My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser Chapter 1455: Staying at the Lin family
Previously on My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser...
I must offer my apologies for the previous confusion regarding the family tree. Director Lin and Lin Wei are actually cousins, rather than uncle and nephew.

Song Yan shifted her gaze toward Director Lin and inquired, "I requested that you look into your aunt's history. Director Lin, did your investigation yield any results concerning those past events?"
Director Lin was currently struggling to process the revelation that his cousins had been betrayed by their own partners. Furthermore, the shock that Ruan Bei—someone they had long honored and cherished as a senior—was the mastermind behind these schemes left him dazed. He snapped out of it only when he heard Song Yan’s voice.
He looked up, blinking rapidly before giving a firm nod. Director Lin answered, "I did... I looked into it, and I stumbled upon something quite unsettling."
"What did you find?" Song Yan asked with composure. She had anticipated that uncovering Madam Lin’s ties to malevolent spirits would be straightforward, primarily because Madam Lin likely never imagined anyone would scrutinize her history.
"There was a particular personal assistant who became very close to my aunt," Director Lin explained, choosing to disclose every detail to Song Yan without reservation.
It was revealed that Madam Lin frequently provided for orphans, and her young assistant happened to be one of them. This girl, named Su Jun, had been discarded by her biological parents because they desired a son and she was born a girl.
Moved by the story of the girl’s abandonment, Madam Lin took Su Jun under her wing and provided financial sponsorship. From the age of eleven until she turned twenty-one, Su Jun was raised under Madam Lin’s care.
For all intents and purposes, she was treated as Madam Lin’s own daughter. For a long time, everything seemed perfect...
However—
"This girl began to exhibit an extreme, obsessive possessiveness toward my aunt," Director Lin told Song Yan. As he spoke, a look of deep discomfort crossed his face.
"Isn't that fairly common?" Jun Yue asked, tilting her head in confusion. "Don't all children feel some level of possessiveness regarding their parents?"
As a mother herself, Jun Yue recalled how her own sons, though now grown and living apart from her and her husband, were once clingy children. She understood well how young children could become fiercely protective of their parents' affection.
Her second son had been exactly like that.
"You don't quite grasp the situation," Director Lin replied, shaking his head with a heavy sigh. "When I describe her as possessive... I'm not talking about a child's simple jealousy. Her behavior was truly disturbing and, at times, downright sadistic."
Director Lin proceeded to share specific incidents with Song Yan. He recounted a time when Lin Sui fell ill as a young child of about four or five, while Su Jun was already sixteen.
At that age, a teenager should fundamentally understand right from wrong, but Su Jun was a different case entirely.
She grew resentful of the exclusive attention Madam Lin gave to the sick Lin Sui. She attempted to lure Madam Lin away several times, but as Lin Sui’s mother, Madam Lin refused to abandon her daughter’s bedside.
She simply told Su Jun to be patient and to stop interrupting.
The girl appeared to comply without a word at the time, but—
Three days later, the household discovered Lin Sui’s pet cat hanging from the rafters. The scene was gruesome; the animal had been skinned and suffered numerous stab wounds. Had it not been for the collar around its neck, the family wouldn't have even recognized it as Lin Sui's pet.
Jun Yue let out a sharp gasp of horror, while Song Yan’s gaze turned cold and sharp.
"Was the girl held accountable?" Jun Yue demanded.
She believed such a vicious child deserved severe punishment, yet Director Lin shook his head in disappointment. He answered, "She wasn't. The girl had a flawless alibi proving she was elsewhere. Even though Little Sui was certain it was her, there was no evidence to back it up."
He then detailed another incident involving Madam Lin’s late husband. He had planned a private hot spring getaway for just the two of them. However, on the eve of their departure, he suffered a fall in the bathroom that resulted in a broken spine.
Another time, Madam Lin’s late son had innocently requested a homemade cake. Being a doting mother, she made one, only for the family to discover a rotting, dead rat baked inside the batter.
