Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race Chapter 400: 399 - Is Age Just a Number? Beginning Again!
Previously on Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race...
Insensitive to young Eidar's return to the world of the living, the world continued its course.
As the days passed, the battle on the Begaritt Continent grew larger and larger in scale. Then, after reaching its destructive peak, the battle finally came to an end.
Just as promised, Lisena completely prevented Eidar from going to the battlefield.
Actually, she was very direct about it.
Eidar barely had time to protest before being hastily incorporated into a Stationary Battalion of the Iron Legion.
As a formality.
It was a polite way of saying he would stay far away from the main battlefield and from any real chance of dying again only a few days after returning to life.
Today marked two days since the end of the battle.
And, with almost two weeks having passed since his resurrection, Eidar had enough time to truly accept his new reality. Not completely, but enough not to wake up confused every morning.
During that period, he spoke with his brother, spoke with old acquaintances, and heard many explanations.
He also experienced many strange moments because of an entire generational gap.
For Eidar, sixteen years had vanished in the blink of an eye. For everyone else, sixteen years had been lived. And that made all the difference.
Even so, at that moment, he was enjoying a strangely warm time beside a legendary swordswoman he had dreamed of meeting since childhood.
The Water God, Reida Lia.
Although under circumstances a little different from what he had imagined.
At the center of a dojo built inside the top of one of the mountains of the Combat Temple, Eidar wore a white kimono.
The place was wide and open, supported by stone pillars. The cold mountain wind passed through the empty space between them, making the sleeves of his kimono sway lightly.
In his hands, a longsword remained motionless, pointed toward his opponent. This was the classic stance of the Water God Style.
Eidar had cut his dark-brown hair shorter, and his blue eyes were focused on the tip of his sword.
In front of him, a young half-elf with blond hair and green eyes stared at him with the same intensity.
Unlike Eidar, he used the aggressive stance of the Sword God Style.
This was Lionel, a newly promoted Sword Saint.
In addition, he was also the eldest son of Fendrel Ashbrand, who had been Rygar's first true swordsmanship instructor.
At the edge of the two stood Reida, still young and vigorous as ever, to Eidar's shock.
Beside her, sitting with a cup of tea in her hands, was her granddaughter, Isolte Cruel.
Reida looked at Eidar, then at Lionel. Seeing that both were ready, she spoke:
"Begin!"
The two young men moved, but neither advanced immediately.
Lionel searched for an opening for a fast and decisive attack. His body was leaning forward, ready to explode into movement the instant he found the slightest flaw.
Eidar, on the other hand, did not try to force anything. He simply watched every movement of his opponent carefully.
Isolte observed with interest while drinking tea in her grandmother's company.
She had come to the Kingdom of Gaia to claim the title of reigning Water God from Reida, but unfortunately, she lost in the decisive challenge.
Glancing at her grandmother, she was still surprised by her youthful appearance.
Isolte had not lost because of a lack of skill. No, she had come very confident that she would win.
But that was against the old Reida Lia.
The old woman who dominated her opponents through technique, experience, and reading no longer existed in the same way. After recovering her youth, besides becoming more intense, Reida had not stopped improving.
And, because of that, Isolte lost.
Although she had other reasons to extend her visit to the Kingdom of Gaia, such as visiting her friends Eris and Nina, she became even more interested when her grandmother mentioned that the young man promised to her in marriage had returned to life.
You see, she already knew that story. And she did not worry much about it because the boy in question had been killed.
An old promise with a dead man was not exactly an urgent problem.
But now?
The situation became even more confusing when Isolte realized he was only eighteen years old.
Of course, she felt somewhat anxious about still not being married at thirty. But she was not desperate enough to marry someone ten years younger.
Even so, Reida managed to convince her to at least watch the fight. And, to be fair, Eidar was more interesting than she had expected.
The two fighters did not seem rushed.
Then Lionel found his opening, or believed he had found it.
"Haaaaah!"
He advanced instantly.
The distance between the two disappeared in a single step. His blade came in a swift line, with enough force to end the duel before any ordinary reaction was possible.
A perfect technique, truly worthy of the title of Sword Saint. Unfortunately, he was not facing an ordinary Saint.
Eidar calmly deflected the blow, and the swift blade lost its target.
In the same instant, Eidar responded with a natural counterattack, using Lionel's momentum against him. The half-elf's body slipped slightly off axis, his balance broke for a fraction of a second, and that was all Eidar needed.
The tip of the sword stopped a few centimeters from his neck. Lionel froze, and the silence did not last long.
"Hoh!"
Reida clapped her hands.
"Not bad, big guy! Are you sure you were never trained by a Water Saint?"
Lionel seemed disappointed by the defeat. He had only been called to help test Eidar, but even so, a defeat was a defeat.
With a short bow, he withdrew without saying anything else.
Eidar, in turn, scratched his head, embarrassed.
"No, ma'am. Everything I learned was from my grandmother. And unfortunately, she was never able to go beyond Advanced level."
Both Isolte and Reida were slightly impressed, although not by his actual strength.
After all, without having mastered any of the Secret Techniques of the Water God Style, his repertoire was still limited.
What impressed them was the path.
