Living In Another World With A Farm Chapter 6
Previously on Living In Another World With A Farm...
Maintain a low profile, I absolutely must stay under the radar!
Having consumed a vast number of transmigration novels, Zhao Hai was acutely aware that failing to keep a low profile in a foreign world usually led to a grim fate. He considered those stories to be mere delusions; the only reason those protagonists could dominate their surroundings was due to the author's intervention and plot armor. If an individual remained arrogant in a completely alien environment, the results would surely be catastrophic.
Zhao Hai stood as the final successor of the Buda family. They had, unfortunately, antagonized the most powerful factions within the Aksu Empire. In such a predicament, if he failed to maintain a low profile, he would likely be the first person targeted for elimination.
Even though the Space Farm offered a sanctuary, there were countless methods to assassinate someone. Zhao Hai had no desire to have his life ended while he slept.
While Zhao Hai was lost in these reflections, a knock sounded at the door. Startled for a moment, he quickly called out, “Come in.”
Meg opened the door and entered. Her gaze remained fixed on the floor, avoiding Zhao Hai’s eyes. She performed a bow and greeted him, “Young Master,” before falling silent.
Observing Meg’s behavior, Zhao Hai could only manage a bitter smile. Her refusal to look at him stemmed from Adam’s past attempts to harass her because of her beauty. Although he hadn't succeeded, Meg had avoided Adam ever since. Even during necessary encounters, she would simply lower her head, address him as Young Master, and depart immediately.
Zhao Hai let out a sigh. Although these were Adam’s transgressions, he was the one forced to deal with the fallout. Heavens, what a mess to inherit.
Looking toward Meg, Zhao Hai sighed again. “I am alright. You should go rest. I intend to sleep for a bit; just wake me when dinner is ready.”
Meg gave a nod and withdrew, quietly closing the door behind her. Watching her flee as if escaping a threat, Zhao Hai smiled wryly.
Since his physical condition had fully recovered and he felt no lingering discomfort, his claim of needing rest was merely a pretext. He needed time to organize Adam’s memories to ensure nothing important was overlooked. Furthermore, the possession of the Space Farm was a massive boon for his future. He needed to strategize on how to maximize the utility of this Space Farm.
Currently, radishes were growing in his space farm. Selling these to the internal shop would yield at least 500 gold coins, resulting in a profit of 350 gold coins.
Alternatively, he could withdraw these radishes from the storage and have Grimm sell them across the Ark Continent. This route might potentially bring in even more gold coins.
The primary issue, however, was his ignorance regarding whether radishes even existed on the Ark Continent. Given Adam’s past as a wasteful noble, he had never stepped foot in a market. He had only consumed gourmet meals without ever questioning the ingredients, leaving Zhao Hai unsure if radishes were a known vegetable here.
If the radishes couldn't be sold locally, he would simply sell them back to the system shop. Radishes were versatile; the system likely only collected the root, leaving the leaves behind. Radish leaves were actually quite tasty and could be turned into a treat if pickled correctly.
Raised in northern China, Zhao Hai vividly recalled his mother using salted radish leaves in her cooking during his childhood. The flavor was excellent.
Additionally, those leaves could serve as fodder for herbivores. If radishes were unknown in this world, they could sell the roots and use the greens to raise livestock. According to Adam’s memories, certain magical beasts were low-maintenance and would eat almost anything. If they could raise those beasts in bulk, they would secure a steady meat supply. Establishing a ranch would naturally increase their overall revenue.
Even if radishes were common and cheap in this world, he could still sell them to the system and keep the foliage. Regardless of the scenario, nothing would go to waste.
Due to his current low level, Zhao Hai was unable to unlock the ranch feature within the Space Farm. However, he could start a ranch on the Ark Continent first. Once the Space Farm reached a higher level, he could then utilize it to raise animals from Earth.
Zhao Hai had reached a conclusion: his path to prosperity would be built on farming. Since the Space Farm lacked combat capabilities, agriculture was his most viable option.