The situation escalated further when Lin Wei was involved in a car accident caused by tampered brakes. Fortunately, Lin Wei was cautious and had a dash cam installed.
The footage clearly showed Su Jun sabotaging the vehicle.
"But she was still a minor then... just six months shy of eighteen," Director Lin sighed, rubbing his temples. The mere memory of that girl caused him to break into a cold sweat.
Furthermore, because Lin Wei was also a teenager driving at the time, the family chose not to involve the authorities or go public.
Since Director Lin’s aunt and grandmother were never on good terms, he had been kept in the dark about these family secrets.
He was only learning the full extent of it now.
"Eventually, my aunt could no longer tolerate Su Jun's horrifying behavior. Recognizing the girl was mentally unstable, she had her committed to an asylum in hopes of treatment. But just a few days after she arrived... a fire broke out."
"The entire facility was reduced to ashes. Tragically, over a hundred patients perished in the flames, and Su Jun was among the dead..."
Song Yan finally grasped the motivation behind Madam Lin’s actions. The woman had been desperate enough to summon Su Jun’s demonic spirit because she was consumed by the guilt of the girl's death.
'However, I am nearly certain that fire was no accident...' Song Yan thought, her eyes narrowing. She then spoke aloud, "Director Lin, this is just a hunch, but could you investigate further? See if you can find any record of Ruan Bei visiting or meeting with Su Jun."
"I have a strong suspicion that the asylum fire was intentionally set."
Considering Su Jun’s obsession with Madam Lin, Ruan Bei would have found it incredibly easy to manipulate and pull the strings of such a girl.
The faces of Director Lin and Jun Yue turned pale at Song Yan's suggestion. The couple exchanged looks of pure shock and growing suspicion. If Ruan Bei had actually incited a mentally ill girl to burn down an asylum, her cruelty was beyond comprehension.
Director Lin spoke up immediately, "Don't worry, Yan Yan. I'll get to the bottom of this."
Song Yan nodded, resolving to also have Fu Yu Sheng look into the matter.
She needed to confirm if Ruan Bei was responsible for such a massive loss of life. If her theory proved correct, it would perfectly explain the overwhelming darkness of Ruan Bei’s aura.
The gravity of the situation was felt by everyone in the room.
Song Yan then turned to Jun Yue and said, "Sister-in-law, I'll be staying the night here. I hope it's not too much trouble to ask for a guest room."
She sensed that the demonic spirit would strike soon. Now that its cover was blown, it wouldn't remain idle for long.
Hearing that Song Yan would be staying gave Jun Yue a profound sense of security. She agreed instantly and went to prepare a room for her guest with great haste.
Song Yan gave Jun Yue a small smile, appreciative of the woman’s warm hospitality.
Once Jun Yue had departed, Song Yan looked at Director Lin with a serious expression. "Make sure that absolutely no one leaves this house tonight, Director Lin. If anyone steps outside, my ability to protect them will be compromised."
Director Lin’s heart raced at the warning of impending danger. He felt a wave of gratitude for his decision to seek Song Yan’s help. Had she not been in S City, he might have met a mysterious end without ever knowing why.
He also felt deep remorse for ever allowing Ruan Bei to be part of their lives.
Director Lin nodded quickly. "I understand perfectly, Yan Yan." Having given her warnings, Song Yan didn't linger. She began a sweep of the Lin residence, systematically destroying the various items Ruan Bei had brought into the home. While searching the kitchen, she encountered Jun Yue, who watched her with a curious expression.
"These objects were plundered from cemeteries. They serve to empower the demonic spirit and maintain the soul connection array."
Song Yan spoke matter-of-factly, but Jun Yue nearly collapsed from the shock. Grave-robbed items? She felt a surge of rage, wishing Ruan Bei were there so she could vent her fury. How could anyone be so despicable!
