The sound of that voice caused Yuan Bo to shake with intense trepidation.
He instantly ceased his movements, his gaze darting toward Manager Li with visible panic.
In contrast, Manager Li remained entirely composed. He signaled for Yuan Bo to stay close and then took the initiative to walk toward the exit.
Maintaining a submissive silence, Yuan Bo followed tightly behind him.
Outside the cottage, Senior Han had already descended from the sky. His expression was dark and his eyes were like ice as he stared down Manager Li.
The moment he stepped out, Manager Li fixed a glare on Han Jing and spoke first, demanding an explanation:
“Han Jing, what is the meaning of your outburst?”
“I am simply visiting one of my subordinates. What business is that of yours?”
Han Jing responded to this with a contemptuous snort.
“Hmph…”
“Is that truly the case?”
Manager Li pressed on, “Lin Jing was under my command, after all. My heart is heavy now that an unfortunate accident has led to his expulsion from the Sect.”
“I merely wished to check if he required any assistance, as is the duty of fellow Sect members. Is such a thing forbidden?”
Ignoring the excuse, Han Jing asked coldly, “Where is he?”
Upon his arrival, Han Jing had sensed that Lin Jing was absent from the house. Furthermore, the lack of any bloody scent suggested that they had not yet made their move against the boy.
“He wasn't here when we arrived, though his belongings remain. It appears he had some business to attend to and stepped out for a moment.”
Han Jing stared directly into Manager Li’s eyes. Seeing that the man appeared calm and showed no signs of deception, the Senior's expression softened slightly.
He then addressed Manager Li directly:
“Do not assume I am blind to your schemes. You are after the Foundation Building Elixir that Lin Yue obtained, are you not?”
“So, it really is because of the Foundation Building Elixir.” Lin Jing, watching from his secret vantage point, finally understood the situation.
Manager Li’s actions were driven by the belief that he possessed such a pill.
“That is likely the reason I was kicked out of the Sect as well.”
“Once I am outside the Sect's protection, he could easily shadow me and kill me to seize the elixir.”
However, Lin Jing knew the truth; when his predecessor’s father passed away, he had left nothing behind but a few final words. He had no idea where Manager Li had gotten such misinformation.
“How did he find out?” Manager Li wondered, his heart skipping a beat in surprise.
Despite his internal shock, he maintained his facade of ignorance.
“What Foundation Building Elixir? Senior Han, you are surely mistaken. I only wanted to see if Lin Jing needed help before his departure.”
Han Jing ignored Manager Li’s continued feigning of innocence and went on:
“Whether you admit it or not, I am warning you: abandon those thoughts immediately.”
“Lin Yue gave that Foundation Building Elixir to me long ago. How else do you think I successfully reached the Foundation Establishment stage?”
“Because I owe Lin Yue a debt of gratitude, it is my responsibility to look after his son. I did not interfere when you orchestrated his expulsion from the Sect, but if you seek to take his life, I will not stand idly by.”
Manager Li felt a wave of bitterness wash over him, realizing his elaborate schemes had been for nothing. The Foundation Building Elixir was long gone.
Still, he kept his face neutral, pretending to have no knowledge of the pill whatsoever.
“I have made my position clear. If you lay a finger on Lin Jing again, do not blame me for being ruthless.”
Manager Li continued his act, responding with an air of righteous indignation:
“Senior Han, we are brothers of the same Sect. I have always regarded him as a Junior Brother; why would I ever wish him harm?”
Observing this, Lin Jing couldn't help but feel a sense of begrudging respect for Manager Li’s acting skills. A person without the facts would surely have been fooled by that performance.
However, Han Jing’s next words made Lin Jing’s blood run cold.
“If that is the case, we shall wait here for him to return.”
“Very well.”
Seeing Han Jing’s resolve, Manager Li found it impossible to refuse.
The group entered the cottage together, where Yuan Bo quickly moved to light the oil lamp on the table.
The three of them sat in heavy silence within Lin Jing’s small thatched hut, waiting for his return.

“There’s a cost?” Lin Jing was too exhausted to even complain, especially since his Harvest Points were currently at zero.
Before he could ask anything else, a new system notification appeared.
“The system notes the host has 0 Harvest Points. It is suggested that the host breaks through to the second level of Qi Refinement. (Note: Achieving a breakthrough within the System Space will award Harvest Points.)”
“It’s really pushing me to advance my Cultivation.”
Checking the clock, he saw he had just over an hour remaining.
Wasting no time, Lin Jing calmed his mind and body, centering himself to prepare for the breakthrough.
Time slipped away as Lin Jing felt his breath reach a peak, though a thin barrier seemed to block his progress.

This unexpected windfall stunned Lin Jing. He hadn't expected such a generous newcomer's bonus.
With the 10 points from his breakthrough and the 100-point bonus, his total stood at 110 Harvest Points.
Lin Jing recalled that 100 points were needed to level up the System Space.
“System, show my status panel.”
The interface appeared, confirming that an upgrade was now possible.

At his command, the System Space began to vibrate and shift. The most striking change was the visible expansion of the boundaries as the area grew larger.
The concentration of Qi within the space also became noticeably thicker.
The transformation lasted for ten minutes.
When the process finished, a chime echoed in his mind.

“Upgrade complete. The System Space is now Level 2.”
