I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 988: Heat Death
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
In the blink of an eye, Peyton had appeared outside the ship-plane.
Before him, thousands upon thousands of enormous figures were closing fast through the void.
The eighth-level behemoths noticed the wizard who had suddenly appeared and changed course at once; several leader-level individuals at the front even accelerated outright, meaning to be the first to crush Peyton.
As they saw it, against this one enemy, their side held an absolute advantage in combat power.
Seeing this, Peyton raised a hand.
“Just right. Let me try,” he said quietly.
Then he tapped his index finger lightly forward, and a wisp of white mist drifted from his fingertip.
At first the mist was unremarkable, producing no strong energy fluctuation at all.
But the instant it appeared, it spread rapidly in every direction with Peyton at its center.
The white mist did not look at all imposing, yet when it touched the foremost scaled beast, that continent-sized behemoth suddenly stopped.
Its energy structure, which had been running at high speed, abruptly lost its activity, and the scales covering its body quickly lost their luster.
Then its enormous body, as if all its vitality had been drained away, began to dissipate bit by bit from the edges.
And the white mist showed no sign of stopping, still expanding outward at tremendous speed.
Even the colossal scaled beast leaders, in the instant they tried to launch their attacks, were engulfed by the white mist and lost the ability to move.
The energy circulation inside them rapidly stalled, their life structures collapsed, and before long their auras were gone.
As for the seventh-level servants following around the behemoths, they met their deaths without even a chance to struggle.
And so an entire behemoth army, one capable of threatening the expeditionary force, was swallowed by the white mist in a few short moments.
On the bridge, Jack’s eyes went wide; he even wondered whether he had seen wrong.
Those were eighth-level behemoths!
“What power is that?” Jack could not help muttering to himself.
The True-False Void-Piercing Pupil ran at full power, trying to make out the essence of that white mist.
At the very start, Jie Ming took it for some kind of low-temperature law.
After all, the mist did not destroy its targets directly, nor did it cause any obvious energy explosion; instead, it made everything it touched rapidly lose its activity.
Judging by surface appearances, it was easy to think of the freezing effect of extreme cold on the motion of energy.
But he soon noticed that the edges of the behemoths engulfed in the mist were growing unstable, even drifting away continuously like vapor.
That showed the elemental structures inside them were losing the ability to maintain their own form; matter and energy that had existed stably could no longer hold their original structure, and turned into particles that scattered into the void.
Jie Ming turned to look at the regions covered by the mist.
The elemental turbulence and spatial turbulence that had been churning there, once they touched the mist, likewise quickly stopped moving, as if they had lost the ability to keep moving.
Jie Ming’s pupils contracted slightly. “Is that… the Heat Death Law?”
From these characteristics, he recognized the power the other man was using.
Although the name “heat death” carried the word “heat,” what it pointed to was no high-temperature phenomenon.
In the thermodynamic sense, heat death describes the state in which a system tends toward maximum entropy and its usable energy differentials gradually vanish.
In an extremely idealized picture of the universe, when the distribution of matter and energy tends toward uniformity and the system no longer contains macroscopic differentials sufficient to drive sustained work, it enters the so-called state of heat death.
In theory, a world in a state of heat death would hold at a level close to absolute zero.
In other words, Peyton’s law stripped its targets of the energy differentials they needed to maintain their own structure and motion.
Energy could no longer flow effectively, elemental circulation stalled, and material structures lost their former stability.
Whether the life activity inside the behemoths or the elemental turbulence in the surrounding space, once fully covered by this white mist, it would rapidly go toward stillness and collapse.
It looked quiet, yet it guided everything within it toward its end.
Jie Ming looked at the still-spreading mist, and could not help feeling moved.
It seemed the artificial intelligence Felix had made its selection deliberately.
Wizard Peyton’s power was especially suited to this battlefield; against behemoths that fought by relying on enormous bodies, powerful energy circulation and the ability to keep active, it could even be called a hard counter.
And the reason Peyton could so easily unleash such a terrifying attack was not merely that he was a senior eighth-level wizard. More importantly, he was also using the new version of Leap Power that Jie Ming had provided.
Only with the two stacked together had it produced such an outrageous effect.
The already formidable combat power of a senior eighth-level wizard, with the new version of Leap Power layered on top, was what it took to cause such a terrifying effect.
With the old version, Peyton could certainly still have suppressed this behemoth army, but he might not have been able to wipe them all out so quickly.
In the endless chaotic void, the white mist gradually drew back in.
The behemoth army that had blotted out the sky had lost all signs of life, leaving only scattered remains drifting in the void.
Peyton hovered there, looking down at his own palm, and surprise showed in his expression too.
“So this is the new version of Leap Power…” Peyton said in a low voice, a flicker of excitement surfacing in his eyes.
He had already known he was strong, but he had truly never imagined he could be this strong!
And all of it was thanks to the new version of Leap Power.
“If… this technology could keep developing further…”
Daydreaming freely to himself, he withdrew his power and turned back toward the ship-plane.
By then, Jie Ming was already waiting there.
“Wizard Peyton, the effect you showed just now was astonishing.”
Jie Ming called up the recording device straightaway.
“I’d like to know exactly what it felt like when you used the new version of Leap Power. Especially, after you got the amplification, the efficiency of energy mobilization, the coverage of your law, and the change in consumption while sustaining output.”
Peyton understood at once what Jie Ming meant. “Of course.”
He described his sensations from just now one by one, while Jie Ming carefully recorded every detail beside him.
This was exactly the data he needed.
Only feedback from a real battlefield could tell him whether this technology was truly complete.
Especially from a senior eighth-level wizard like Peyton, who specialized in large-scale suppression: the data he provided had great research value for Jie Ming’s further refinement of Leap Power’s combat applications.
“Very good.”
Jie Ming looked at the newly recorded data with an air of satisfaction. “It seems this new version of the technology has no major problems, at least on an individual.”
Peyton smiled. “It’s my honor to be of help to Wizard Jie Ming.”
Then he turned his attention back to the navigation interface ahead.
The ship-plane readjusted its heading and, on Peyton’s orders, continued on toward the target region.
