Living In Another World With A Farm Chapter 4

Previously on Living In Another World With A Farm...
Zhao Hai wakes to the unsettling realization that he has fully assumed Adam’s identity after his transmigration. Guided by the old butler Grimm, he learns that they have arrived at the Black Soil Wilderness, a harsh and desolate region where scarce resources await. Despite Adam's previous associations with playboy antics, Zhao Hai adopts a more mature outlook, determined to stabilize their new lives with the meager assets they possess, including a hundred slaves. As he contemplates the surrounding bleak landscape, he resolves to cultivate this land, seeing it as an opportunity for redemption and growth in his new existence.

“The Space Farm system has been initialized. Linking to the Internet. Connection established successfully. Operational status is normal. Host detected. Analyzing host's condition. Host is stable. Binding to host complete.

Your current rank is Level 1. Starting rewards include 500 gold coins and six sacks of pasture seeds. Each sack is sufficient to sow one acre of ground. You currently possess a ten-acre plot of cultivated land, ranked at Level 0. Seeds can be purchased at the shop, and your harvest can be sold back to the shop for gold coins. Due to a network disruption, you may enter the farm at will, though communication is limited to the host only; social features are unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Zhao Hai stood motionless, his mind blank. It felt as if he were trapped in a dream. The entire situation felt completely surreal.

Nevertheless, that voice had been unmistakable. Had he still been on Earth, Zhao Hai would have dismissed it as a prank. Here, however, things were different. He had already undergone transmigration; at this point, what was left to disbelieve?

“Enter the farm,” Zhao Hai commanded within his mind.

The moment the words left his thoughts, his vision blurred. The stone walls of his castle vanished, replaced by an open clearing. It was a massive space, roughly ten acres in size, and the earth had already been tilled. Adjacent to the field sat a pristine shovel, a small spring, and a bucket. A modest straw hut stood nearby. To its left was a straw kennel, while beneath the hut’s window sat two containers. One was labeled ‘pesticide’ and the other ‘herbicide.’ A basket marked ‘collect’ rested beside them. To the right of the main hut was a smaller structure with a sign reading ‘warehouse.’ Beyond this clearing and the hut, a dense, impenetrable fog obscured everything else from view.

The layout was incredibly familiar to Zhao Hai. Aside from the lack of a background story, this was the exact setup of the game he knew best—the farm game!

Unlike many otakus who spent their time on various video games, Zhao Hai’s passion was reading and writing novels. Even though his royalties were meager, he found fulfillment in it and rarely played games.

Eventually, a friend had introduced him to a farm game. Because it was low-maintenance and easy to grasp, Zhao Hai had stuck with it. Prior to his transmigration, he had reached level 27. While not an elite rank, he had fully expanded his plots and even managed a ranch.

Anyone who had played the farm game from the start knew the system provided free land and a straw hut. The scene before him was a perfect replica of the game environment. The only difference was that instead of viewing it through a monitor, Zhao Hai was physically present inside the space.

Lost in a daze, Zhao Hai surveyed his surroundings, unsure of his next move. He eventually sat down and scooped up a handful of dirt.

As soon as he touched the earth, a voice resonated in his mind. “Space Land, Level 1. Cultivation complete. Crops sown here will grow ten times faster. Soil can be removed from the Space Farm to enhance external land.”

Zhao Hai froze, his confusion quickly turning into pure joy. He knew so little about this place, and now was the chance to learn. He rushed to the spring and dipped his hand into the water. Just as he expected, a notification triggered: “Space Spring Water, Level 1. Potable. Enhances the human physique. Can be used for irrigation to accelerate crop maturity by ten times. Can be taken out of the Space Farm to improve external land.”

Overwhelmed by this sudden stroke of luck, Zhao Hai began to giggle mindlessly, his hand forgotten in the cool water of the spring.

After a moment, he stood up and let out a boisterous laugh. “God, I never imagined you would be this kind to me! Hahaha, excellent! This is absolutely perfect!”

Zhao Hai was well aware that since arriving on the Ark Continent as someone unable to cultivate magic or battle aura, he was destined for a mediocre existence. Avenging Adam seemed like an impossible dream. But with this Space Farm, everything changed. Even if direct vengeance was out of reach, he could ensure the Buda family flourished once more. That, in itself, would be a way to settle Adam’s score.

