Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race Chapter 401: 400 - Is My Authority Being Undermined?
Previously on Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race...
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, specifically in the Magic City of Sharia, the atmosphere had been much heavier over the last few days.
Both at Ranoa Magic Academy and in the city's tourist and commercial districts, there was a sense of mourning spread through the air.
This atmosphere was mainly due to the death of Rudeus Greyrat. The former Seventh World Power, acclaimed throughout the world as the Magic King. And, by many, even as the Mage God.
His death was not simple sad news. Rudeus had lived in Sharia for the last ten years of his life, and had become an important presence in the city. To many, he was a living legend.
And obviously, even if the entire city was in a bad mood, nothing compared to the pain felt by his family.
The Greyrat Family Mansion was busier than usual. Which, considering there were six small children, already said a lot.
The Dragon God Orsted made a point of personally notifying the family of his right-hand man.
In addition, he arranged for Sylphiette and Sara to return to Sharia. The two returned devastated, inconsolable.
Roxy Greyrat, who had been waiting for good news from the great battle, had her expectations destroyed when she learned of her husband's death.
At first, she herself tried to find some way to reverse it.
First, she asked Orsted to revive him, asking about Resurrection Magic, and also questioned him about the Resurrection Stones of the Ever-White Labyrinth.
But ordinary Resurrection Magic clearly required a functional body. The same principle applied to the Resurrection Stones.
Even if important organs or limbs were missing, the magic could still work by reconstructing the lost parts, as long as there was enough of a body to serve as a base.
But, after Saint Milis's overwhelming attack, the only thing recovered from Rudeus Greyrat was a few fingers from his left hand.
Fingers delivered by Aisha Greyrat to the Dragon God.
With only that, no known resurrection magic was capable of bringing him back.
On the very day after the news, the funeral and burial of the deceased were carried out. And, because of these events, the atmosphere in Sharia was not exactly pleasant.
At least for most residents.
On this day, two days after the battle, Ranoa Magic Academy received a small calamity within its facilities.
A guest who came with the purpose of causing as much uproar as possible wherever she went.
"Muahahahaha! Tremble before my powerful magic, common creatures!"
On the Academy's battlefield, Aurora laughed with one hand raised. Around her, gravity bent as if it were a toy.
The little girl manipulated her opponent's body in the air with the same naturalness as a child swinging a doll around for fun.
"All Might Push!"
The poor mage who had stepped forward against her was thrown backward. Then upward, then to the side, and then backward again.
The man in question was from the Dwarf Race, short, sturdy, and well trained in defensive magic, but at that moment he had been reduced to a rag doll.
He spun through the air without any control, his arms and legs flailing in a humiliating way as he was tossed from side to side under the little sorceress's control.
At some point, he lost consciousness, but Aurora did not notice immediately. She continued manipulating him for a few more seconds, until the referee finally shouted:
"V-veteran Weasel has also been defeated! Aurora wins this round!"
Aurora stopped the dwarf in the air. She blinked and looked at him in doubt.
Then she tilted her head, finally realizing he had lost consciousness.
"Tch! The mages here are so fragile!"
She crossed her arms, still keeping the dwarf floating.
"Doesn't anyone here teach that pure mages are easy targets?!"
Without much ceremony, Aurora looked to the side and tossed the dwarf onto the pile of defeated opponents. The pile was already too large to ignore.
There were mages defeated in individual duels, mages defeated in five-against-one fights, mages defeated in sequence, and even mages defeated after sneak attacks.
And, even so, no one had been able to defeat the young daughter of the Beast God.
The simple combination of her absurd magical proficiency with her teleportation ability was enough to bring Ranoa's great mages to their knees.
Around the arena, a large audience whispered among themselves, low but agitated.
"Who is that girl?"
"Is she a particularly short hobbit?"
"No, man, she really is a child. She is one of the Beast God's daughters! I think she is only six years old!"
"Bah, what nonsense! I heard she is actually seven thousand years old and recently returned to life. She is a super ancient demon!"
"Her hair looks like the Superd's. Is she a hybrid...?"
"No one knows for sure, but don't mess with her. I heard she is protected by the Iron Legion."
The people in the audience followed Aurora with their eyes.
And then they saw, at the edge of the arena, although they tried to look discreet, about twenty warriors watching every movement carefully.
They were ready to react to any suspicious attempt to approach Aurora or Iris. Among them, two important names from the Iron Legion Headquarters in the Magic Triumvirate stood out.
The Sword King, Nigav, and the North King, Inkmonk. Both were prominent, influential, and respected warriors in that region.
The referee, finally free from another round, breathed in relief while wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.
Aurora left without a care, skipping out of the arena as if she were not responsible for all the chaos she had just caused.
Outside, there were the three people she was looking for.
One of them was her little sister, Iris, sitting on a bench with two other children, talking about something.
Aurora disappeared, and in the next instant, appeared directly in front of them.
"So?"
The other two children were startled by her sudden appearance. Iris was not. She merely looked at her sister as if it were normal.
Aurora crossed her arms proudly.
"Good enough?!"