Even though he had been taught only by an Advanced-level instructor, Eidar improved on his own, through pure talent, until he mastered the Flow technique to a level that almost matched many Water Kings.
And he did this without instruction from anyone who had ever reached that level. In addition, he helped Rygar eventually achieve the same feat.
With that talent, it was no wonder Rygar himself had mentioned his potential.
Reida wondered how much he could have evolved if he had been taught by her from the beginning. Perhaps he would have been at Isolte's level, or even above.
She sighed.
"It is a shame that you died."
Eidar was left speechless for an instant, but Reida smiled right afterward.
"But hey! Age is just a number! Look at me, who would say I am already in my eighties?!"
She laughed heartily.
"Hehehe! It is never too late to start! Well, you passed, my dear. If brat Rygar does not have other plans for you, I can accept one more personal disciple. I like your style!"
Isolte was shocked by her grandmother's willingness to teach a new student. That was an enormous rarity.
Eidar bowed respectfully.
"It would be an honor, Master."
Then he looked at Isolte.
"In addition, I am also looking forward to learning from Miss Isolte."
Reida gave him a suggestive look, but Isolte merely smiled politely in response.
"I will be happy to help for as long as I remain here."
Internally, Eidar felt a little regretful that he had not been able to meet both of those women sixteen years ago.
Although he was gradually accepting his current reality, the lost time and the imagination of how everything should have been were still too strong.
Every story they told him, so many challenges and adventures, all of it constantly passed through his mind. It was strange to hear about events involving people he knew without ever having taken part in them.
Reida suddenly looked to the side.
"It seems they have arrived!"
Since the dojo was open on all sides, except for the pillars, everyone caught sight of an enormous red dragon approaching.
A roar echoed through the mountains, and soon afterward, there was a thunderous landing outside the dojo, making the floor tremble lightly.
A second later, a woman entered with an excited smile.
It was the Sword God, Eris Adoldia, the current Sixth Rank among the Seven Great World Powers.
Eidar observed Eris in disbelief.
This was the first time he had met her after being revived, mainly because Eris had slept for three consecutive days due to extreme exhaustion.
Although he already knew she was the Sword God and one of the strongest women in the world, the shock of seeing her in person was much greater.
The Eris he remembered was a ten-year-old brat who, although talented, was still an impatient and aggressive brat.
That clashed completely with what he had heard about the current Eris, and also with what he was seeing now.
The woman before him carried the same intensity as before, but on a completely different scale.
"Eidar! You really are alive?!"
Without warning, Eris shot forward at high speed.
Even as a Water Saint, Eidar did not see even a red blur before he was hugged.
Although a little strange, Eidar returned the hug with some awkwardness. He and Eris had been very close, mainly because they had been partners in crime.
Although he was used to dealing with the young Eris, he understood the impact his death could have had on the girl.
Eris finally released him, crossed her arms, and raised her chin.
"Hmph! I really wanted to beat you up for old times' sake, but Rygar said you just came back to life and that would be bullying..."
She smiled.
"So I am generously giving you a deadline of two years to catch up to me!"
Her smile became more dangerous.
"After that... hehe!"
Eidar shuddered under that intense and vengeful gaze, and then smiled bitterly as he clearly remembered the beatings he used to give Eris.
In the name of learning, of course.
Back then, which for him had only been a few days ago, he was already a Saint, and she was only Advanced level.
Two years? What a joke. Even if he had a twenty-year advantage, Eidar would not be sure he could catch up to the current Eris. She was the Sixth World Power, after all.
Eris turned and went skipping toward Isolte. After all, they had not seen each other in many years either.
Eidar felt that the days waiting for him were dark.
But, pulling him out of those pessimistic thoughts, two new people entered shortly after Eris's forceful entrance.
They were talking and arguing as they came. One of them was Aisha, dressed in the robe of the Headmistress of Star Rise Academy. And finally, Rygar. He was wearing his casual Sword Sanctuary mantle.
After they stopped arguing, Rygar finally looked at Eidar. Despite the emotions and nervousness in his heart, Rygar restrained them.
Then he spoke with a smile:
"Hey, Eidar..."
The voice was familiar, although deeper and more mature than he remembered.
"How was coming back to life?"
Eidar smiled as he walked toward his closest friend.
"Not bad at all..."
Rygar gave him a hug.
Aisha had already met him after his resurrection, so she simply greeted him normally.
The atmosphere became more nostalgic the longer the group talked, both because of Eidar's return and because of Isolte's visit.
Everyone seemed to recall many events from the past as the conversation went on.
Eidar hoped he could catch up on the last sixteen years. He wanted to ask about everything and understand how the world he knew had transformed into this new scenery.
But Rygar added:
"Unfortunately, we are short on time at the moment. We are leaving for a visit to the Magic City of Sharia and to bring our daughters back... when we return, we will talk properly."
Eidar nodded. Although it was not what he wanted, he already knew about the disappearance of Rygar's daughters and understood its importance.
They said their farewells, and, shortly afterward, finally departed.
Heading toward Sharia were Rygar, Aisha, Eris, and Jino Britz. Currently, four of the world's Seven Great Powers.
