My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser Chapter 1461: The End (4)

"Ahhh!!!" A scream of pure agony resonated through Duan He’s private quarters within the Blood Moon Sect.
She clutched her chest tightly as crimson blood sprayed from her lips. Collapsed on the floor with her knees dug into the ground, Duan He struggled to draw breath.
The reality was impossible to accept... she simply could not believe it. How had this occurred? How could every single one of the pillars she had painstakingly cultivated be dead?
"Argh... someone... is anyone there?" Duan He managed to rasp out. Her sight grew increasingly dim as she peered toward the chamber entrance.
She attempted to drag herself toward the door, but her limbs refused to obey. Even now, having tumbled from her bed, Duan He felt as though the entire half of her frame had been shattered.
Concealed behind the doors, Shen Yu remained out of sight. Witnessing Duan He’s pathetic state, she didn't dare set foot inside the room.
'How did things spiral to this point?' Shen Yu’s thumb was pressed against her teeth, biting her nail in a fit of trembling anxiety.
Her sole reason for joining this Sect was to coerce Gu Chenyi into a marriage. However, looking at Duan He’s current condition, Shen Yu was certain that disaster was the only thing awaiting her.
Forget the prospect of marrying Gu Chenyi—she might not even survive the night!
Her own avarice had turned the Gu Sect into a mortal enemy. Shen Yu had been in such a rush to wed Gu Chenyi and transform the Gu Sect into a puppet under her control.
But now, what was left!
Shen Yu cast a venomous glare at Duan He, wishing she could personally end the woman for making such hollow vows. Yet, she understood that indulging in such useless spite was a waste of time.
Survival had to be her first priority!
Abandoning Duan He to her fate, Shen Yu bolted from the inner chambers of the Sect. She sprinted toward the storage vaults first, looting various potions, pills, and enchanted weapons, shoving them all into her space ring.
Only then did Shen Yu flee the Sect grounds. However, she hadn't even cleared three blocks before an invisible surge of power struck her, lifting her off her feet and sending her hurtling through the air.
"Ahhh!" Shen Yu shrieked in a mix of terror and pain as her back slammed into a building’s stone wall, the impact radiating agony through her entire frame.
It felt as though her spine had snapped.
Shen Yu lifted her head, squinting at the silhouette of a man framed by the moonlight. Her pupils shrank in shock when she recognized him as none other than Gu Chenyi.
How? How had he arrived so quickly?
"Gu—Chenyi?" Shen Yu wheezed as she forced herself upright. She watched the man approach, her lips quivering. She scrambled to her feet, desperately trying to project an air of composure, though she failed miserably.
Gu Chenyi offered her a smile, but the expression struck an inexplicable chord of dread in Shen Yu’s heart. "Did you enjoy yourself, Shen Yu?" Gu Chenyi questioned. He summoned a fresh talisman and flung it toward her. Though she tried to evade it, her injuries slowed her down, and the strike landed true.
"Ah!" Shen Yu cried out. Her eyes burned with resentment as she glared at him. "If you kill me, your grandfather will never forgive you!"
Gu Chenyi actually laughed at her words, tears of mockery forming in his eyes. He sneered, "You are quite bold to think I ever sought his forgiveness."
His gaze turned frigid as he continued, "I did care for him once, but that final spark of emotion died when he chose to hide your schemes from me."
Shen Yu’s complexion turned ghostly pale as the realization hit her: Gu Chenyi was aware of everything!
Meanwhile, Song Yan stood before the gates of the Blood Moon Sect. She looked over at Fu Yu Sheng, who was holding her hand, and whispered, "I’ll return shortly."
Even though Fu Yu Sheng was well aware that Song Yan’s power had surged after her centuries of Cultivation as a ghost, he couldn't help but worry.
He tightened his grip on her hand and asked, "Do you promise?"
He was reluctant to release her, yet he knew he must.
