Living In Another World With A Farm Chapter 5
Previously on Living In Another World With A Farm...
Zhao Hai took several deep breaths, attempting to steady his racing heart. When he reached for the cane shaped like a worm, the notification chime rang out once more: “Pest Release Device. Level 1. Capable of releasing insects that consume crops. Usage: 50 times per day. Functionality extends outside the Space Farm.”
“Weed Release Device. Level 1. Capable of releasing weeds that compete with crops for nutrients. Usage: 50 times per day. Functionality extends outside the Space Farm.”
A chuckle escaped Zhao Hai’s lips as he set the two canes back down. These items were incredible; they were the ultimate tools for causing mischief and sabotaging others.
Finding nothing else of interest in the hut, Zhao Hai stepped out and headed toward the warehouse. He was certain more treasures were hidden there; at the very least, the grass seeds he had received as a system reward hadn't appeared anywhere else.
Within moments, Zhao Hai stood before the warehouse. It was an unassuming structure, looking like nothing more than a small straw hut with a simple wooden door.
The moment Zhao Hai’s hand brushed the door, a notification sounded: “Warehouse, level one. Used for item storage. No restrictions on variety or quantity. Items remain in peak condition while stored. Functionality extends outside the Space Farm. Current inventory: Six bags of pasture seeds.”
Upon hearing this, Zhao Hai visualized the pasture seeds. Immediately after the thought crossed his mind, six small cloth sacks materialized before him, each clearly labeled “pasture seeds.”
Stunned for a moment, Zhao Hai was quickly overcome with joy. He had been wondering how to operate the warehouse, but he never expected it to be this intuitive. It was fantastic.
He tried to push the warehouse door open, but it remained firmly shut. It seemed the physical building was merely decorative and could not be entered.
Wearing a satisfied smile, Zhao Hai returned to the straw hut and sat on the bed to take stock of his new assets. The soil here was incredibly fertile, and the water was perfectly potable. Furthermore, the environment accelerated crop growth by ten times, and using the water provided another tenfold boost. Good heavens—with this kind of power, he would never have to worry about starvation again.
The basket, shovel, bucket, and farm chemicals were all functional, and the pest and weed canes could even be used in the outside world. However, the warehouse was his greatest prize. Having a massive storage space was what truly thrilled him.
Recalling Adam’s memories, he knew that storage artifacts existed in this world. Space mages could craft them, but such mages were rare. Consequently, while storage tools existed on the continent, they were exclusive to the nobility. Commoners almost never laid eyes on them.
Even then, those tools couldn't compare to his warehouse. Most storage artifacts were small, with the largest being only a few hundred cubic meters—and those were considered divine relics. A space as limitless as his warehouse was unheard of.
Crucially, storage tools on the Ark Continent were incapable of holding living beings, yet this warehouse had no such restrictions. It could store anything in any quantity.
Beyond these features, he possessed six bags of pasture seeds and 500 gold coins. While he couldn't take the gold out yet, he could spend it in the Space Farm’s shop, which was more than enough for now.
Having reviewed the farm's introduction, Zhao Hai realized this place functioned much like the games from his past life. As his level increased, he would eventually be able to open a ranch and unlock more features.
Most importantly, he now controlled ten acres of land and a perpetual spring. These resources would allow him to find a way to revitalize the black soil of his fief, though his immediate priority was to plant these ten acres.
This thought brought a bitter smile to his face. In his previous life, he was a total otaku who had lived his entire life in the city. He had never touched a farm tool and could barely tell one grain from another. Being suddenly tasked with farming left him feeling completely out of his element.
Zhao Hai sent the pasture seeds back into the warehouse. He knew they were useless to him at the moment, though they would be vital once he unlocked the ranch. Right now, he needed food or crops that could be traded for currency.
He pulled up the shop interface, which was filled with images of various crops, their required levels, and their prices. It was identical to a game menu.