It took some time for him to regain his composure. He first hurried to the shovel by the field, curious if it possessed the same magical properties as the game items.

The moment he touched the tool, the system spoke: “Shovel, Tool, Level 1. Capable of autonomous tilling. Efficiency: ten acres per day. Can be removed from the Space Farm for use.”

Zhao Hai beamed. He then moved to the bucket and touched it. The prompt returned: “Water bucket, Tool, Level 1. Capable of autonomous irrigation. Efficiency: 10 acres per day. Can be removed from the Space Farm for use.”

“Pesticide, farm chemical, Level 1. Toxic. Automatically eradicates pests. Not for consumption. Can be taken out of the Space Farm. Infinite supply.”

“Herbicide, farm chemical, Level 1. Toxic. Automatically eradicates weeds. Not for consumption. Can be taken out of the Space Farm. Infinite supply.”

“Basket, tool, level 1. Automatically harvests fruits and vegetables. Efficiency: 10 acres per day. Can be removed from the Space Farm. Harvested goods are automatically sent to the warehouse.”

Having inspected the exterior, Zhao Hai realized that while this place mirrored the farm game, it wasn't an exact replica. If anything, these modifications made it even more useful for his current needs.

Full of excitement, Zhao Hai entered the straw hut. It was small but fully furnished with the essentials: a wooden bed with a hay mattress, a table, four chairs, a storage cabinet, a stove, and a set of dishes. Most notably, a device resembling a computer monitor sat beside the bed.

He rushed to the screen and saw it was active, displaying only two icons: 'Shop' and 'Farm Introduction.'

Zhao Hai immediately selected the introduction. He was desperate to understand the origins of this farm and how it functioned.

The moment he tapped the icon, it transformed into a streak of white light that entered his forehead. A flood of data rushed into his mind. After a while, he managed to process the information and piece together the farm's origin.

Before arriving in this world, Zhao Hai had been playing the farm game. Somehow, the game had transmigrated with him. It had evolved, retaining its core mechanics while becoming significantly more powerful. The farm was now a system permanently bonded to him.

Essentially, while he couldn't browse Earth's internet, he had full access to the farm's features, including the shop. He could spend gold coins to buy supplies or sell his produce for profit. He could move items between the farm and the outside world at will.

Currently, the farm was only at level one, leaving many features locked. As he leveled up, he could unlock a ranch and expand his territory indefinitely. Experience points for leveling up could be earned through farming activities like planting, watering, or weeding. Additionally, bringing external items into the Space Farm could trigger evolutions or grant experience. This meant Zhao Hai could use unique resources from the Ark Continent to upgrade the system. In short, he had been granted a god-tier cheat.

Zhao Hai felt like shouting for joy. With such a powerful advantage, success was guaranteed. Avenging Adam and restoring the Buda family was no longer a pipe dream. A daring strategy began to take shape in his mind.

He could utilize the Space soil and spring water to reclaim the wasteland of the Black Soil Wilderness. This would provide him with an enormous agricultural empire. Once he had the resources, he could gather followers and grow into a formidable power. Then, he could finally settle the debts owed to the Buda family...

Eventually, Zhao Hai snapped back to reality. He shook his head, laughing at his own tendency to get ahead of himself. Now wasn't the time for grand schemes; he needed to master the basics first.

With that thought, he opened the shop icon. A voice immediately greeted him: “Welcome to the Space Shop. How may I assist you today?”

The screen displayed images of various Earth crops, complete with their prices and level requirements. Realizing it functioned exactly like the game, Zhao Hai closed the window and continued exploring the hut.

He eventually approached the cabinet. He doubted it was merely decorative, but he was initially disappointed when touching it triggered no response. However, upon opening it, he found three items: a cloth pouch and two short canes—one with a handle shaped like a larva and the other like a blade of grass. Zhao Hai immediately guessed their functions.

He grabbed the pouch first. As expected, the system chimed: “Money bag, stores gold coins. Unlimited capacity. Contains 500 gold coins. Due to your low level, gold coins cannot be withdrawn from the Space Farm.”

Zhao Hai froze, then broke into a grin. Despite the brief description, he understood the implication. This bag functioned like an interspatial storage device specifically for currency. But the most important detail was the final sentence. If he couldn't withdraw gold now because his level was too low, it implied that at a higher level, he could bring that wealth into the outside world. If that were true, the possibilities were endless.
