I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 986: The Legion, the Voyage

As the light of the teleportation array faded, the figures of Jie Ming, Jack and Dixon appeared on a broad metal platform.
The moment they came through, they felt a strong elemental fluctuation coming from all around.
Jie Ming looked up and found that what lay beyond the platform was no ordinary building.
In the distance, metal walls extended to both sides along some curve, with tens of thousands of rune nodes distributed across them in an interlocking pattern, forming a system of astonishing scale.
“Oh? A ship-plane. That really takes me back. It feels like it’s been ages since I last had anything to do with a ship-plane.” Jie Ming was full of feeling.
A so-called ship-plane was a complete plane refitted into a mobile base capable of traveling through the endless chaotic void.
It could house large numbers of wizards, provide basic energy, space and living support, and when necessary serve as the expeditionary force’s temporary command center.
But ever since Wizard Starfall’s Awakening Technique had appeared, planes that had already been discarded had regained extremely high value.
With the value of discarded planes rising with the tide, the number of new ship-planes being built had naturally fallen a great deal.
But the wizard civilization had already built large numbers of ship-planes before that, and this one, Jie Ming estimated, was likewise built in earlier days.
Jie Ming had only been looking around for a moment when a party of wizards came walking toward them.
The three at their head were existences giving off powerful auras, clearly having reached the level of eighth-level wizards.
One of them, a tall middle-aged wizard, spoke first. “Welcome to the expeditionary force, Wizard Jie Ming. I am Peyton, in charge of commanding this joint legion. These two are my colleagues, Alvis and Meridian.”
“Wizard Peyton, Wizard Alvis, Wizard Meridian. A pleasure to meet you three.” Jie Ming greeted each of the three in turn. “I am Jie Ming. As for the specific task, Felix should already have passed it on to you.”
There was not a trace of an eighth-level wizard’s arrogance on Peyton’s face. “Of course. Though I never expected that we’d be able to be of help to Wizard Jie Ming, the creator of Leap Power.”
Beside him, Alvis and Meridian were likewise all delight.
“You’re too kind, Wizard Peyton.” Jie Ming nodded with a smile. “My main purpose this time is to test the live-combat effect of the new version of Leap Power. As for commanding the legion, that’s not my strength, so I’ll be relying on you for that.”
“Rest assured.”
Peyton said solemnly, “Since you’ve come to test the technology, we will naturally cooperate as best we can. Military command will remain our responsibility. You need only observe the test and, at the appropriate moments, put forward what needs to be verified.”
Alvis nodded in agreement. “We received Felix’s notice in advance, and we have the technical materials for the new version as well. Honestly, being able to watch with our own eyes as the new version of Leap Power takes effect in live combat is something we’re looking forward to too.”
Jie Ming smiled faintly.
He did not go on being modest, but took the opening to ask about the legion’s specifics.
Peyton at once called up a battle map:
“This legion is a temporarily organized joint legion, formed jointly by the Star Ring Federation and the Crimson Court. Until now we have been carrying out suppression missions on the edge of the main front. Our scale and combat power are both fairly ample, which makes us suited to taking on this test mission.”
Large numbers of markers quickly surfaced on the map, showing the legion’s personnel configuration, distribution of strength and present position.
“At present, the legion has more than five million wizards in all, every one of them sixth level or above. Beyond that, there are large numbers of auxiliary servant races and logistical forces responsible for maintaining the ship-plane, handling supplies and assisting the various combat units.”
Jie Ming’s eyes swept over the map, and he could not help clicking his tongue inwardly.
More than five million wizards of the sixth level or above.
Even if the overwhelming majority of them were only sixth level, that was already an utterly terrifying force.
After all, in normal times a single sixth-level wizard was enough to start a plane war.
And in this legion, they were merely its most basic component.
Jie Ming went on looking, and soon noticed one problem. “Only one ship-plane this time?”
Peyton nodded. “Yes. At present the legion has only this one ship-plane, which is enough for transport. When it comes to actual fighting, it still comes down to the wizards’ combat power.”
At that point, Peyton considered for a moment. “As for the new version of the Leap Power technology, it has already been issued. From what I know of those youngsters, it should take about a month to master it fully.”
“That’s a fast rate of mastery.” Jie Ming laughed.
Peyton: “They are elites, after all.”
Off to one side, Jack was likewise studying the map, except that rather than the legion’s scale, he was clearly more concerned with the state of the combat area.
“Teacher, what’s our target this time?”
Peyton took the cue and enlarged the map. “The region we’re heading for this time is defended by the Scaled Beast faction of the Behemoth Alliance.”
Markers for large numbers of plane clusters appeared on the map, with part of the region marked out as under enemy control.
Jie Ming quickly recalled the war materials he had received earlier.
