My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger Chapter 1211 - 1212: Mommy
Previously on My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger...
Evangeline’s attribute was light, and with her rank so close to the seventh class, she could already assume some of the characteristics of her attribute. For that reason, she could transform herself into a streak of light and travel at incredible speeds toward her destination.
It didn’t take her long to return to the capital with Ranar in her arms.
If Ranar were an ordinary child, Evangeline would have needed to focus on shielding her from the pressure caused by moving at such a terrifying speed. But Ranar was anything but ordinary.
Her rank had already reached the fourth class, yet that alone wasn’t what made her special. The girl could accomplish things that someone of her rank shouldn’t have been capable of doing, as if the natural limitations of rank simply didn’t apply to her.
She was an anomaly in every sense.
Then again, even the circumstances of her birth had been extraordinary.
By the time they returned, an entire evening had already passed. Evangeline had taken Ranar inside, given her a bath, and washed herself as well before sending the exhausted girl straight to bed.
Ranar didn’t say much throughout the entire process. She had been completely worn out and immediately fell asleep the moment her head touched the pillow.
Evangeline lay beside her and tried to sleep as well.
She really wanted to.
But she couldn’t.
All she could do was stare at the high ceiling in silence.
She couldn’t believe she had lashed out like that, especially in front of Ranar.
Evangeline bit her lower lip as a dull ache settled in her chest.
She wasn’t stupid. She already knew how she felt about Damon.
But why was she acting like this?
No, that wasn’t the real problem.
Maybe Damon simply didn’t feel the same way about her. That was fine. She couldn’t force someone to return her feelings.
Then why didn’t he trust her?
He had been perfectly willing to tell Lilith Astranova everything.
Of course, they had been close since their days at the academy. Damon had always told Lilith everything, and she knew almost all of his secrets.
Evangeline frowned.
Lilith was beautiful, yes, but she wasn’t more beautiful than Evangeline herself.
"I have my own charm," she whispered, lightly touching her chest.
Damon had always had a peculiar interest in certain things. She had noticed it when they were younger. Whenever they fought, his hands would sometimes wander a little too far, especially toward her chest.
She had never really minded.
Sometimes, she had even let him.
Evangeline’s cheeks warmed slightly at the thought before she quickly pushed it aside and turned her head toward the sleeping Ranar.
A few strands of the girl’s hair had fallen across her face. She must have been completely exhausted.
Evangeline reached over and gently brushed the strands away, tucking them behind Ranar’s ear.
Then her expression became complicated again.
Renata was a demon.
Damon knew.
And if Damon knew, then Lilith knew as well. The two of them had been close to Renata for a long time.
Evangeline already knew Damon was with Lilith Astranova. Everyone knew that.
He was also engaged to Sylvia, her own best friend.
The entire world knew their story. To many people, their relationship was proof that love could overcome everything, even though Damon hadn’t seen Sylvia in seven years.
Sylvia had loved Damon for a very long time, even when he was still a commoner. And she had never made any effort to hide it.
In fact, she wanted the entire world to know that Damon Grey was the man she loved.
She was an elven princess.
He had been nothing more than a human commoner.
She hadn’t cared.
She didn’t care who she offended or how many enemies she made, and she was willing to do almost anything for her love. Sometimes, her devotion had bordered on obsession, even madness.
But perhaps sanity would never have won her the love she wanted.
So she had chosen madness as her weapon.
Then there was Leona.
Leona had been close to Damon for years. Damon considered her one of his closest friends, but it was obvious that her feelings went far beyond friendship.
She had even openly declared that she wanted to make plenty of babies with him.
Evangeline’s lips twitched.
She had a feeling that woman might actually succeed.
Her purity always seemed to catch Damon off guard.
That was one of his weaknesses.
A simple woman who acted without complicated intentions could sometimes slip past his defenses. Even Ranar’s mother, Wendy, had managed to catch him off guard in much the same way. She had been simple and pure, and Damon was always suspicious of complicated schemes.
Perhaps that was why genuine innocence worked so well against him.
Then there was Renata.
Renata was alluring, confident, and practically a seductress.
Evangeline refused to believe there was nothing between her and Damon, especially considering how often the two had been alone together for long periods of time.
She bit her lip.
Then she started counting.
Lilith.
Sylvia.
Leona.
Renata.
The third princess Abellona was in love with him too, although Evangeline wasn’t particularly worried about her. With her political position, the princess couldn’t openly act on her feelings if she still wanted to retain her title. Damon was the grandson of the Grand Duke, after all.
Then there was Seras Blade.
Of all people, Damon had somehow managed to attract the attention of a woman like her.
And she was much older.
Seras was also one of the most powerful people in the world, if not the strongest person of this era. She was unmarried, incredibly influential, and apparently had her eyes on Damon as well.
Evangeline’s expression slowly darkened.
All these women.
And there wasn’t even a place for Eva.
They were all beautiful.
She lowered her gaze as her eyes began to cloud with tears.
"Of course he wouldn’t notice me," she muttered. "He wouldn’t trust me either."
A tear slipped down her cheek.
Why did this hurt so much?
Why was she acting so weak?
Why did everything involving him have to be so complicated?
"Why doesn’t he..."
Before she could finish, a small hand reached toward her face.
The tiny fingers gently wiped away her tears.
Evangeline froze.
She slowly looked up.
Ranar’s golden eyes were staring at her through the darkness.
The little girl gave her a sleepy smile.
"Don’t cry, Mommy. Daddy loves you very, very much."
Evangeline’s eyes widened.
Mommy.
She had called her Mommy.
Ranar had never called her anything except Eva.
For a moment, Evangeline simply stared at the little girl, unable to say anything.
Then her eyes filled with tears again.
She pulled Ranar into her arms and held her tightly, burying her face against the girl’s hair as the tears finally flowed freely.
After a while, she lifted her head and wiped her eyes.
A faint smile appeared on her face.
"I’m going to teach him a lesson when he gets back..."
