddenly appeared around him.

It completely covered his body and blocked the attacks.

"I know how to cast barriers too."Ethan chuckled and stepped through the barrage.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The attacks struck the barrier one after another, but Ethan remained standing inside without moving.

Edrin's eyes widened. "What?"

Ethan slowly raised his hands.

Then he moved his hands and feet, and the next moment, a powerful shockwave suddenly burst out from his body.

BOOOOM!

The force spread across the entire chamber and struck everything around him.

The mages standing closest to Ethan were struck first. Their bodies were lifted from the ground and thrown away as if they weighed nothing. Some crashed into the walls, while others rolled across the floor and slammed into the magic formations. The mages below Emperor Rank were directly blown away like rag dolls, and their bodies flew through the air before crashing down here and there.

Even the stronger mages were forced backward. Edrin quickly steadied himself and looked around the chamber. His face became grim as he saw his people scattered across the floor.

He tightened his fist and shouted, "Don't panic! Mage Corps, take charge!"

The remaining mages quickly gathered together. Edrin knew that attacking Ethan separately would not work, so he immediately ordered them to combine their strength. The mages formed several groups and activated their magic circles at the same time.

A series of powerful attacks appeared in the air as they prepared to strike Ethan together.

Fire gathered into a large beast, wind formed sharp blades and earth rose from the ground like huge pillars. Several other spells followed from behind, and the attacks moved together toward Ethan. It was a skilled combination, and the mages had clearly trained together for years. Every attack was timed carefully with the others.

But Ethan simply raised his hand. Light gathered around him, and one sword appeared.

Then another.

SHING!

The swords of light flew forward one after another. They cut through the incoming attacks and continued toward the mages behind them.

The combined spells were broken apart in an instant. The light swords continued moving through the formation and struck the mages one after another, forcing them to collapse across the chamber. Edrin stared at the hovering light swords in disbelief. His eyes widened as a name suddenly flashed through his mind.

"ETHHAAANN..."

BOOM!

Before he could finish his sentence, a figure flashed before his eyes. All he saw was a dazzling blur of white light. Edrin immediately activated a barrier around his body, but…

CRACK!

The barrier was torn apart.
