Su Jiuyi faces opposition from her father and stepmother who believe her choice to work as a servant is beneath their family's status. After a bitter exchange where she acknowledges her stepmother's deceit, Shi Aoju fiercely warns Su Zhenxiong to control his wife, threatening retribution if Su Jiuyi is mistreated again.

Witnessing the escalating situation upstairs, Su Manning, concerned about potential negative outcomes, contacted Song Zhike, hoping he could mediate.

Upon receiving her call, Song Zhike was less than a kilometer from the Su Family residence, engaged in a project inspection. Upon learning that Su Zhenxiong and Shi Aoju were entangled in a dispute concerning Su Jiuyi, he promptly set aside his current task and hurried towards the Su home.

Arriving five minutes later, he observed Shi Aoju and Su Jiuyi on the verge of departing, while Su Zhenxiong sat pensively on the sofa, a cigarette in hand.

Song Zhike first offered his greetings to Su Zhenxiong. He then cast a meaningful look at Shi Aoju, subtly urging him to escort Su Jiuyi away, leaving the ensuing matters for Song Zhike to manage.

"Should you step beyond this doorway, you need never return," Su Zhenxiong stated, his gaze fixed downwards.

While he maintained a degree of caution towards Shi Aoju due to their differing statuses, this was an internal family affair, and certain declarations were necessary. The ancient proverb of nurturing a viper at one's bosom came to mind; his own daughter, whom he had watched mature, seemed prepared to abandon their home of over two decades for an outsider.

"Very well," Su Jiuyi responded, turning to face him. "As you wish, Father."

She deliberately emphasized the word "Father," aware that this declaration might be the final one uttered in this capacity. Once she crossed the threshold and departed from the Su Family, the impetus to return would vanish.

Unwilling to compromise her principles or forfeit her pride, her departure might indeed be permanent, even if it meant facing solitude. She resolved to escape this labyrinth of schemes, regardless of her beloved father's presence within its walls.

"Heed your words today. If you depart, do not return," Su Zhenxiong abruptly extinguished his cigarette. He lifted his eyes to meet Su Jiuyi's, his usually unfocused gaze now bloodshot, appearing as if a decade had aged him overnight.

"I remember," Su Jiuyi replied with detached calm. "Every word you've spoken since my childhood is etched in my memory, including your present pronouncement. You may deem me unfilial, for I have contributed little to this family. I thank you for your upbringing. Should you require care in your twilight years, I will not be indifferent. I still recall Mother's maxim: 'Remain true to your original intention, until the very end.'"

With that, she took Shi Aoju's arm, fighting to suppress the tears that threatened to surface.

"Let us go," her voice held a faint tremor, though she strove to mask her vulnerability.

Dreading the possibility of tears, she repeatedly bit her lower lip with such force that any sensation of pain was obliterated.

Shi Aoju looked at her intently and murmured close to her ear, "Fear not, I am here."

He clasped her hand firmly, the warmth from his palm radiating through her, suffusing her entire being with comfort.

Su Jiuyi met his gaze, nodding with resolute affirmation. "Alright."

Observing their parallel departure from the hall, Su Zhenxiong’s expression deepened, a subtle current of sorrow rippling through it.

He averted his eyes, exchanged a few preoccupied remarks with Song Zhike, and then rose, his steps heavy as he ascended the stairs.
