"Master!" Both Yi Qiu and Xia Lan felt as if their hearts were being cut by a knife, frantically stuffing healing medicines into Chen Ziyu’s mouth.
Finally, blood no longer spewed from Chen Ziyu’s mouth, but his face had turned as pale as a sheet. He looked forward with lingering fear, wondering what exactly this prohibition was that was so terrible. It left him completely defenseless. Moreover, why did Xia Lan pass through without triggering the prohibition, yet it was activated when he went past?
"Master, there’s something strange here. How about we retreat for now?" Yi Qiu advised carefully, worry etched on his face.
"Yes, Master, you’re injured now, you should heal first. As for dealing with those two, let’s think it over." Xia Lan also advised cautiously. They feared their Master would insist on going, which would spell disaster. Both of them weren’t particularly strong, and with their Master severely injured now, facing Mu Hanyan and the others could mean significant loss.
"Find a place to rest." Chen Ziyu gritted his teeth as he spoke, reluctantly glancing at the lake’s surface. His heart seethed with resentment, thinking of settling accounts with those two later. For now, he would let them go.
...
At the bottom of the lake, Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji exchanged a glance, seeing cold smiles in each other’s eyes. That Sabi really followed them. The little trap they set had been sprung by Sabi, not missing a single one. In their attitude toward Chen Ziyu, these two were surprisingly in agreement.
Mu Hanyan’s voice interrupted their thoughts.
"Look, there’s a door ahead." Mu Hanyan said as he steadied himself.
Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji surveyed the lakebed; they were in a semicircular area devoid of water. Looking up, they saw a nearly transparent barrier above, with emerald-green lake water outside it. Retracting the Qi enveloping their bodies, the two approached Mu Hanyan.
"There’s a seal on this door. I’ve tried several times but couldn’t open it." Mu Hanyan said, stepping forward to gently touch the patterns carved on the stone gate before them. The patterns appeared ancient and solemn, a style they had never seen before.
"The legend could be true." Ye Lanfeng stepped up, placing his hand on the door. He sensed a faint, unusual energy, subtle and intermittent, but it undeniably existed. This place once hosted a mighty presence.
"A phoenix residing in water is quite rare." Fen Qianji naturally sensed the energy too; he went up and placed his hand on the stone gate, feeling the seal on it.
"It can be broken." Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji spoke simultaneously.
"Can it really be opened?" Mu Hanyan asked with some excitement.
"It can." Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji nodded simultaneously and gestured for Mu Hanyan to step back.
These two, who seemed to tire of looking at each other’s faces, only aligned in action when it concerned Mu Hanyan. If it was Mu Hanyan’s wish, they would exhaust all efforts to fulfill it.
Mu Hanyan stepped back, watching their backs with a complex expression.
Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji began to perform hand gestures—complex ones that Mu Hanyan had never seen before. Their speed increased, becoming dizzying to watch.
Soon, there was movement at the center of the stone gate, like a rock thrown in the center of a lake, slowly spreading ripples, growing larger and more frequent. Mu Hanyan watched the unfolding scene with some tension,
gradually, the ripples ceased. A transparent barrier appeared on the stone gate, which then cracked from the center like a spider web, stretching from the center to the edges. Finally, with a crash, the barrier shattered and disappeared completely.
"It’s really opened." Mu Hanyan murmured from behind the two.
"Please proceed, Sister." Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji pushed open the stone gate together, then turned to smile at Mu Hanyan.
Mu Hanyan concealed the emotions in her eyes, smiled faintly, and went past the two into the stone gate.
Entering through the stone gate revealed a deep corridor. Mu Hanyan took out a palm-sized sphere from her storage ring, made of a luminous mineral for illumination. However, the sphere’s illumination range was minimal.
"How was this place lit before?" Mu Hanyan asked casually with curiosity.
"Perhaps with luminous minerals or something similar?" Fen Qianji responded.
"No, look at the walls." Ye Lanfeng inspected the walls and spoke in a deep tone.
Mu Hanyan and Fen Qianji turned to the walls, seeing candle holders every few steps, each holding a lamp.
"Merfolk Oil..." Fen Qianji glanced at the lamps, speaking solemnly.
"Merfolk Oil, indeed." Mu Hanyan expressed surprise, "Then with so many lamps, there should be a mnemonic to light them?"
"Light the lamps?" Ye Lanfeng attempted to say.
Darkness remained ahead.
"Illuminate?" Fen Qianji tried too.
Darkness persisted.
"Shining Entrance." Mu Hanyan suddenly said out of nowhere.
Then, sounds of "puff puff" echoed as lamps on both sides quickly lit up in succession, making the corridor as bright as day.
Ye Lanfeng: "..."
Fen Qianji: "..."
Mu Hanyan’s mouth twitched, her mood somewhat complex.
"Sister, how did you come up with that phrase?" Ye Lanfeng felt a similar complex emotion and couldn’t help but ask.
Fen Qianji also gestured the question with his eyes.
Mu Hanyan paused, then honestly admitted, "I don’t know; I just felt that this was the right thing to say."
God-like intuition...
Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji were at a loss for words.
"Let’s go." Mu Hanyan took the lead and walked forward.
"Wait!" Ye Lanfeng and Fen Qianji simultaneously called out, then both passed Mu Hanyan, positioning themselves in front of her, and together said, "You walk behind."
Mu Hanyan blinked, then smiled lightly and nodded, "Thank you for your concern, junior brothers." Though warmed by the sentiment, she felt more puzzled. Why these two junior brothers always paid her such care. If it were merely camaraderie as sect members, it seemed excessive. Restraining the doubts in her heart, Mu Hanyan followed behind them. She wasn’t foolish; she had long noticed their cultivation was probably not below hers.
Who exactly were these two, and what were their identities? Why did they come to the Canglan Sect as disciples? What were their intentions? Although no malice was felt from them, instead, they maintained constant protection, hence Mu Hanyan refrained from revealing this matter for now.
The three proceeded down the long corridor, surprisingly encountering no danger along the way, eventually arriving at a small palace.
Mu Hanyan was startled, slightly gaping at the sight of the palace. It was entirely made of crystal, from pillars to the ceiling, even the tables and chairs were all crafted from crystal. This exquisite palace built at the lakebed - whose palace was it? Was it once home to the phoenix residing here?
