I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 967: Return

“Careful!”
Just as Jie Ming was immersed in thought, Augusta’s voice suddenly burst out beside him.
“Enemies are coming!”
Jie Ming came back to himself at once.
The wizards around them stopped watching the battlefield at the same moment and looked around in every direction.
Once they saw the situation clearly, every face changed.
The anomaly outside the battlefield had not weakened as the fight went on.
Quite the opposite: as the battle progressed, the ninth-level creature’s devouring was growing stronger and stronger.
By this point in the fight, the Central World had vanished completely. The elements that had made it up had either been devoured by this ninth-level creature or been blasted away by the aftershocks of the battle.
So now the group was exposed once more in the endless chaotic void.
Yet after devouring the entire Central World, the ninth-level creature’s devouring ability showed no sign of weakening at all. If anything, it had grown even more terrifying because the creature had fallen into a disadvantage in the fight.
As a result, the chaotic elements in the endless chaotic void were pouring toward the battlefield in an unbroken stream, some because the ninth-level creature was devouring them, but far more because the three plane wizards were mobilizing them.
Jie Ming turned his head and looked into the distance.
Out in the endless void, vast numbers of plane clusters were moving frantically.
One complete plane after another was being hauled along by an immense force, torn from its original position and sent flying toward where they stood.
The planes varied in size, but before the devouring force driven by that enormous elemental vortex, they were like leaves caught in a whirlpool, with no room at all to struggle, able only to draw closer and closer.
“This is just absurd…” someone blurted.
But what had made Augusta call out the warning was not the planes being dragged over.
It was the dense mass of figures charging in at the very front of the plane clusters.
They were creatures of every conceivable shape, so many that one could not see the end of them at a glance.
The only thing they had in common was… their eyes were all red.
Those eyes were full of madness and fury, and they were charging recklessly toward the spot where the group stood.
Viola took one look, and her expression immediately turned grave.
“These must all be the native creatures from those planes.”
Her voice was low. “Could they all have been bewitched?”
“No.” But Kastilla shook her head, rejecting the idea.
Her gaze was fixed on the life forms charging toward them. As a wizard who specialized in the life law, she could sense what was off about these creatures.
“Something feels wrong. There really is a mental abnormality in them, but it isn’t the madness of something being controlled.”
As the creatures drew closer, Kastilla’s expression grew graver and graver.
“They’re charging over of their own accord. It’s as if they… want to return.”
“Return?” The wizards around them fell silent in an instant.
At those words Jie Ming’s expression changed. His True-False Void-Piercing Pupil ran at full power as he examined these creatures’ condition closely.
He quickly stripped away the chaotic jumble of runes on the outside of their bodies and focused his attention on all of their cores.
At the core of every life form, vast numbers of runes were leaping about frantically.
Those runes were not entirely identical.
After all, different races, different forms of life, even different levels: the rune structures inside their bodies all differed noticeably.
But as he kept watching, Jie Ming’s mind shook violently.
The runes leaping and recombining ceaselessly inside those life forms were changing in the same direction, in a way that was hard to understand.
Their races were different, their bodies were different, their forms of life were different, yet the rune structure at their very cores was drawing closer and closer together.
As time passed, those runes were actually beginning to converge!
And that rune structure was one he had seen just moments ago, on that ninth-level creature!
“How is that possible?!” Jie Ming stared hard at those core runes, and an unbelievable guess formed in his mind.
His face went ugly at once, because he now understood what Kastilla had really meant by “return.”
Jie Ming realized immediately that he had grossly underestimated the range of a ninth-level existence’s influence!
It was not only the Central World. The entire world cluster, made up of that whole cluster of planes around it, had also been born because this ninth-level creature slept here.
The planes in those plane clusters had not necessarily been created by it deliberately. Far more likely, they had gathered naturally as the elemental currents drew closer while it devoured the elements of the endless chaotic void.
But the creatures born in those planes had all, without exception, been affected by the ninth-level creature’s power.
Even the creatures that had originally existed in those planes had gradually been remolded, under the ninth-level creature’s power, into part of its own existence.
In other words, every living thing in this world cluster, from the Holy Spirit race to the ostrich creatures, from plants to birds and beasts, even the human civilization they had seen, was a part of the ninth-level creature “itself”!
That also explained why the Central World counted as no more than a legend among the civilizations of these world clusters, yet kept drawing those civilizations to research it endlessly and try to enter it.
Because it was their subconscious urge to return to the “main body.”
They were all parts of the ninth-level creature, and returning to the main body was an instinct carved into their deepest selves.
At that thought, though, Jie Ming’s eyes lit up. “Then that means…”
Looked at from another angle, this also meant that every one of the creatures before them carried some portion of a link to a ninth-level existence.
That link might be extremely faint, but to a wizard it was still research material of an almost absurd value!
And it was not only Jie Ming. The other wizards quickly worked it out as well, and when they looked again at the horde of creatures charging toward them, their expressions all turned a little strange.
The creatures that had come pouring out of the various plane clusters soon collided with the wizards.
Once they had actually crossed blades, the group found instead that this seemingly overwhelming tide of creatures was nowhere near as hard to deal with as it looked.
Their numbers were indeed staggering, but their strength was wildly uneven.
The vast majority of them had not even reached the seventh level, and a great many were nothing more than low-level creatures acting on pure instinct.
Against ordinary sixth- or seventh-level creatures they might have caused some trouble by numbers alone, but what stood on this battlefield was a group of the high-level powers of wizard civilization.
What was more, many of the creatures could not even reach the wizards.
Boom!
The power of the ninth-level creature and the three plane wizards collided once again, and a terrifying shockwave swept outward.
This was aftershock damage that even Jie Ming and the others could not withstand head-on, and they could only rely on Mentor Clark’s protection.
To say nothing of these hordes of creatures, whose power and level alike fell far short of theirs.
Whole swaths of creatures did not even have time to scream before their bodies shattered outright in the aftershock.
The life forms a little farther away managed to hold on, barely, but they too were shaken into bloody pulp and were soon ground away by the elemental torrents of the surrounding void.
As for the lucky ones that survived by using their companions’ corpses as shields, they could only face the assembled wizards missing arms and legs.
For a moment, the wizards were almost at a loss for words.
