I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse Chapter 1984: Hye’s Ambitious and Crazy Plan
Previously on I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse...
Moth found it hard to believe that a newly emerged force like Hye’s, particularly led by someone not from a renowned race, would display such formidable combat capabilities. If Hye’s forces were already formidable in their home universe for reasons that eluded Moth and the other Hescos elites, he had transformed into an absolute juggernaut in this new world.
"We need to have a discussion, and quickly."
Just as Moth and the other Hescos elites anticipated Hye would revel in their decisive triumph, the human approached Moth with an unexpected proposition.
"You intend to divide the spoils of war—not just the remnants of fallen combatants from this engagement, but the territories and strongholds of various races and factions awaiting us in the Outer Battlefield’s waiting area?!!"
Moth was utterly astonished by the sheer audacity of the human before him. Even with insight into Hye’s strategic reasoning for selecting his next objectives, Moth could never have conceived of such a bold move. It wasn't due to a lack of ambition or fear of other races; the fundamental issue was the insufficient number of their own forces to adequately secure and defend any newly acquired territories. What was the point of seizing additional bases today only to relinquish them tomorrow, along with a significant portion of their own forces?
Moth began to carefully articulate these concerns to Hye, mistakenly believing the human would reconsider his grand ambitions and settle for the substantial victory they had just achieved. However, he was profoundly mistaken. Hye’s determination had been vastly underestimated.
"That might pose a problem for you," Hye stated casually, "but for someone like me, a shortage of forces is simply not an issue."
"This goes beyond merely deploying warriors using tokens," Moth retorted, momentarily stunned into silence before continuing. "Listen, this is not the universe we originated from; this is the Outer Battlefield. The unwritten rule here is that without a cultivation base, without having cultivated, one is utterly insignificant in this realm..."
"I am aware," Hye replied, maintaining his maddeningly calm and infuriatingly pleasant smile. "That's precisely why I'm telling you: for me, this presents no challenge whatsoever."
Moth fell silent once more, this time for a more extended period. He found himself questioning whether Hye had suffered a head injury or if he was genuinely serious.
"If you are absolutely set on this course of action, then claim any base you desire," Moth conceded with exhaustion. "We cannot afford to stretch our already depleted forces any thinner. We have incurred substantial losses today. Despite this victory, we have lost many individuals who were considered the core of our strength in this world."
"That is of no concern to me, but I appreciate your magnanimity," Hye responded, his face alight with a radiant smile. "If you’ll permit me, I shall depart now. Numerous bases await my conquest, and many battles remain to be fought. Until we meet again."
Observing Hye move away without a backward glance, summoning all his forces and rapidly heading in a single direction after receiving a map from Moth, left everyone present bewildered and utterly perplexed.
"You don’t seriously believe he’s being literal, do you?" one of Moth’s most trusted confidantes ventured, voicing the collective bewilderment.
Moth let out a heavy sigh.
"This human... He is anything but careless or impulsive," Moth murmured, his gaze sweeping across the surroundings as he wrestled with the conflict between his instinct to pursue Hye and comply with the human's demands, and the dictates of reason and logic. Ultimately, he had to concede to their present predicament.
Even though this was a victory, the cost had been too high; they had lost too many valuable assets that his race and empire had invested immense time and effort in cultivating. The victory felt hollow this time. Yet, he couldn't help but feel an overwhelming curiosity to witness Hye's next move, to see how he would stand against other races once their primary forces returned from their external expeditions.
"Dispatch a contingent to accompany the human's forces," Moth commanded. "Have them relay every action the humans undertake. Let us keep them under close observation and ascertain their performance across various fronts."
Moth wished he could join but was unable. Therefore, he deployed his spies and awaited further intelligence, before redirecting his complete focus back to rectifying the damage inflicted by the recent conflict. The losses were immense, and he knew recovery would be a protracted process. Fortunately, should Hye achieve another one of his improbable miracles, the Hescos within this world might gain a reprieve—a period to strengthen themselves and mend what had been broken.
This was precisely why Moth was eager to observe Hye's endeavors, to gauge his prowess against the inevitable retaliation from other hostile forces. Capturing numerous bases was no longer the primary challenge; retaining them was the true hurdle.
Hye departed the Hescos sector and, soon after, the entire base, accompanied by his entire retinue. In truth, had Moth attempted to physically restrain him, Hye would have engaged his ally to ensure he didn't forfeit this invaluable opportunity. To Hye, this represented the most significant advantage he had secured through his own efforts and capabilities, and he was determined not to let it slip away under any circumstances.
During their journey, or rather, their rapid transit, Hye meticulously explained his strategies to Sara and Olana. He even summoned Lucas, ensuring that his three most trusted commanders were fully apprised of his plans."The strategy is straightforward," Hye declared. "We've secured twenty-six distinct bases belonging to various races we've conquered in this recent conflict. While these races didn't commit their entire populations, the majority of their elite forces participated in this battle. Consequently, these bases are now vulnerable and ripe for the taking." "However..." Olana was the first to voice her thoughts. Different from the other two, she hailed from a wealthy background and possessed a broader understanding than anyone on Hye's side. "Taking them might be easy, but holding onto them presents a significant challenge. Remember, these factions have a substantial portion of their strongest armies deployed elsewhere. As soon as word spreads – and it inevitably will – these returning armies will fight fiercely to reclaim their territories." "I am aware of that possibility," Hye responded, a touch surprised that such a detail was common knowledge to Olana. Yet, recalling her affluent origins, his surprise quickly faded. "We have more than sufficient warriors to garrison each base. Furthermore, these returning forces won't arrive simultaneously. We'll establish communication portals connecting these locations, reinforcing the most heavily contested areas while gradually exhausting the enemy forces."
