Su Jiuyi wakes up to find Shi Aoju visiting her parents. While hiding, she playfully messages him about her location, which causes Shi Aoju to show a rare, gentle smile, puzzling her parents.

At this moment, Shi Aoju's figure abruptly rose.

"Su Jiuyi."

His deep, resonant voice cut through the expansive hall, a palpable presence in the air before gradually fading.

"Hey, I’m right here."

Su Jiuyi peeked out in acknowledgment, only to realize with a jolt that she had walked into his ploy; he hadn't known her hiding spot but was merely calling her out to test her.

"Come over here." Shi Aoju gestured for her, his profound gaze brimming with affection, a subtle smile playing on his alluring lips that held the power to ensnare any heart.

Su Jiuyi took a steadying breath and descended the steps, stopping directly in front of Shi Aoju. As she pondered how to begin, Shi Aoju suddenly extended his hand, grasping her wrist and drawing her closer.

"Did you miss your hubby?" His rough palm gently cupped her chin, compelling her to meet his intense gaze.

Su Jiuyi gave a small nod, confirming with her actions.

She wouldn't utter falsehoods against her will, for her feelings were genuine—she had indeed missed him terribly. This morning, she had even sent him a text confessing how her longing for him was so intense it had robbed her of sleep throughout the whole night.

Never before had she felt such profound dependence on another, recognizing that separating from him felt like a fish disconnected from water—a state where survival seemed uncertain.

"Good girl." Shi Aoju leaned down to press a kiss upon her lips before releasing her chin. He then reached out, affectionately ruffling her hair and whispering, "Return with me later, alright?"

Upon hearing Shi Aoju’s proposition, Su Zhenxiong offered a soft cough and interjected, "Young Master Jue, I fear my daughter cannot accompany you. I’ve already secured a position for her within my company, and she is expected to commence her duties tomorrow."

Hearing this, Zhao Shuya’s expression immediately turned guarded, her intention to probe further silenced by a significant look from Su Zhenxiong, deterring any further inquiries.

"Oh? Is that the situation?" Shi Aoju inquired, turning to settle onto the sofa. He drew Su Jiuyi to sit beside him, draping an arm possessively around her waist while his other hand tapped a steady rhythm on the nearby table.

"I am aware of Jiuyi’s employment at your residence, and I had no intention of intervening. However, considering her true standing, assigning her the role of a mere maid is indeed unsuitable. After all, she remains the eldest daughter of the prestigious Su Family." Su Zhenxiong stated with a smile, posing a hopeful question to Shi Aoju, "Young Master Jue, would you perhaps grant Mr. Su a small favor and permit Jiuyi to return home?"

"Her choice is hers to make, and I will honor it." Shi Aoju deferred the matter to Su Jiuyi, not to sow discord between her and Su Zhenxiong, but rather to ascertain Su Jiuyi’s genuine feelings.

He disliked coercion and the act of compelling others toward actions they found distasteful; even if the outcome meant a reluctant relinquishment on his part, he would always uphold her decision.

"I will not be working at your company. I didn’t before, I won’t now, and I never will." Su Jiuyi rejected Su Zhenxiong's proposal outright, without a second’s hesitation, driven by the conviction that she neither desired nor accepted such disingenuous pity or hollow charity.

Having graduated for quite some time, this man, who called himself her father, had never once expressed concern for her future prospects, nor had he ever bothered to consider her perspective.

As a father, even knowing she possessed the capability to secure superior employment, he should have at least endeavored to clear a path for her; his failure to do so marked a dereliction of a father’s fundamental duties.

He had consistently overlooked and disregarded her, withholding even the most basic parental concern, and thus, he held no right to dictate her future now.
