Isekai Nonbiri Nouka Chapter 1062: Yame and the Developing Island
Previously on Isekai Nonbiri Nouka...
My name is Yame.
The village chief is apparently coming to the island, so everyone on the expedition team is busy making various preparations.
Hmm…?
What are they preparing for?
Isn’t it enough to just say, ‘Welcome to the island’?
I’m preparing tea, though.
……
I tried some of the tea I prepared, and it tasted awful.
That’s strange.
I used the same ingredients and made it the same way.Could it be because my palate has gotten used to the food in Big Tree Village and Village Five?
Now I understand why Ursa and the others spit out my tea.
There’s no way I can serve this.
I’m glad I tried it first.
I’ll think of something else.

The village chief arrived on the island.
……
Why did he come by sailing ship?
What happened to teleportation magic?
Ancestor-san sent me and the expedition team here by teleportation magic this morning, didn’t he?
Could it be that the village chief isn’t good at traveling by teleportation magic?
If so, why not use an airship?
Or come riding on Rana-san.
Hmm. I don’t understand why he chose to use a sailing ship.
It’s a different design from the flying ship in Big Tree Village called the Universal Ship.
And it can’t be to check the port’s functionality, since the port isn’t finished yet.

Anyway, the village chief boarded a small boat lowered from the sailing ship and landed on the island.
The village chief was carrying a long harpoon.
Since it was made of wood, he might have made it himself.
A large number of Inferno Wolves and Demon Spiders also came ashore on small boats alongside the village chief.
They’re keeping an eye on their surroundings, but I don’t think there’s anything here that would actually require them to show their strength.
Ursa and the ice monster were there too.
There were also large numbers of high elves, mountain elves, and lizardmen, several elder dwarves, several beastkins, and several oni maids.
They just kept coming ashore.
There’s no way all these people can fit inside the inn base.
Will that be okay?
Ah, more angels arrived too.
About thirty of them.
They must have been keeping watch over the sailing ship from above.
They were hidden in the clouds, so I didn’t notice them.
And on top of that, hundreds of seakins came in from the sea.
The island is overflowing with people.

After most of the people had come ashore, the village chief drove his harpoon into the sand.
The harpoon slowly fell over.
……
Maybe he hadn’t driven it in deep enough?
It is a beach, after all.
The village chief picked up the harpoon and drove it into the sand again.
This time, several Demon Spiders supported it with multiple strands of webbing so it wouldn’t fall over again.
Several Inferno Wolves sat down around the base of the harpoon to hold it in place.
Clever.
After confirming that the harpoon wouldn’t fall, the village chief declared that landing on the island.
Though plenty of people had already landed.
I guess it was some kind of ceremony, so I didn’t question it.
A little while later, a flag was raised on the watchtower.
Apparently, it was the flag of Big Tree Village.
I see.
Ah, but wasn’t that watchtower built with the assumption that it might be destroyed?
Is that really okay?
They’ll put the flag somewhere sturdier later.
Yeah, that sounds better.

After inspecting the inn base and its surroundings, the village chief headed toward the center of the island with Gulf, the beastkin, showing him the way.
With high elves and angels accompanying them, there was no chance they’d get lost.
The Inferno Wolves and Demon Spiders went along with them too.
Those who didn’t accompany the village chief prepared for a banquet near the inn base.
Actually, they prepared it on the beach.
Probably because of the seakins.
Ah, the waves reach about this far, so you should build the fire a little farther inland.
Also, the seafood the seakins brought will spoil quickly unless you keep it in the shade…
The ice monster produced ice, piled it up, and covered the seafood with it.
The ice monster really is useful.

The village chief and the others returned around sunset.
The village chief looked satisfied after seeing everything.
I’m glad he wasn’t disappointed.
And then came the banquet.
The alcohol that had been brought over was distributed, followed by a great chorus of cheers.
I’m not very good with alcohol, though.
I’ll have mine mixed with juice.
Just a little alcohol is enough for me.

The enormous amount of ingredients that had been brought over were turned into lavish dishes one after another.
The oni maids leading the cooking seemed to accomplish far more than their numbers should have allowed.
Amazing.
As for me… I ate at a table with the high elves, angels, and lizardmen who had been part of the expedition team.
Everything was delicious.
Some of the dishes should be safe for the birds to eat too, so I’d like to give them some.
If there’s any left over, I’ll ask.
-0-
There was none left.
Well, with the Inferno Wolves and Demon Spiders around, not to mention all the Seakins, it couldn’t be helped.
I apologized to the birds and gave them some hard nuts to crack open instead.
There were eggs in the nests inside the birds’ hut.
Looks like there’ll be even more birds soon.

