Marvel: The Villain Chapter 402 Dies In Style

"All Father!" Heimdall burst into the royal hall without being announced.
Odin straightened his posture. "Heimdall. Has something happened?"
"Your Majesty, a massive fleet has intruded into Asgard’s airspace," Heimdall said urgently.
"A fleet? Who leads them?" Thor asked, frowning. Asgard’s location in the universe was unique; without knowing the secret paths, outsiders could not enter. Even Thor and Odin relied on the Bifrost for travel.
"The man who almost killed you on Earth!" Heimdall said.
The brothers were stunned. "Jason! How can it be him!" Back on Earth, the Ancient One had personally moved to deal with him; logically, he should have been dead long ago. Had the Sorcerer Supreme shown him mercy? But even if he had survived, why would he trespass on Asgard? And how did he obtain the location?
"It is him," Heimdall said in terror. "Furthermore, I saw four Stone’s power swirling within his body."
"Gods..." Odin’s brow furrowed. He had an ominous premonition.
"What?" Loki was shocked. He had once possessed two Stones and knew their power was beyond mortal reach. Mastering one stone allowed one to dominate the galaxy; Jason had four. Loki remembered Odin’s teachings about a group of cosmic overlords who once tried to absorb a single Stone’s energy and were burned alive. If ancient gods couldn’t do it together, how could a mortal like Jason?
Odin spoke: "It seems his goal is the Tesseract in our vault."
"Exactly what I was thinking," Heimdall said. "The fleet is in our airspace. They will arrive within half a day. Your Majesty, your orders!"
Odin remained silent, mulling over a solution.
Thor eventually lost patience. "Father, time is short. Order the mobilization of the army!"
Odin looked up at him. "Mobilize the army... and then?"
"To kill Jason and defend Asgard, of course!" Thor shouted.
"Brother, are you serious?" Loki pulled at him, whispering urgently. "He has four Stones! Who can possibly defeat him?"
"Coward! Even if we fall on the battlefield, we must stop him from destroying Asgard," Thor glared at Loki.
"If all our soldiers die, Asgard’s survival means nothing. What will our defenseless citizens use to repel other enemies?" Loki shot back.
Thor said sarcastically. "Heh, you always have your twisted logic. What’s your suggestion then? Kneel before Jason and beg for our lives? Or hand over the Space Stone so he can warp through space and slaughter even more lives?"
Loki’s true thoughts were hit, but he still argued: "At least my way doesn’t waste Asgardian lives for nothing."
"Enough!" Odin shouted, ending the argument. The brothers glared at each other before turning back to their father.
"Actually, you both have points," Odin said, giving both sons a nod. "Jason has four Stones, a fleet, and tens of thousands of soldiers. Asgard’s strength alone cannot withstand him; fighting would only be a waste of life. But even knowing we are outmatched, we cannot sit still or hand over the Space Stone. If we do, the entire universe will fall under his violent rule."
"Father, what is your plan?" Thor asked, calming down.
Odin looked at the three of them. "Heimdall, notify the people immediately. Gather them in the square. Not a single person is to be left behind."
"As you command, Your Majesty." Heimdall seemed to guess Odin’s intent. He bowed solemnly and left the palace.
"Thor, Loki, my children. Go to the vault and take every treasure within."
"What?" Thor realized the implication. "Father, you’re abandoning Asgard?"
Odin looked at his eldest son seriously. "Remember, Asgard is not a place. It never was. Asgard is where our people stand! As long as you all live, Asgard can be anywhere."
Thor stood frozen. Odin’s words were like a sudden awakening. By abandoning the city, the people wouldn’t have to die. By taking the treasures, Jason would only find an empty shell.
"Father, I understand." Thor bowed with deep respect.
Odin nodded appreciatively. "Thor, you are strong and talented. You will be a better king than I ever was. Loki, you are a master of magic; Frigga would have been proud."
"A king?" Thor was shocked. "Father, you... no, you must come with us!"
Odin smiled. "I told you, my time is short. Once I die, Hela will escape the Realm of Death. Do you intend to bring Death to Earth?"
Thor shook his head in grief. He didn’t want the people of Earth or Asgard to suffer, nor did he want to lose his father. But there seemed to be no perfect solution.
Odin continued: "I was born in Asgard, and I wish to die here. But you are young. The universe is vast; go out and see it. Furthermore, by staying, I can use Hela to fight Jason. Whoever wins or loses, it is a good thing for the universe."
"But I can’t leave you..." Thor finally showed his true feelings.
"I can’t bear to leave you either, my children," Odin smiled kindly. "Go now. While there is still a little time, let us look at Asgard one last time."
