Jie Ming has spent a thousand years attempting to perfect his "Leap Power" research, aiming to create a universal system allowing wizards to better utilize external energy. Despite numerous failures, his own cultivation has advanced significantly. However, he faces a major hurdle in adapting the system to different elemental laws and environments. Viola visits, delivering her research progress on a powerful artifact, which proves useful to Jie Ming's current work. She also expresses concern that his dedication to this complex research is hindering his personal strength progression as a looming war approaches, urging him to reconsider his approach.

Sometimes a technological breakthrough came just that abruptly.

Success came sooner than expected.

Less than fifty years after Viola left, Jie Ming had actually succeeded.

He sat before the experiment bench, watching the test data flicker across the light screen, and for a moment he could hardly believe it.

“Keep running.”

As Jie Ming’s command went out, the energy flow inside the array accelerated once more.

This time, the usual turbulence did not appear.

The elemental power that had been scattered through the surrounding environment gradually formed a relatively ordered energy flow under the array’s guidance, and entered the cycle structure according to the needs of each node.

At the same time, the energy fed in by the external energy-supply law stayed at a low level throughout, with no noticeable extra loss arising from the differing properties of the outside elements.

The whole process lasted several minutes.

When several rounds of the cycle had finished, every reading on the experiment platform settled into stability.

Jie Ming stared at the final result for a good while, then slowly let out a breath.

“It worked.”

His voice was not loud, but it let nerves that had been taut for a thousand years finally relax.

What had carried Jie Ming over the final obstacle was, in the end, that special experience he had gained in the Central World back then.

At the time, his True-False Void-Piercing Pupil had, for reasons unknown, briefly risen to an almost unbelievable level, letting him observe the rune structures inside the world directly and glimpse part of the essence of how laws operated.

Although that state had long since faded, the great mass of data he had observed then was still preserved in his recording system.

His observations of the four basic elemental laws in particular had let him understand, from a more fundamental level, the differences between the elements and the logic by which the world operated.

It was this accumulation that had let Jie Ming finally perfect the last structure of Leap Power.

Of course, Jie Ming knew very well that this did not mean the technology was fully mature.

The present success only proved that his technology could run stably under current conditions.

To extend it to different law systems, different wizard levels, and even complex and ever-changing combat environments would still require a great deal of verification.

But whatever the case, he had already taken the hardest step.

“Send some Black Giant priests, Tentacle Tree researchers and plant-people. Have them come here for testing.”

Jie Ming quickly reined in his emotions and issued the order to his servants through the Incense Fire Divine Dao.

Before long, several dozen researchers had arrived at the laboratory one after another.

Because the life structures of the three were utterly different, the power systems they used were not entirely the same either, which made them just right for preliminary testing.

“You’ve already been notified of the details.” Jie Ming pointed at the experiment platform in the center. “Next, I need to confirm whether this cycle structure can adapt to different life forms and energy characteristics. Release your power the way you normally would, then connect to the structure I provide. Throughout the process, don’t actively interfere with the cycle, and don’t deliberately cooperate with its operation either. Reproduce the way you usually use your power as closely as you can.”

“Understood.”

The Black Giant priest was the first to step onto the platform.

He folded his hands together, and the power within his body began to surge.

An energy carrying peculiar mental fluctuations gradually formed around his body, and the previously steady energy flow expanded outward with his will.

Jie Ming, for his part, activated the experiment platform.

Pale gold runes lit up one by one, and an energy channel was established along with them.

As the array’s effect took hold, the Black Giant priest’s eyes flew wide.

He could clearly feel that he was still using his own original power, yet a portion of outside elements had joined it under the cycle’s guidance.

“Go on and test your output ceiling,” Jie Ming reminded him.

The Black Giant priest immediately raised his power output.

The readings on the experiment platform changed accordingly, but the cycle structure remained stable, automatically adjusting the paths along which the energy flowed.

Only when the test reached the predetermined ceiling did Jie Ming have him stop.

When the Black Giant priest stepped down from the platform, his face still carried astonishment he could not hide. “This is truly… My Lord, this is absolutely an epoch-making technology!”

Seeing the Black Giant priest so astonished, the others beside him grew curious too, and one after another they ran the test under Jie Ming’s direction.

Soon, every member of the servant races who had been called to the laboratory had finished testing, and every face showed astonishment to some degree.

Jie Ming looked at the data on the experiment platform, and a surge of excitement he could hardly suppress welled up in his chest.

It had succeeded!

More than a thousand years of research and countless failures had finally bought this moment!

But he quickly composed himself.

The experience of earlier failed tests had made him realize that for this technology to succeed completely, other wizards had to be able to use it normally in different environments as well.

His research team were all his affiliated races, and their law systems differed from the mainstream system of the wizard civilization.

He needed genuine wizard samples. He needed wizards from different schools, with different law specializations, to test the technology’s universality…

Just then, a communication alert came from outside the laboratory. “Teacher, I’m here. The study assignments you set me earlier are all complete. I’ve brought the homework and the related experiment records with me.”

Hearing that voice, Jie Ming could not help raising an eyebrow.

It was Jack.

Counting the time, this disciple had indeed finished the study assignments he had arranged for him.

But…

“Isn’t this perfect timing?”

Jie Ming’s expression turned a little odd; he could not tell whether this disciple of his was lucky or unlucky. “Come in.”

Jack walked into the laboratory.

After so many years of research, study and battle, Jack had by now formally stepped into the level of a fifth-level wizard.

Not only had his strength improved enormously, he also carried a composure far beyond what he had had before.

He handed the sorted materials to Jie Ming and briefly reported on his progress in study over these years.

But as he went on, Jack’s voice grew somewhat quieter.

Because he could clearly sense that the way his own teacher was looking at him seemed somehow off.

That look… it was exactly the look one gave a lab rat!

Gulp!

Unable to help swallowing, Jack gave Jie Ming a strained smile:

“Teacher, have you been running some experiment lately?”

“Oh, so you’ve already guessed. Very good. You’ve come at just the right time.”

Jie Ming accepted the materials and leafed through them casually.

Having confirmed that Jack really had completed his assignments, he pointed straight at the experiment platform, his face breaking into a “kindly” smile. “Get on.”

Jack froze for a moment, then could not help taking a step back, and began to regret why he had chosen this of all times to come and hand in his homework.

Seeing this, Jie Ming rolled his eyes. “What are you afraid of? With me here, you can’t possibly die, can you?”

“No… compared to your experiments, death isn’t scary at all, okay?”

Despite saying so, Jack still obediently walked up onto the platform.