Browsing the interface, Zhao Hai confirmed that the mechanics were just like the games he knew. Since he was only level one, his options were limited to pasture seeds, radishes, carrots, and cabbages.
When he tried to select a level-two crop, a prompt immediately informed him that his level was insufficient. Zhao Hai nodded; it really was just like a game.
Out of the four available options, Zhao Hai chose the radish seeds without a second thought. A bag cost 150 gold coins and covered ten acres. Those ten acres could yield nearly 80,000 kilograms of radishes, which could be sold back to the system for 500 gold coins.
Based on local purchasing power, 500 gold coins were roughly equivalent to 50,000 RMB on Earth. This meant one gold coin was worth 100 RMB, a silver was 10 RMB, and a bronze was 1 RMB.
While radishes were profitable, cabbages and carrots actually offered better returns. However, Zhao Hai hadn't chosen radishes for the money—he chose them for the experience points.
From his experience with farm games, he knew that the humble radish provided the most experience during the cycle of tilling, planting, and harvesting. His primary goal was to level up as quickly as possible to expand his land. Besides, the profit from radishes was still respectable. It was the most logical choice for his current situation.
As an otaku, Zhao Hai hated leaving the house. Whenever he had to go out, he would plan everything meticulously to save time or finish tasks days in advance so he wouldn't have to leave again.
Over time, this had become a deeply ingrained habit. He would analyze every detail until he found the most efficient path and then stick to it.
He applied that same logic here. After careful calculation, he settled on radishes for the experience boost. The slight loss in potential profit was a small price to pay for faster progression.
Zhao Hai purchased a bag of radish seeds. Instead of appearing in his hands, they were sent to the warehouse. With a simple thought, a small, flat cloth bag appeared before him. It looked empty, but the moment his fingers touched the fabric, a notification triggered: “Radish seeds, one bag. Can be taken out of the Space Farm. Sufficient for 10 acres of land.”
Closing the shop menu, Zhao Hai walked back out into the field with the seeds. However, staring at the ten acres of land, he froze. He had the seeds, but he had no idea how to actually plant them. A shut-in like him knew nothing of manual labor. This was a serious problem.
Just as he was about to return the seeds to the warehouse in frustration, a bold thought struck him.
Everything in this Space Farm seemed to respond to his will. Although seeds cost gold, he had been given starting capital. It functioned like a game. If that were true, did he really have to do the physical labor himself?
Zhao Hai focused his mind on the act of planting the radishes. The moment he did, the seed bag slipped from his hand and hovered in the air. The shovel standing in the dirt suddenly moved on its own, digging a small hole. A seed flew from the bag into the pit, followed by the iron bucket, which rose to pour water over the spot. Finally, the shovel moved back to cover the hole with soil. The tools worked in perfect harmony, like a well-coordinated team. Zhao Hai didn't have to lift a finger.
Watching this, Zhao Hai burst into laughter. The Space Farm was incredible. He felt like a deity here; his every whim became reality. It was an intoxicating feeling.
Realizing the planting would take some time and fearing that Grimm might worry if he was gone too long, Zhao Hai decided to exit. With a thought, he was back in his room at the Iron Mountain castle. Looking out the window, the position of the sun hadn't changed much, and it seemed no one had entered the room. It appeared that time moved differently inside the Space Farm, or perhaps very little time had passed at all.
Zhao Hai wanted to shout with joy. With a cheat this powerful, he could at least live as a wealthy, carefree landlord in this world. Whether or not he helped Adam get revenge was a secondary concern; his priority was ensuring he lived a comfortable life.
Zhao Hai had to admit he wasn't particularly ambitious. He possessed the simple mindset of a small farmer—as long as his own life was good, he was content. Thoughts of restoring the Buda family's glory or seeking vengeance for Adam were merely bursts of temporary excitement. When he considered the terrifying power of the high nobility, he felt a shiver. If they could destroy the prestigious Buda family so easily, what hope did a small person like Zhao Hai have? They could crush him in an instant.