He now possessed a vast fiefdom, including a mountain, the land of death, and the Carrion Swamp. While these were his territories, transforming them into productive land would require significant time.
Zhao Hai held onto the hope that the soil and water from the Space Farm could truly revitalize the Black Soil Wilderness. If that worked, he would have an immense area for Cultivation. After all, land was the ultimate foundation.
Manpower was not a concern for Zhao Hai, as he knew this world contained a class of people that didn't exist on Earth: slaves.
While Earth had abolished slavery, it was a reality here. With enough coin, one could purchase numerous slaves whose lives were entirely in your hands. They were bound to absolute loyalty and couldn't run away, as every slave bore the specific brand of the family that bought them. Any attempt to flee resulted in a horrific end.
Thus, as long as his farm generated profit, labor would not be an issue. Slaves were plentiful on the continent; as long as the price was right, nobles were more than willing to sell people into servitude.
In this world, the nobility owned everything. It was that simple.
However, given Zhao Hai’s current predicament, a sudden purchase of many slaves would surely draw unwanted attention. Therefore, he had to remain inconspicuous. Staying low was his strategy, and farming was his primary goal.
Having settled on this, Zhao Hai breathed a sigh of relief and lay back on the bed. The situation still felt surreal. He had been a typical otaku on Earth, and while he enjoyed stories about transmigration, he never actually wanted to experience it. Yet, here he was.
Heavens, taking an otaku away from his computer is like turning a lecher into a eunuch. It’s truly heartless.
Zhao Hai sighed as he collapsed onto the bed. Staring up at the stone ceiling, he lamented the total lack of entertainment. How was he supposed to pass the time? What about his webnovels?
Perhaps because of the mental strain from absorbing memories and the excitement of the Space Farm, Zhao Hai’s initial adrenaline faded into deep exhaustion. Before he knew it, he had drifted back to sleep.
Unaware of his surroundings, the door quietly opened after he fell asleep. Meg peeked inside and, seeing him resting, stepped in silently to pull a blanket over him. She stood by the bedside for a moment, looking at him with a sigh. “Young Master, you must persevere. The future of the Buda family rests on your shoulders,” she whispered.
With those words, she turned and left, closing the door behind her.
As she exited, Grimm approached and looked at her. “Meg, how is the young master? What has he been doing?”
“Nothing,” Meg replied. “He is sleeping.”
Grimm nodded. “Go check if your grandmother has finished the meal. When it is ready, wake the young master for dinner. Sigh, now that we are in this state, we must set aside noble etiquette.” He shook his head and walked away.
Meg watched her grandfather walk off, understanding his pain. Grimm had dedicated his entire life to the Buda family, only to watch it crumble. How could he not be devastated?
Meg headed toward the kitchen. Merlyn was the only cook, but she only prepared meals for their small group. She wasn't responsible for the slaves outside; Grimm had already distributed raw ingredients to them so they could cook for themselves.
Meg approved of this. Slaves usually lived miserable lives, but here they were treated better. They might not have luxury, but they were allowed to eat their fill—a rarity under other nobles.
Meg saw the reality clearly. The Buda family was currently being held together by her grandfather. The Young Master, Adam, was completely clueless. She could only hope that he would become sensible and stop his reckless behavior. If not, the Buda family truly had no future.
Even if Adam became serious, he had a mountain of things to learn. Previously, he was just a spoiled youth defined by ignorance and lack of skill. He possessed zero experience in family management. If he was willing to learn, there was a chance. But if he remained stubborn and tried to lead blindly, they would be ruined within a few years.
The Buda family might not have been the wealthiest, but they were still nobility. Although they had been sentenced, their liquid assets hadn't been seized. They had arrived with roughly 100,000 gold coins—a significant amount.
However, that money had already been spent on essential supplies, leaving them with just over 100 gold coins. If Adam continued his wasteful habits, they would soon face starvation.
Now, every action Adam took would decide the fate of the Buda family.