In this war, the enemy the wizard civilization faced was not a single race but, rather like the Multiracial Alliance, a combined force made up of multiple races.
The wizards called it the “Behemoth Alliance.”
Unlike the Multiracial Alliance, most of whose races possessed advanced civilizations, most of the Behemoth Alliance’s members had never developed a mature advanced civilization.
The overwhelming majority of their life forms were powerful by nature, with astonishing physical qualities and strength, and could reach a quite high level of combat even without complex cultivation.
Of course, that did not mean they lacked wisdom.
Quite the contrary: many behemoths possessed considerable intelligence, and could communicate or devise tactics.
It was only that, compared with ordinary civilizations, they were generally not keen on developing complex technological systems, and seldom built highly organized civilizational structures.
For them, powerful bodies and innate abilities were usually enough to meet most of their needs.
And the Scaled Beast faction was one of the more common kinds within the Behemoth Alliance.
Strictly speaking, scaled beasts were not a race with a single unified bloodline, but a factional division within the Behemoth Alliance.
Any behemoth whose body was covered in scales, and whose chief characteristics were that sort of physical structure and way of fighting, could be classed among them.
As a result, the differences among scaled beasts were considerable as well.
“What is the Scaled Beast faction’s fighting style?” Jie Ming asked.
Peyton immediately called up the relevant materials. “On the whole they lean toward frontal suppression. Many scaled beasts have extremely strong defensive capabilities, and some of the more powerful individuals can also raise their offensive power by gathering strength for a short time. However, their abilities vary greatly, so they can’t be assessed entirely by one uniform standard.”
“That’s just as well.”
Jie Ming looked over the data, already beginning to think through a test plan.
The theoretical limit of the new version of Leap Power had been raised to tenfold, but to confirm its actual effect, it had to face a sufficiently complex battlefield environment.
A type like the scaled beasts, good at defense but not at offense, was exactly the best target for the test.
That was Felix for you. The arrangement really was excellent.
Seeing that Jie Ming had no further questions, Peyton went on, “If you are ready, sir, then we can first have the legion’s wizards complete their basic study, and then set out for the target region.”
Jie Ming looked up and glanced at the schedule.
“By what you said just now, doesn’t the whole army still need a month to master the new version of Leap Power?”
“Yes.” Peyton replied. “The estimate is that within a month, most of the wizards taking part can master the basic usage. But that doesn’t conflict with setting out now.”
He raised a hand and called up another battlefield report. “At present, the planes in the main combat zones between our two sides have essentially been wiped out. Most of the plane nodes that could once be used for teleportation, assembly and resupply no longer exist. We can’t reach the vicinity of the war zone directly by teleportation array the way we used to.”
Jie Ming frowned slightly, then understood.
Wizards did have the ability to build spatial teleportation nodes in the void, but with the planes themselves already destroyed, there was no counting on those spatial teleportation nodes to last long.
So at this stage, on the front lines, the wizard civilization’s legions could only rely on ship-planes to cross the endless chaotic void.
“So how long will it take us to fly there?”
Peyton nodded. “By the current route calculations, reaching the target region will take about a year. The legion can continue familiarizing itself with Leap Power during the voyage, and complete its battle deployment at the same time. By the time we reach the battlefield, basic training should be complete.”
Jie Ming nodded. “In that case, let’s set out as planned.”
“Understood.”
Peyton turned at once and issued orders to the legion’s command system:
“Notify all combat units: start the ship-plane. Proceed to the target region along the planned route. Continue basic training in Leap Power during the voyage, and all test groups are to keep communications open.”
As the order went out, the interior of the ship-plane burst into activity at once.
Large numbers of wizards began taking up their posts, and the personnel responsible for maintaining the spatial structure activated the corresponding arrays at the same time.
The plane’s internal energy circulation adjusted rapidly, and the previously still space began to produce regular fluctuations.
Jie Ming stood at the edge of the platform, watching the light screen before him gradually switch over to the navigation interface.
He could feel the immense ship-plane beneath his feet slowly altering its own spatial parameters, and through its arrays converting the chaotic void outside into a channel that could be traversed stably.
Though it was called “flight,” in essence it still relied on the power of an entire world to make one short-range teleportation after another through the endless chaotic void.
Peyton walked over to Jie Ming’s side.
“Over the coming year, we’ll complete all the basic training as far as we possibly can. Once we reach the battlefield, you can observe Leap Power’s performance in person.”
Jie Ming nodded. “Then I’ll leave it to you.”
A moment later, the core array inside the ship-plane fully activated.
Boom!
The enormous plane began to move forward.
The platform beneath their feet trembled slightly, then gradually steadied, meaning the whole ship-plane was now under way toward its target.