Song Yan smiled at his concern. Turning toward him, she pulled him into a firm embrace. "Of course. Don't forget, I used the last of my strength to place a curse on Duan He. If she has survived this long, it was only because of the pillars she raised. Now that Master Gu has helped eliminate them—she is powerless."
"In the past, her only advantage was having my life in her grasp," Song Yan said, pulling back to gently cup Fu Yu Sheng’s face. "But my life is mine again... nothing can hold me back now."
Hearing this, Fu Yu Sheng finally smiled. He leaned in, pressing his forehead against hers, and vowed, "I will always stand by your side."
With those words, Fu Yu Sheng retreated a few steps and summoned Xiao Bai. He mounted the head of the massive spiritual snake. Song Yan watched as the two of them soared toward the protective arrays of the Sect, the barriers shattering instantly under Xiao Bai’s overwhelming spiritual aura.
Song Yan’s eyes gleamed with pride as she watched her husband lead the charge like a commanding general. He looked truly magnificent!
"Then, let us begin..." Song Yan summoned Fang Yanli and the rest of her followers before charging into the heart of the Sect.
"No... no... no..." Duan He hissed as she struggled to her feet. Ignoring the agonizing pain racking her body, she forced herself forward. She stumbled and collided with furniture as she dragged her broken form out of the bedchambers.
Her legs shook violently as she navigated the twisting hallways, finally coming to a halt at the top of the Sect’s grand staircase.
Though her sight was failing, she could make out a woman in a black dress standing midway up the stairs. Surrounding her were numerous ghosts, currently dismantling the evil spirits Duan He had spent years refining as her thralls.
The moonlight illuminated the woman’s silhouette, and Duan He felt her pupils throb. She had returned! She was actually here!
Duan He forced her trembling hands to move, hurling a talisman at Song Yan. It was a high-level S-grade dark talisman, yet Song Yan—who had progressed through the thirteenth and fourteenth levels of Cultivation and now stood at the threshold of the fifteenth—dodged it with ease.
Song Yan countered by drawing her own S-grade talisman and launching it at Duan He.
In contrast to Song Yan, who had Fu Yu Sheng as her husband and dual Cultivation partner, Duan He was utterly alone. The pillars that had anchored her soul were gone, leaving her in a state of near-death.
"Argh!" Duan He was sent flying backward, her body crashing into a large pillar painted in deep red.
A torrent of blood escaped her mouth as she glared at Song Yan. Even with her eyes clouded and turning milky white, the sheer intensity of her malice remained visible.
Duan He summoned her familiar—an entity that was a perfect replica of Song Yan.
Seeing this, Song Yan summoned her own familiar in response. However, compared to Duan He’s imitation, hers was the genuine article.
The woman in red shattered the fake familiar into fragments with a single sword strike, sending another wave of backlash through Duan He’s body.
"Dear sister," Song Yan said, her footsteps steady as she closed the distance between them. "No matter your efforts, you can never truly be me. Even if a thousand years passed, you would remain the same—arrogant, pathetic, and utterly helpless."
Duan He coughed up more blood. She lifted her head to look at Song Yan. Eons ago, it was she who had looked down upon Song Yan, but now the roles were reversed.
"I hate you... I have always loathed you... why did you get everything?" Duan He’s vision was gone, but her voice was thick with venom. "Father always favored you. Even the man I loved chose you over me... I only wanted to be loved—and you took it all."
"...You sought a specific kind of love from people who already cared for you," Song Yan replied calmly. "They loved you as family, but you demanded to be their only focus."
"That was an impossibility, for you were not an only child."
"But you should know, Little He... despite your greed and malice, I truly did love you."
Duan He fell silent at Song Yan’s confession, but a moment later, she erupted into hysterical laughter.
"I hate you! I will hate you forever! Even in death, I will hate you! No matter what happens, I will hate you!" Yet, as she screamed those words, her eyes turned bloodshot and tears began to stream down her face.
And then—
Duan He took her final breath.