Odin leaned on Gungnir and stood up with difficulty. Thor and Loki supported him as they walked to the balcony. They walked in silence, taking in the breathtaking scenery.
"No matter how many times I look, Asgard is still so beautiful!" Odin sighed. After a few laps, he returned to his throne and waved them away. "Go, children. Your people are waiting for your guidance."
"Father..."
"Father..."
"Do not be sad. I am going to see your mother."
Facing his imminent end, Odin was exceptionally calm—no sadness, no anger, only a serene tranquility.
Thor and Loki walked to the vault in silence. Odin’s vault contained countless cosmic treasures; the brothers were like mice in a granary, packing everything up and leaving not even a scrap for Jason. As Thor finished packing, he saw Loki standing silently before the Tesseract.
"Take it," Thor said mockingly. "Isn’t this what you wanted most? You finally have your wish."
Loki turned, his face cold and serious. "Brother, we have fought for over a thousand years, and yet you still don’t understand me." With that, Loki left the vault. Thor watched his back, lost in thought. After years in prison, Loki did seem different. But... who knew if it was just another mask. Thor shook his head and took the Tesseract.
In the fountain square before the palace, thousands of Asgardians gathered with their families. They had been rushed from their homes by soldiers, confused about what was happening.
Thor approached Heimdall. "Is everyone here?"
"Everyone. I just finished the count," Heimdall said.
Suddenly, someone screamed, "Look! What is that!" Everyone looked up to see several large starships appearing in the sky.
"He’s here!" Fury flashed in Thor’s eyes.
"We must hurry! Don’t forget Father’s command!" Loki reminded him.
Thor gave him a look, then gripped the Tesseract, opening a portal to Earth. "Quick! Everyone, move in order!"
Heimdall, sword in hand, directed the crowd with the soldiers. Though the citizens didn’t know the specifics, the massive fleet and the order to pack their belongings told them one thing: something terrible had happened to Asgard.
Passing through the jump points, the four ships finally arrived over Asgard. The first thing they saw was a magnificent, golden building. No doubt, Odin’s palace.
"Tacky," Jason muttered. He used to love this style, but his aesthetic had evolved; he could no longer stand this "nouveau riche" look.
"I never thought I’d actually come back. Before I left, I was prepared to die in a foreign land," Valkyrie said, her emotions complex as she looked at the familiar yet strange city. There was homesickness, the thrill of impending revenge, and the shame of a traitor.
Jason walked over and put an arm around her shoulder. "Feeling like you can’t go through with it?"
"No! I..." Valkyrie tried to argue but found no words. She couldn’t deny her reluctance to slaughter the descendants of her old comrades.
"Stay on the ship. I understand."
"Thanks."
Valkyrie hesitated before accepting. She only wanted Hela’s life; the other Asgardians were not her targets.
"Careful, there’s someone below!" The pilot of the shouted. Jason and Valkyrie looked down. At the end of the Bifrost, by the palace entrance, stood a white-haired old man with an eyepatch, holding a majestic spear.
"Odin!" Valkyrie blurted out.
"That’s Odin?" Jason frowned in surprise.
No wonder Valkyrie said Odin was finished. The elderly man before them lacked any aura of majesty; he was clearly at the end of his life. Jason could see that he was only standing straight by leaning on his spear. How could a man who could barely stand stop him?
The ships hovered. The belly hangar opened, and Jason flew out alone, landing before Odin. They stood ten meters apart, scrutinizing each other. Jason was interested in the All-Father of myth; Odin was curious about the man shrouded in mystery.
After a moment, Jason looked around and mocked, "Where are Thor and Loki? Have the warriors of Asgard all died out, leaving the King to guard the palace himself?"
"They have left, along with the Tesseract," Odin said slowly.
Jason laughed. "Fleeing before the battle? Is this how the Aesir fights?"
Odin ignored the provocation. "To see the gap in strength, face one’s own shortcomings, and avoid useless sacrifice—that too is a form of courage."
"Where did they flee? Earth?"
Odin shook his head. "A place of no contention. You will never find them."
Jason said. "The fact that you evacuated the people instead of fighting means you know I have four Stones. If so, where do you get the confidence to say I won’t find them?"
"Because... She will stop you!" Odin said.
"Who?"
Odin slowly closed his eyes, his body gradually turning into golden light. Watching the light dissipate into the air, Jason was stunned. "Impressive. Even the All-Father dies in style."
With a thought, Jason’s pupils turned orange. The power of the Soul Stone instantly swept across Asgard. After a moment, Jason let out a disappointed sigh. Odin wasn’t bluffing; Asgard was indeed empty. It seemed this trip was a waste.
Just then, a dark portal shimmered in the air. Jason frowned as a woman stepped out slowly.
