My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser Chapter 1456: Fighting the demonic spirit

Previously on My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser...
Song Yan confronts Director Lin regarding the dark past of his aunt, Madam Lin, revealing a troubling history with a possessive orphan named Su Jun. As Director Lin shares disturbing instances of Su Jun's behavior, including a series of suspicious accidents linked to Madam Lin's family, it becomes clear that the girl’s untimely death in a fire at an asylum may not have been an accident. Feeling the weight of impending danger, Song Yan decides to stay at the Lin family home, urging everyone to remain inside that night while she prepares to combat the looming threat of a demonic spirit. Tension rises as they piece together the malicious potential of Ruan Bei’s influence.

Upon learning that Song Yan intended to stay overnight, Lin Wei and Lin Sui offered no resistance and gave their consent. Despite the emotional turmoil caused by their own spouses, they remained rational. They recognized that Song Yan’s presence was born out of genuine concern for their mother’s well-being.

Song Yan appeared far more sincere than the many disingenuous students their mother had taught over the years.

Consequently, they followed their sister-in-law’s lead without hesitation, even providing the most spacious guest room for Song Yan’s use.

This kindness was exactly why Song Yan felt compelled to assist Madam Lin. Although the older woman had erred, she possessed a good heart, and her family shared that inherent decency. It was unfortunate that her benevolence had resulted in such a dark predicament.

That evening, Song Yan settled into the Lin residence after messaging Fu Yu Sheng to inform him she would not be returning home that night.

Even in this unfamiliar environment, she did not neglect her Cultivation. She knew the demonic spirit she was set to encounter possessed significant strength.

At approximately two-thirty in the morning, the faint, grinding noise of something dragging itself along the floor reached her ears.

Her heightened senses allowed her to react instantly. She launched an S-grade invisibility talisman, which not only hid her form but also completely masked her scent. The room appeared entirely vacant, as if no one had ever been there.

The dragging sound intensified as it approached, finally halting right outside her door. With a slow, eerie creak that pierced the heavy silence of the night, the door was nudged open.

Song Yan narrowed her eyes, observing the grotesque entity that entered. While she previously struggled to see it clearly, her improved Cultivation now allowed her to witness the demonic spirit’s true, horrifying form.

The creature’s body was a charred wreck, with blackened skin sloughing off incinerated bones. Its eyes were voids of pure black, and a few pathetic strands of hair clung to its scalp. It was a vision of pure, hideous malice.

Regulating her breathing and pulse, Song Yan watched the spirit shuffle its melted feet toward the bed. It stood motionless for a few moments, merely observing.

Then, a rhythmic clicking—like teeth chattering together—echoed through the room, making Song Yan’s skin crawl. The sound was bone-chilling.

The noise triggered a primal instinct within her to shriek and hide. It was a strange sensation, as Song Yan did not actually fear the demonic spirit, yet the creature possessed an aura that forced fear upon her heart.

The demonic spirit lifted a blackened hand, revealing a long, razor-sharp blade. Song Yan watched in grim fascination as the entity plunged the knife downward with practiced, lethal precision.

“One stab... two stabs... the lovely third stab oh oh oh, blood stains the white, turning it red oh oh oh,” the demonic spirit crooned with every strike. Despite the absence of any white in its dark eyes, Song Yan could sense the madness within it.

A frantic, gleeful light shone in the spirit’s gaze.

Suddenly, the creature paused. With the dagger still buried in the bedding, it panted heavily before jerkily pulling back the covers.

The target was missing!

Click. Click. Click.

The chattering teeth filled the room once more, though this time the sound was laced with palpable irritation.

Song Yan observed as the spirit dragged itself back out. Once the door shut, she narrowed her eyes and waited a moment before quietly tailing the entity.

Despite her confidence, she maintained a safe distance while following the creature.

Song Yan saw the demonic spirit pause at Lin Sui’s door. She refrained from attacking, instead using the opportunity to gauge the enemy's Cultivation level. She knew that rushing into a confrontation at the wrong moment would be a mistake.

She expected an attack on Lin Sui, but the spirit moved past that room, heading instead toward the master bedroom shared by Director Lin and Jun Yue.

The demonic spirit skillfully manipulated the door and slipped inside. A soft creak accompanied its entrance.

Inside, Director Lin and Jun Yue were deep in sleep on their king-size bed. Jun Yue, however, was a light sleeper—a habit from her days as a mother who woke at the slightest sound from her children.

Disturbed by the sound of the door, she sat up. Seeing it ajar, she nudged her husband with her foot. “If you’re going to open the door, close it,” she muttered.

Director Lin remained unresponsive, sleeping like a heavy log that wouldn't budge even if pushed to the floor.

Jun Yue was exhausted and tempted to ignore the open door. But as she prepared to lie back down, a sudden chill raced up her spine, giving her the distinct feeling of being watched.

As her mind cleared, she vividly remembered locking that door before bed.

How could it be open? Her husband’s sleeping habits were legendary; once he was out, he stayed out.

If he hadn't opened it, then who had?

Her body went rigid, and her complexion paled. Though she didn't understand what was happening, her intuition screamed that something was wrong. She stared at the doorway, but lacked the courage to get up and close it. Just as she considered hiding under the blankets, the sound of something dragging across the floor filled the room. Her pupils dilated in terror. The sound was coming from right in front of her! She looked up to see a dark, charred shadow. The burnt figure twisted its mouth into a gruesome grin and shrieked, “Die!”

The sharp blade descended, and Jun Yue was paralyzed with fright. She tried to scream, but the sound died in her throat. Her mind went blank as her body began to shake uncontrollably.

She could only watch as the dagger neared her face.

Just before impact, a brilliant golden light erupted in the room. A shimmering whip lashed out, striking the hand that held the weapon.

The knife was knocked aside, and the demonic spirit let out a howl of fury.

The spirit wasn't the only one screaming. Having been spared from death, Jun Yue finally found her voice. The scream she had been holding back exploded from her lungs, jolting Director Lin awake.

Director Lin’s ears rang from his wife's piercing cry. He started to ask what was happening when Song Yan suddenly appeared in the room, shouting, “Director Lin, Sister-in-law Jun, run!”

Initially confused, Director Lin turned to his wife. He saw her trembling violently while staring at a woman who appeared to be entirely incinerated.

The creature’s sinister smile was enough to spur Director Lin into action. He grabbed his wife and practically dragged her out of the room.

His movements were fast, yet his shaking hands revealed his terror. This was his first encounter with a ghost, and he was certain he never wanted another. His lips quivered, though unlike his wife, he remained silent in his shock.

As the couple fled, Song Yan engaged the demonic spirit in combat.

She hadn't intended to start the fight this way, but she knew all too well that plans rarely survived contact with the supernatural.
