Marvel: The Villain Chapter 401 You Will Have
Previously on Marvel: The Villain...
The battle on Planet Vormir ended with the death of Thanos, and the skirmish between the two fleets in space was also drawing to a close. Thousands of fighter craft engaged in a fierce dogfight in the void. Once the enemy ships were neutralized, Darth Vader, lightsaber in hand, led his troops aboard the to finish the job. With the power of the Dark Side and an invincible crimson blade, he carved through the resistance like a hot knife through butter. The remaining rabble on the flagship didn’t last long before dropping to their knees in surrender.
While the soldiers were cleaning up the battlefield, Jason returned to the captain’s quarters on the . He toy with the Soul Stone and Reality Stone in his hand. Now that he had four Infinity Stones, he only needed to find the Space Stone in Asgard to finish his mission and head home in glory. At that thought, an inexplicable sense of urgency filled his heart. Perhaps influenced by Thanos, he found himself missing his wife and children.
Asgard’s location was shrouded in mystery. Jason didn’t even know the general direction, so he had to rely on the help of one specific person. A moment later, Valkyrie pushed the door open and entered. Seeing the two stones in Jason’s hand, she smiled. "Congratulations! Only one step left." Her grey combat suit was tattered and stained with fresh blood.
"Good work today," Jason said with a smile.
Valkyrie waved him off dismissively. "Don’t give me that empty talk. How about something real?"
"What do you want?"
Valkyrie pointed to the wine cabinet on the wall. "Lifting the ban today. I’m taking the whole lot."
Jason stared at her stomach in surprise. "There are over a hundred bottles in there. Your stomach can’t possibly hold all that."
Valkyrie walked to the cabinet, debating which bottle to start with. "Don’t worry. My record at the Sakaar is 154 bottles of hard liquor. This little stash isn’t even enough to break it."
"Fine. As long as you don’t get blackout drunk. I need you for something." Given the massive victory, Jason let her have her way.
"What do you need me for?" Valkyrie sat down, clutching a crate of wine.
Jason spoke seriously. "The next target is the Tesseract—the Space Stone. As far as I know, it was taken back to Asgard by Odin’s eldest son, Thor. I want to ask you for the details."
Valkyrie popped a cork, downed half the bottle, and wiped her mouth. "What do you want to know?"
"Everything. Everything about Asgard. Especially the parts that might cause me trouble. Be as detailed as possible."
Valkyrie frowned, thought for a moment, then shook her head. "You’re holding four Infinity Stones. Have some confidence. Asgard is completely decayed. There is no one, and nothing, that can cause you even a shred of trouble."
Jason asked skeptically, "Not even Odin or Hela?"
Valkyrie snorted. "Odin is old. His divine power is a shadow of what it once was. Otherwise, Thanos wouldn’t have dared to run rampant. As for Hela, she’s formidable. In a fair fight, I wouldn’t last a single exchange. But no matter how strong she is, she’s only one level above Thanos without his Stones. To you, as you are now? She’s not even worth mentioning."
Jason relaxed slightly. "According to you, that Space Stone is as good as mine. But you’ve been on Sakaar for many years. Is your intel out of date? Odin and Hela are gods, after all. They can’t be that pathetic."
Valkyrie finished another bottle, threw it on the floor, and spoke. "You’re a mortal; you don’t understand the Aesir. Odin and Hela aren’t immortal, and they aren’t invincible. The so-called ’gods’ are just a group of humans who were born early, took all the advantages, and are naturally powerful. If Earth breeds for ten thousand years, humans of the future will be just as strong. Asgard, having existed for tens of thousands of years, has already begun its descent into destruction."
"A thousand years ago, Odin’s power had weakened so much he couldn’t even kill Hela; he could only trap her in the Realm of Death. A thousand years later, his power is only weaker, never stronger. And Hela’s power source is Asgard itself. After a millennium in the Realm of Death, her power has withered. Only by returning to Asgard can she slowly recover. So, if you want to get that Space Stone without breaking a sweat, my advice is to go now. If you wait a few years for Odin to die and Hela to return, things will only get more complicated."
"Now?" Jason waved his hands dismissively. "No, no. I need to digest these two stones first."
Valkyrie didn’t give up. "How long will it take you to ’digest’ them?"
Jason thought for a bit. "The first stone took nearly three years. The second took a year and a half. These two combined... conservatively, at least another year."
Valkyrie smiled. "It just so happens that it takes exactly eighteen months to get from here to Asgard."
"How convenient." Jason looked at her. "Seems you’re in a hurry."
"I am!" Fury flashed in Valkyrie’s eyes. "Once you kill Odin, Hela will return. When that happens, I want to use my Dragonfang to cut that old hag’s head off myself."
"It’s been a thousand years, and you’re still holding a grudge?" Jason mused.
Valkyrie said venomously, "Hela killed my best friends. She ruined the first half of my life. I wouldn’t forget it in another thousand years."
"Fine. I promise," Jason nodded. "I’ll make sure the final killing blow is yours."
"Then thanks!" Valkyrie laughed.
After taking full control of Thanos’s remnants, the fleet took a brief rest on a nearby planet before heading for Asgard at top speed. Jason used the Reality Stone to repair Darth Vader’s broken body, allowing him to discard his ugly black robes and reappear before everyone as Anakin Skywalker. No one could have guessed that the masked freak who spoke in a raspy, robotic voice was actually so handsome. With those chores handled, Jason went back into seclusion to absorb the two stones.
