My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger Chapter 1194 - 1195: New Patners

Ranar sat there for a while, confused. She had so many questions. Her father had always taught her to be kind to others, to protect the weak, and yet it turned out he didn’t even believe in those ideals.
"Was Gunter right?" she asked. She just wanted the answer.
Damon shook his head slowly.
"No. He wasn’t. Gunter was not right, but I can’t say he was completely wrong either." He closed his eyes for a moment before speaking in a soft whisper. "In this world, there are no right or wrong answers. Everyone has their reasons. We judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions. People cheer for those they understand, for the perspective they can see, not necessarily for what is right."
He then took a deep breath.
"Often, the most common madness is simply what the crowd has agreed upon. That’s how we end up with wars. Don’t follow a path just because someone tells you to. Make your own choices. I promise not all of them will be right, but in the end, you can look back and know you made choices you were proud of."
She did not understand all of it. She couldn’t understand it. Even so, she had gotten the answer she wanted.
"Then Gunter was wrong because he tried to apply his judgment to my circumstances."
Damon nodded slowly. That was it.
He then glanced at Ric, who had been quiet for a while.
"Is there anything you would like to ask me, Ric?"
The boy was quiet for a moment. He had lots of questions.
"So my father was your friend? What was he really like... No, my mother. How does she look? Is she okay? Did she forget about me? What about the rest of House Ravenscroft?"
"You clearly have many questions." Damon smiled when he saw Ric finally showing interest in his family. "You’ll meet them in due time."
Ric tilted his head in confusion.
"Is that a good idea? I mean, isn’t the point to keep me a secret? It would be a real problem for you if I were discovered."
"I know. I’ve thought about it for years. What will come will come. I already know it will. You are a secret that cannot be hidden forever. If it can’t be avoided, I’ll simply face it. But I will not steal more of your life. This is the choice I am making."
"Hmmm." Ranar crossed her arms.
"You want us to lie for you, don’t you?"
"Yep, pretty much. I’d appreciate it if you two could keep a secret." Damon replied with a smile.
When Ranar saw that smile, she face-palmed herself.
"After everything you said, your next step is to involve us in your lie? Well, my dear father, this takes irresponsible parenting to a whole new level. Let me guess, you also want us to lie to Eva? Haven’t you taken advantage of her enough?"
She placed her hands on her small waist.
"Grandfather says you like stringing her along without actually putting a ring on her finger. Ahhh."
Damon got scolded by his ten-year-old daughter.
"Ahem, ahem. Fine, fine. It can’t be helped. Looks like I have to separate you two. It’s nothing personal. I just don’t trust you guys to keep a little secret. Of course you can’t do it. You’re children."
Ranar glanced at Ric, who was already feeling challenged. He stood up and pointed at Damon.
"You think I can’t do something this small? You are on."
Ranar took a deep breath. She was supposed to be the idealistic one. How was Ric getting tricked this easily?
"Alright. Who do we have to lie to, and what’s the lie?"
Damon held his chin for a moment, then shook his head.
"Let’s see... everyone."
Ric nodded solemnly, while Ranar sighed, feeling a little bummed that Damon wouldn’t let her tell Evangeline.
Damon looked at them and spoke softly.
"You both have to promise me to keep everything I told you a secret as best you can. If you have to reveal everything, especially if it protects you, then do it."
"So do you want us to keep the secret or not?" Ric asked, more confused than ever.
"Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t think there’s a lesson here. If there is, I can’t see it. What I do know for sure is that I would rather suffer than let you suffer a grievance."
"I promise I won’t tell anyone my identity, no matter what." Ric said, placing his hand on his chest.
Ranar glanced at Ric before doing the same.
"I promise to keep your secret. From now on, it’s our secret."
Damon nodded slowly.
"Well then, let’s get out of this hellhole. As for our story, let’s just say Ric is a wild child who happened to raid a dungeon. As for any parts of the story that don’t add up, we’ll figure it out."
They nodded as the master liar, Damon, began to tell them their story. He even came up with a background for Ric and some sad backstory to make it more believable.
To make their story better, they were going to take the other five children with them.
The two must have thought it was fun because they started adding their own little details to the story.
Maybe Damon should have told them, but the first thing they were going to do after leaving these mountains was to see a mental health quartermaster.
They had no idea how dull of an affair that was going to be.
Damon felt his heart lighten. Telling them everything made him feel at peace.
In the end, all this had happened because people refused to understand each other or forgive each other.
’Forgiveness, huh.’
If he and Xander did choose to let go, then did that mean they would be able to reconcile their differences?
He shook his head.
As if the real world would be that easy. It wasn’t like he had done something negligible on a playground. He had killed Xander’s older brother, and his older brother had killed his mother and father. Even if Xander and Damon were to forgive each other, would Luna forgive losing her mother and father? Would the Duke forgive losing his sister? Would the Grand Duke forgive losing his daughter?
And what about the Ravenscrofts? Would Xander’s mother and father forgive? Would his grandfather? His sister?
Debts of blood were often repaid in blood, and the circle continued long after the original members of the feud were dead. Grudges were inherited over generations, and new hatreds were forged and passed down. It could have started over something as small as a morsel of food.
"We wish to be good, but we fail to forgive."