The older of the children, who seemed to be around the same age as Iris and Aurora, was Lara, Roxy's first daughter.
The other was a blond little boy with green eyes, with far too much obvious energy for his own good. Arthur Greyrat, the first son of Sara Greyrat.
And the eldest son of the Greyrat household. Although, even then, he was younger than all the girls there. He was four years old.
Upon hearing Aurora's question, Arthur did not hesitate for even a moment. He leaned forward with energy and declared loudly:
"Right! If you are capable of reviving my father, I will become your follower!"
Lara slapped her own face in disappointment, and Aurora smiled smugly.
"Fufufu~ wise choice, little boy!"
She pointed at herself.
"Do not worry. I was born to be the greatest and best mage this world has ever seen. Reviving your father will not be a problem!"
She made a short pause.
"Although that may take some time, of course!"
Arthur nodded fervently, without the slightest doubt. Lara, on the other hand, looked confused, and, in truth, even a little hopeful.
She watched her new friend try to recruit her younger brother into a faction she was not even sure existed.
The source of that confusion had begun the day before. Aurora was still in the Greyrat house, and Lara refused to see her.
Although she did not show it much, Lara loved her father, and he was dead.
Aurora, however, volunteered to revive him.
What absurdity.
But, for some strange reason, all the barbarities and absurd things Aurora said seemed a little realistic when they came from her.
That was how she ended up offering to demonstrate her magical prowess. And Arthur, who was with them, got dragged into that mess.
"Do not worry too much, Lara..."
Lara looked to the side. The one who had spoken, although a little quietly, was Iris. She seemed more sensitive than her sister.
"Since Sister Aurora said she can do it, then it must be possible!"
Iris lowered her eyes a little, moving her fingers over her lap.
"Our father always says magic can do anything."
"I see..."
Lara looked back at Aurora and Arthur.
Aurora seemed to be teaching Arthur who her main enemies were and, from what Lara managed to understand, she placed Perseus as her greatest obstacle.
Logically, Lara knew her father was dead.
Definitively. If not even the Dragon God could save him, then there was probably no hope.
But... what if there was?
The Beast God seemed to be as incredible as Lord Orsted, and Aurora was his daughter.
Honestly, Lara did not know what to think, so she simply remained silent. Beside her, Iris seemed to want to say something, but was a little shy.
Meanwhile, a young woman wearing a blue cloak, with long black hair, approached the group.
Beside her came an even more frightening man. He wore a white mantle, and an iron helm covered his head.
Both walked toward the children. Strangely, the Legion warriors did not stop them. They simply allowed them to approach.
But it was visible that each of them was sweating cold, and all of them wanted to go against the orders they had received. All of them wanted to place themselves between that man and the daughters of the Beast God.
But they restrained themselves through discipline and reason alone. After all, if that man wanted to act, none of them could do anything to prevent it.
This was the Dragon God, Orsted, and in his company was Nanahoshi. Also known as Silent Sevenstar.
Lara saw them first.
"Miss Nanahoshi. Lord Orsted..."
The young woman in the blue cloak smiled at Lara.
"How are you, Lara?"
Aurora noticed the newcomers.
"Huh?"
She looked at Nanahoshi, then at Orsted.
"Who are you?"
Suddenly, Aurora appeared in front of Orsted, floating at the same height as his face. Her magic eyes shone mysteriously as she analyzed him up close.
The Dragon God faltered for a moment.
It was a small reaction, but it was enough for the twenty Legion warriors to place their hands on their blades at the same time, about to attack.
Aurora raised her hand without even looking at them.
"Hey, hey! Did I tell you to do anything?!"
The warriors froze.
Aurora puffed out her chest.
"Jeez! Does no one respect the boss's daughter anymore?!"
Of course, Aurora would never dare repeat that in front of Rygar.
But, since he was not around, she felt extremely comfortable acting bossy. It was as if it were her true nature.
The warriors hesitated, but did nothing.
Aurora turned her attention back to Orsted. She looked him up and down.
"Hm..."
She narrowed her eyes.
"You look familiar, man! Have I seen you before? Aren't you going to take that helm off?"
Lara was just as shocked and stunned by the development of the situation as the guards.
Jeez, this was the Dragon God. Until recently, regarded as the strongest being in the world. But, ignoring everyone's shock, Orsted actually raised his hand to his helm.
The man being interrogated by a six-year-old child slowly removed the piece of iron. His intimidating and serious face was revealed to everyone, along with his curse.
"I am the Dragon God, Orst—"
"Whoa!"
Aurora interrupted him, and covered her nose at the same instant. Then she waved her hand in front of her face, grimacing in disgust.
"Whoa! What terrible breath, man! How long have you been wearing that helm?! Bleh! Go brush your teeth!"
Everyone, without exception, who was watching that scene fell into sepulchral silence. Even the air seemed to stop for an instant.
The only exception was the brat in question herself.
Aurora simply turned back to Arthur as if nothing had happened.
"Well, Arthur, back to your lesson!"
She raised a finger in a lecturing tone.
"First lesson: never let anyone interrupt me. That undermines people's authority, you know?"
