I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 974: Feeling, Shock, Trial
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
Jie Ming activated the device and had Jack call upon elemental power the way he normally did.
Then he connected Leap Power into it.
At first Jack felt no obvious change.
He built his magic the familiar way, using mental energy to mobilize the elemental power of the outside world.
But as Leap Power ran, the surrounding energy began to take part in a way it never had before.
“What the hell?!”
Jack noticed the difference at once.
His spell structure had not changed, and the output strength of his mental energy had not changed either, yet beyond the elements he had originally mobilized, he could actually mobilize far more of the outside world’s elements!
Wizards did have schemes for mobilizing extra external power, but every one of them had a clear source.
If one used a wizard tower, for example, one could clearly feel the elemental supply coming from the tower’s array or its elemental pool.
But this feeling was completely different!
Jack could feel clearly that with this array’s support, every portion of his mental energy could mobilize a far greater quantity of elements!
In theory, even hiding an extra energy source among the free elements in the surroundings could not produce the same effect.
Because a wizard’s mobilization of the elements was by no means limited to free elemental energy. For an experienced wizard, the elements that made up matter, the elements that made up time and space, even the elements that made up rules such as gravity and heat could all be called upon as well!
However much help an extra energy source gave, it could not affect that kind of elemental mobilization.
Yet Jack could feel clearly that he could likewise affect that class of elements too. It was exactly as if the effect of one portion of his mental energy on the outside world’s elements had been magnified several times over!
“This is…”
Without thinking, Jack raised his output.
The next moment, the energy readings on the experiment platform shot upward.
“Careful. Don’t blow up my place.” Jie Ming’s voice came from beside him.
Jack’s face changed. He too had been startled by the power he now held, and he hurried to steady it as Jie Ming asked.
As Jie Ming adjusted the Leap Power array, the energy fluctuations that had appeared quickly subsided, finally settling into a stable output far beyond anything Jack had expected.
“Ho ho ho ho… Insane. So this is the power I hold!” For a moment Jack was almost intoxicated.
Only when Jie Ming told him to stop did Jack withdraw the spell.
He stood on the experiment platform, slow to come back to himself.
He looked down at his own hands, then turned to look at the monitoring devices beside him, as though he wanted to confirm from those ceaselessly flickering numbers that everything that had just happened was not a hallucination.
“Teacher, what was that just now?”
Only once the words were out did Jack realize that his voice had actually gone a little tight.
Jie Ming was sorting the test records, and hearing his disciple’s question, he answered offhandedly:
“I call it Leap Power. You’ve felt what it does. Very simply, it lets you use your own limited power to guide more of the outside world’s elements into battle. How much of an increase you get depends on your control, on how well you’ve mastered Leap Power, and on how abundant the elements are in the current environment… Come down for now.”
“Oh, oh… Leap Power. The name really fits.”
Jack walked down from the platform as told, but his expression was somewhat dazed, the sensation of a moment ago still echoing through his mind.
His mental energy had not suddenly grown stronger, the laws he had mastered had not increased, and the power stored in his body had not increased either.
But by means of this Leap Power, his power really had grown several times over, out of thin air and for no reason he could name!
Jack took a deep breath and tried hard to calm himself.
But the more he thought back on it, the harder it was to stay calm.
A wizard’s strength depended not only on the total quantity of his mental energy, but also on how efficiently his knowledge let him use that power.
Even so, the strength or weakness of one’s own power remained a limit there was no getting around.
Otherwise, the combat strength of plane wizards would not be so absurd.
And now, a new technology could add to a wizard’s mobilization of external power out of thin air, without changing his own power system at all!
For any wizard, that counted as an utterly astonishing breakthrough.
Once this thought surfaced, there was no pushing it back down.
“This technology… can it be spread yet?” Jack could not help asking.
“Not yet.” Jie Ming shook his head. “At present I can only say the core principle has been realized, and its adaptability has been preliminarily verified. Reaching the standard for widespread use will take more testing.”
“So it’s done, then.” Jack simply ignored the rest of what his Mentor had said.
Thump, thump, thump, thump…
Jack’s heart could not help beating faster.
If this technology could really be spread, then his own teacher… was very likely about to shoot straight to the top!
Jack might not be any expert in the field of research, but he certainly did not lack basic judgment.
The enormous response an achievement like this would produce was already foreseeable.
Once it was verified, the relevant research institutions were bound to take it seriously.
The Star Ring Federation would have ample reason to invest resources, pushing the technology to be perfected and spread.
All the more so now that the wizard civilization was facing a war that had yet to arrive, with every side looking for ways to raise its combat strength.
For his teacher to bring out a technology like this at a time like this, the significance went without saying.
The Level-One Cultivation Protocol!
The words surfaced in Jack’s mind almost immediately.
He knew his teacher had been working toward it all along.
And the Leap Power technology clearly had a chance of becoming that crucial bargaining chip.
At the thought, Jack very nearly laughed out loud.
They were rich!
He had only come over to hand in his homework, and instead he had witnessed with his own eyes his teacher completing a technology capable of changing the way the wizard civilization fought!
If his teacher went on to obtain the Level-One Cultivation Protocol, then resources, research clearances, chances to be guided by high-level wizards, even technical materials that had been very hard to get near in the past would all come flowing to his teacher.
And who was he?
Jie Ming’s personal disciple!
When one man attains the Dao, even his chickens and dogs rise to heaven.
When the time came, whatever leaked from his own teacher’s hands would be enough to make him rich!
The thought was somewhat vulgar, but the more Jack considered it, the happier he got.
He soon realized, though, that he was being rather obvious about it, so Jack hurriedly reined in his expression and did his best to put on a composed and serious look, as if everything just now had been nothing but sober reflection on the technology itself.
“Heh… heh heh heh…”
“Is this kid all right? He looks like a complete dope. Don’t tell me using Leap Power causes intellectual damage to the user?” Watching his disciple break into a silly grin every so often, Jie Ming checked the experimental data with some suspicion.
“No, nothing there. So was he always this dumb?”
“All right, stop standing around here in a daze.” Jie Ming saved the data he had recorded and decided to find his disciple something to do.
“You’ve been sitting at the fifth level for quite a while now. It’s time you started preparing to advance to the sixth level.”
Jack’s spirits lifted. “Teacher, you mean…”
“I’ve already arranged a trial for you.”
Jie Ming opened a light screen, and a map of an unfamiliar plane unfolded before the two of them.
“Go to this plane and conquer it alone. If you succeed, you should obtain the last part of the accumulation you need to advance to the sixth level. This plane will be your gift for advancing to the sixth level, and its ownership from then on will be your own responsibility as well.”
In fact, this trial was Jie Ming’s imitation of the trial Berta Vera Augusta had once received from the Augusta family before advancing to the sixth level.
As for making a plane an advancement gift, there was nothing strange about that either.
For the Jie Ming of today, the resources he controlled were simply too vast.
Since Jack had the talent of a combat wizard and genuinely needed a trial of sufficient weight, there was nothing to bringing out a suitable plane to cultivate his own disciple.
Provided, of course, that Jack could take it.
Jie Ming raised his head and glanced at the excited Jack, a meaningful smile appearing on his face:
“One more thing. I’ll teach you the Leap Power technology as well. If you still can’t complete the trial with Leap Power to help you, then don’t bother coming back.”
“Really?!”
Jack’s eyes lit up at the words, his earlier nervousness replaced by excitement. “I understand, Teacher. I will absolutely complete the trial!”
Jie Ming waved him off. “All right, that’s all. Go and get ready. Set your own departure time.”
“Yes!”
