Jie Ming and the others entered a void filled with immense pressure and a disorienting lack of direction. A distant white light exerted an irresistible mental pull, causing some wizards to lose control and wander towards it. While some resisted, others were overwhelmed and had to be sent back. Jie Ming realized this phenomenon might be a trap, especially when observing the varying degrees of resistance among the group. They continued their advance towards the light, which grew into a massive wall, revealing intricate patterns on its surface.

Jie Ming narrowed his eyes, staring at that layer of plane barrier glowing with white light.

He soon made it out: those fine black traces were actually a mass of tiny runes.

Countless impossibly tiny runes were whirling across the barrier’s surface, each one moving according to a specific pattern and influencing the runes around it.

The whole plane barrier was like a precision machine built from countless gears. Every rune was a gear, and their combined turning was what kept the barrier in existence.

Jie Ming instinctively looked over at the others, and then froze.

For runes had appeared on them as well.

Every rune was pulsing at a specific frequency, resonating with their cores.

As for that core, it was naturally the Ring of Truth.

“This… what’s going on?!”

Jie Ming was somewhat alarmed, but he soon discovered that this seemed to be happening only to him.

He could say so because, through these runes, Jie Ming could clearly read the emotions given off by every wizard.

And the wizards around him were giving off nothing like surprise. The vast majority of what they gave off was something along the lines of wariness, caution or scrutiny.

“No, wait. Why can I understand what these runes mean?”

Jie Ming frowned. “And this feeling… it’s so familiar.”

Following that sense of familiarity, Jie Ming instinctively lowered his head to look at himself as well.

With the help of these runes, Jie Ming quickly found the cause: the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil.

For some unknown reason, after coming close to this plane barrier, the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil had actually risen to its highest level for a short while, and that was why such a special kind of sight had appeared.

The so-called runes he was seeing now were in fact the underlying structure by which things operated.

“This is truly… astonishing!”

Thinking of how the Mysterious Astral Mortal Dust Barrier’s protective reserve had suddenly been drained dry earlier, Jie Ming’s eyes flickered as a certain possibility occurred to him.

Still, once he had worked out the change taking place in himself, he quickly and excitedly turned his sights elsewhere, trying to gather more data.

There was no knowing when this state of his would end, so naturally he had to gather as much information as he could.

Jie Ming turned his gaze to Mentor Clark once more. Of everyone present, the runes on Mentor Clark ought to be the most conspicuous.

Dense masses of runes were gathered within the outline of Clark’s body. Even though they had been shrunk to the extreme, they still made him look like a human figure made of black lines.

Jie Ming made a quick comparison and found that Clark had even more runes than the three plane wizards, and that their patterns of operation were extremely complex as well.

On the other side, the runes on Wizard Fate were completely different from everyone else’s.

The runes on the other wizards were free-floating. Although they could influence one another, each rune was separate.

But Wizard Fate’s runes were different: the runes on him were linked together and fixed in place.

Every rune, according to its own particular structure, was fitted to the others with extreme precision, like mortise and tenon.

Each locked into the next, seamless, together forming a complete structure that, though interconnected, was still constantly in motion.

Jie Ming rubbed his chin, thinking.

Could it be… that this was the truth behind Law Fixation?

Just as Jie Ming was looking all around, on the other side, Wizard Fate began to act as well.

He tapped lightly at the plane barrier in front of him.

In Jie Ming’s rune vision, one of Wizard Fate’s runes was briefly released from the interlocking structure and touched a rune on the surface of the plane barrier.

The instant the two runes made contact, an extremely faint interference arose. Wizard Fate’s rune then retracted, while the rune on the barrier was knocked slightly askew by the contact.

The interference pushed its path of operation off its original track, and as it moved it collided with another rune beside it.

The rune it struck was knocked off course in turn and collided with the rune next to it.

In an extremely short time the process spread out exponentially, like a cascade of falling dominoes.

Whole clusters of runes jammed together in the chain reaction, and on the barrier’s surface, which had been running smoothly, a small blank area appeared that could no longer be maintained.

In everyone else’s eyes, Wizard Fate had simply tapped the barrier lightly, and that layer of white-glowing barrier had opened a rift of its own accord.

“So that’s how it is!”

Seeing the internal logic of its operation clearly, Jie Ming could not help sucking in a breath.

The essence of a plane barrier was the operation of an elemental rune network.

As long as one found the key node and applied an extremely tiny interference, one could use the interactions between runes to set off a chain reaction and tear an entrance open in the barrier.

This technique required an extremely deep understanding of how a plane barrier operated, or else… extremely good “luck”.

But Jie Ming had also noticed a problem.

These runes did more than maintain the plane barrier’s existence; they were also maintaining the operation of all kinds of phenomena inside the plane.

That touch just now had looked light and effortless, but the chain reaction had already reached the plane’s interior.

The instant the barrier split, the sky deep within the plane abruptly changed color.

Clouds that had been stable churned into whirlpools within a few breaths, lightning struck madly down from within them, rivers on the ground changed course, and volcanoes erupted.

Because of a local disturbance in its rune network, the entire plane had been struck by a sudden natural disaster.

With that, the commotion they had caused was far too big.

A figure came flying swiftly from the depths of the plane, broke through the clouds and the lightning, and hovered outside the rift.

It was a multi-armed humanoid creature of enormous size, fully several hundred meters tall, with a dozen-odd arms growing from its body, each covered in scales of a different color.

Its aura was not strong, somewhere around the fifth level.

The moment it appeared, the creature released its mental energy and demanded, “Who are you?! What do you want?!”

Wizard Fate showed no intention whatsoever of answering.

He raised his hand and grabbed toward the multi-armed creature, closing his five fingers, and an invisible force bound its entire body.

The multi-armed creature struggled desperately, its dozen-odd arms flailing madly, but before Wizard Fate all its attacks were like raindrops falling into the sea.

Wizard Fate pulled it in front of him, swept it once quickly with his mental energy, then tossed it toward the group with some distaste.

“Nothing special,” he said. “A very ordinary creature. Not worth studying.”

The multi-armed creature was flung down in front of everyone, bound into a ball by the invisible force, its dozen-odd arms hanging limp.

The runes were arranged extremely crudely, with almost no optimization or interlocking at all; they had been piled up purely by the creature’s instincts.

Just as Wizard Fate had said, there was no technical route on it worth learning, nor any unique system of knowledge. It was completely unworthy of study.