Time flowed by!
Jason led his fleet through thousands of jump points. Eighteen months later, they finally arrived in the airspace of Asgard. He had finished absorbing the stones three months prior, and the soldiers were fully prepared for battle, waiting for the ships to arrive at the legendary divine realm.
Asgard, Bifrost
Heimdall, the guardian of the Bifrost, discovered an unknown fleet intruding upon their airspace. He immediately used his eyes, which could monitor the Nine Realms, to check the identity of the invaders.
"It’s him!"
Heimdall recognized Jason instantly. Thor had described him in detail—the man who had killed him on Earth—and had asked Heimdall to keep a close eye on him. But the Nine Realms were vast, and finding a single mortal without a specific location was no easy task. Heimdall had his own duties to attend to, so after a few fruitless searches, he had given up on the private request.
"He actually defeated Thor... is he really just a mortal?" Heimdall remembered Thor’s dejected face at the feast and felt a surge of curiosity. But as he scrutinized Jason, his face twisted into an expression of sheer horror.
"Gods... he absorbed four Infinity Stones into his body. What is this madman planning?!" A single stone was enough to cause a massacre across the galaxy; even Odin, the All-Father, didn’t dare keep two stones in Asgard at once. Yet this mortal had four, and he had absorbed them into himself. It was unbelievable. Over the millennia, countless ambitious men had tried to claim the stones in this way, yet every single one had failed, burned to ash. What was so special about this Jason? He was just a mortal.
Heimdall sensed disaster approaching. He quickly drew the sword that controlled the Bifrost and bolted toward the palace.
At that moment, Odin was in the palace, discussing "Ragnarok" with his eldest son, Thor, and his second son, Loki. Ragnarok was a myth passed down through the generations of Asgard. Legend had it that one day, a powerful figure would descend upon Asgard and bring about its destruction. Thor believed this figure to be Surtur, Asgard’s archenemy. Thus, he had spent years tracking and successfully killing Surtur, bringing his skull back to the vaults.
However, today Odin had summoned him and even released Loki from his prison.
"My children, I have something to tell you... Ragnarok has arrived!"
Thor was confused. Surtur was dead; who else had the power or the will to destroy Asgard? Odin leaned on his staff, looking out at the empty hall, his voice hollow with helplessness. "I spent my life trying to stop her, but my life is coming to an end. Against her, I am powerless."
"Father, who are you talking about?" Thor asked.
"The Goddess of Death—Hela! My firstborn, your sister."
"Your what...?" Thor and Loki looked at each other, both stunned. Having lived in this family for years, they never knew they had a sister. Odin tried to push himself up with his staff, but he failed several times. For a god, it was a cruel sight.
"Father!" Loki stepped forward, trying to help him up.
"No, there is no need..." Odin sat back on his throne and waved them off. "Thor, shatter the murals on the ceiling."
Thor looked up at the murals. They recorded Odin’s achievements throughout his life: his beloved family, the towering spires of Asgard, the happy populace, and the peace treaty signed with the Frost Giants. Thor didn’t understand why, but he raised Mjolnir and shattered the ceiling.
The mural shattered into a dozen pieces, falling to the floor. When the brothers looked up again, their eyes widened in shock. Behind the peaceful mural was hidden a second, darker image.
A young Odin was depicted in heavy armor, staff in hand, looking majestic and indomitable. Beside him stood a woman in green robes. She rode a giant wolf and held Mjolnir, fighting alongside Odin through countless battles. The entire mural told a story of conquest across the realms, a scene filled with violence and slaughter.
Thor and Loki were speechless. They never imagined their father, who was always so tolerant and kind, had looked like this in his youth. By comparison, the tens of thousands of Earthlings Loki had indirectly killed in New York were nothing—not even a fraction of what Odin had done.
Odin spoke sadly: "Like you, I made many mistakes in my youth. Back then, Asgard wasn’t as beautiful or grand as it is now. I was desperate to change that, so I set out to conquer the Nine Realms and plunder their resources. Hela was my vanguard. Our armies were unstoppable, carving out the glory of Asgard and bringing the Nine Realms to their knees."
"But one day, I woke up. I realized the depth of my mistakes, and I spent the rest of my life trying to make amends. But Hela didn’t wake up. She wanted to conquer beyond the Nine Realms. Her swelling ambition made it impossible for me to rest, so I exiled her. Hela’s power comes from Asgard itself; once exiled, her power would slowly wither. My intention was to have her experience the mortal world, to recognize her mistakes and the value of life."
"Just like me!" Thor remembered his own past.
"Yes! But you are a kind child. Hela’s malice was already too deep-seated. After her exile, she feared her power would eventually vanish completely, so she actually invaded Asgard to seize the throne. I didn’t want to fight her, so I sent the Valkyries to stop her. Out of thousands of warriors, only one survived. I had no choice but to imprison her in the Realm of Death, forever bound to the dead. But now, my time is short. Once I die, Hela will return. Her power will return to her, and Asgard will be consumed by fire."
Hearing his father’s story, Thor spoke solemnly: "Father, I am your child too. If the three of us join forces, we can surely defeat her."
"It’s no longer possible..." Odin let out a long sigh. "I can feel it. I have already begun to walk another path. You will have to face this alone."