And then night came.
I wondered where everyone was going to stay, but the residents of Big Tree Village, including the village chief, returned to Big Tree Village, while the Seakin returned to the sea.
That was fine, but they used teleportation magic to return to Big Tree Village.
?
Couldn’t they have just used teleportation magic to come here in the first place?
The sailing ship the village chief had arrived on had already departed before I even noticed.
-0-
The next day.
The village chief came to the island again.
Using teleportation magic.
Huh?
Then what was that sailing ship yesterday?
I was curious enough to ask, and apparently it had been the village chief’s decision.
Well, if that’s the case, then I suppose that’s that.
I’ll just accept it.
No need to question it any further.
The village chief wasn’t alone this time. There were Inferno Wolves, Demon Spiders, High Elves, Mountain Elves, Lizardmen, and Angels with him.
About half as many as yesterday, I think.
It seemed Ursa and the Ice Monster weren’t coming this time.

The village chief was going to build a house near the center of the island.
The location had already been chosen by the expedition team.
I was consulted about it too, and I didn’t think it was a bad location.
There was just one problem with the path leading there.
Was that really okay?
……
Apparently, it was.
For some reason, there was now a road where there hadn’t been one yesterday.
When did that happen?
Who made it?
-0-
Apparently, the village chief was also going to build a house near the inn base.
The house near the center would be for private use, while the one near the inn base would be for official business.
Several High Elves were stretching ropes around the area to mark the construction site.
Ah, so when they were building the inn base, they had already been planning where to put the plaza and main streets.
So this area will be for shops?
And houses for individuals will line up over here.
Thinking about it that way, the inn base really might become a proper inn someday.
Huh?
Does that mean I’ll be kicked out of the inn?
It’s alright?
You’re going to prepare a house for me too?
Yay.

The excavation of the seabed near the harbor was progressing smoothly.
Apparently, the Seakin’s cooperation was a major factor.
Yuri, who was piloting the underwater Arti-Horse Aqua, said that the Seakin’s instructions were precise and made things much easier.
Several of the harbor’s most important facilities, warehouses, had already been built.
Just like the inn base, the warehouses were kept low to protect them from the wind, which meant they had limited storage capacity.
They considered digging out the floors and making the warehouses partially underground, but I rejected the idea because they would flood whenever a wave came in.
So they decided to dig caves into the cliffs a little farther from the harbor and use them as additional warehouses.
I thought digging out caves would be a lot of work, but before I knew it, a row of beautiful caves had appeared.
Seriously, when did that happen?
The High Elves were already making doors to seal off the entrances to the caves.
-0-
Railway.
The village chief was strangely enthusiastic about it and proposed building a railway connecting the inn base to the harbor.
I didn’t really understand what a railway was, but they showed me a miniature version, and then I understood.
It would make transporting things much easier.
But wouldn’t the parts called rails rust if they’re so close to the sea?
A Beastman blacksmith was researching iron that was resistant to rust?
They were going to use a prototype?
If the village chief was fine with it, then I was fine with it too.
-0-
The cave base that I had been using as my home.
They decided to place statues of the God of Creation and Farming God there.
It was certainly a safe place, considering how long I had been using it.
I had no reason to object.
There was just one problem. The birds had been living in the cave base, so there were traces of droppings everywhere.
They had adjusted the positions of the perches so that the birds would mostly leave their droppings in designated areas, but there was only so much that could be cleaned.
Since they were going to place statues of the gods there, we couldn’t just leave it like that.
We needed to clean it thoroughly.
I thought I’d have to do it myself, but the High Elves, Mountain Elves, Lizardmen, and Angels all helped.
There’s strength in numbers.
It was finished in no time.
Thank you.
The statues of the gods were enshrined.

The village chief asked for some of my tea.
My tea? The tea I had served Ursa?
Did you hear about it from Ursa?
It tastes terrible.
I’ve finally realized that myself recently.
Sure, I have the ingredients, so I can make some, but…
I really don’t think you should drink it.
The village chief tried to keep himself from spitting it out after drinking it.
That’s why I warned you.
But why did he look a little happy about it?

AN: Next time, I think we’ll return to the village chief’s point of view.
TN: Does that mean the longest side character POV arc has ended?
